Reporter well, anne, weve really seen some impressive winds in the last 24 hours. At times in some areas topping 65 Miles Per Hour. In fact, we found this one house in the Oakland Hills, they have got a lot of cleaning up to do. Take a look at this. A 90foot pine fell across not one, but two yards, crashing onto this home, piercing the roof with its massive branches. Now, the wind was Strong Enough here last night to not just knock over this thrertspound tree, but rip it 30,000 pound tree, but ripping its roots and leaving a crater behind. This was hit hard too. Take a look. Customers at this starbucks in alamo got a high jolt when wind knocked this tree onto some park cars. Pretty scary there. Good news in both of those situations no one was hurt, but, of course, we have another storm on the way and only a little bit of time to get some cleaning up done before that second bout of rain comes through. Water gushed out of a drain on mill creek road in healsburg yesterday. City crews lined the streets with sandbags to prevent the road from completely flooding. Rain water rushed into some vineyards in Sonoma County last night. Wine makers are worry that the rain will flood storage and tasting rooms like we saw during the december storms. And with the rain came the slick roadways, and lots of accidents like this one in san jose yesterday. A pickup truck colliding with another car and flipped over on a wet road. This is at camden avenue. Four people were hurt, but were told those injuries are not serious. Taking a live look right now at sfo. The airport is reporting delays averaging about 45 minutes right now because of the weather and low cloud coverage. Yesterday was a much different story. Around 200 flights were canceled and delays were running up to three hours long. A lot of you have been sharing your storm photosment we have an instagram picture from van nest street in San Francisco posted by elle. A tree came down taking out a high volt an power line tying up muni. Also she saw more damage last night than from the december storm. And scenes like this were played out all over the bay area, the wind and the rain toppling trees, knocking down power lines and leaving thousands without electricity. Pg e crews have been working around the clock to get power restored. Right now 4,500 customers in the north bay still dont have electricity. About 1,200 in San Francisco and the peninsula are in the dark and in the east bay it is down to 170. In the south bay 380. The port of oakland along with the other 28 west coast ports are closed this weekend. The Pacific Maritime association shut them down at midnight after citing it doesnt need to hire dock workers today or tomorrow. That decision is part of a long running contract dispute. It Means Nothing will get loaded or unloaded at any of those ports. I dont know what these guys are drinking, i dont know what theyre smoking there in the big Corporate Office building. That shutdown could become permanentment on monday if port operators make good on their threats to lock out workers. Taking a look at news around the world this morning, isis leaders say an American Woman was killed in a jordanian airstrike in syria. Isis released pictures of a ruined building where it says Kayla Mueller was kill. The 26yearold is from arizona. She was taken hostage in 2013 by isis while doing aid work in syria. Right now youre hearing the rain on the the rooftops near santa cruz and the coastal areas of highway 1, also watsonville and lifting up towards gilroy. Otherwise a possibility of a lingering shower today. And, boy, it feels so balmy out the door into the 50s and 60s, and it does look like we still have that partly to mostly cloudy sky. The possibility of a lingering shower exists today with a lot of the unsettled air mass. Rain will return in earnest tomorrow morning and then the next week ahead were talking about a dry wh pattern after a ridge of High Pressure firmly builds into the bay area. Good news here, the winds are now beginning to dial back after a very windy friday and it was pretty breezy overnight. Southerly winds at 11 Miles Per Hour in San Francisco, very light, under five in san jose and upstream its calm in navado, but those winds will increase out of the south 10 to 20 later today, very impressive. Now, this area of low pressure, this is wave number one, it is out of here. Then behind it, again, that chance of rain. But this is the wave that were looking at. But, first you should know what father aiden is doing with the money. Because his parishioners are mostly black, he is is creating what he calls an afrocentric Catholic Church. There are paintings and statues of a black jesus and next to the stained glass, Martin Luther king, jr. Is depictured with a saints halo. Even statues of mary and joseph have been repainted to better reflect the congregation. But the money to help do this came with an odd catch. Father aiden was required to complete a rigorous fourweek boxing boot camp at a gym in San Franciscos gritty tenderloin district. I thought to myself, hum, this is not on the Job Description of pastor or catholic priest. Reporter but the 52year old priest is gamely battling on, earning the money donated by this man, eduardo roy is a trial lawyer who herd about a nun at st. Columbus who gives away a dollar a day to the needy. And he began thinking about the homeless he sees on the street everyday. It just bothered me that i walk past a man and i could have given him much more than a dollar, but a dollar would have probably been what he needed. No. Reporter we talked to a group of students at freemont and got a tour from william varner, a student rising above and an alum here. This is the College Center. Used to be the music room which we dont have no more. Reporter the College Center has only been open for three years, run by alum jalisa collins. When she went to school here, there was none. Reporter why did it take so long to get a College Center here . Because the school did not have money. Bring it back to me. Reporter only now there is only one college counselor. The kids see the shortages everywhere. You dont have labs . We dont have the supplies for labs. We lack in classes because we dont have french, we only have spanish. Reporter they say they dont have enough paper or markers. Teacher and alum Michelle Gonzalez buys a lot of her own supplies. The sharpeners, the pens, i bought those hole punchers, pretty much everything in here. Reporter the uneven Playing Field is evident right on the football field which is too short for regulation games. How can they feel enthusiastic about really trying to do a sport and its, like, nothing to work with. So i really feel bad that this is, like, we really dont have much. Reporter no baseball field, no track. So the kids have to run laps on the streets. The car came this way and they started shooting and driving. They counted up over 700 people on some occasions. Theyre doing this ancient eastern practice called yoga in a crist yn church and as a Christian Church and as a pagan labyrinth. Im not christian, but its very healing, you know, very spiritual and, you know, it has that theres that quality about it, you know. Reporter the practice of yoga might predate christianity by as many as 2,000 years, but once a week for about one hour, the two spiritual paths merge together. So you could say that yoga and the Episcopal Church are simply two profound expressions of this impulse that seems to be born into us. Its amazing. This is the very impressive area of low pressure that did dump up to nine inches of rain yesterday alone in some of the mountainous areas of the north bay. Now, behind it youll see right there, that is a small impulse that promises at least a chance of a lingering shower right here in the bay area. Meanwhile todays high temperatures well above average, 67 degrees in redwood city, 68 in san jose when we should be at 61 degrees. In addition to electronic hoaxes where some may unknowingly turn over personal information to criminals, to fake calls from fraudsters who try to get you to pay money you dont owe, the irs is reminding us that some of of the most common scams are those which are the most personal, unscreupuallows tax practitioners who promise outlandish refunds. To protect yourself the agency suggests you only work with someone who has an irs preparer tax identification number. That certifies that the person is authorized to prepare federal tax returns. Dont use someone who bases his or her fee on the size of your refund. Guard against falling prey to people who encouraging you to claim deductions or credits to which you are not entitled, and avoid preparers who dont ask to see your records and receipts. Remember, never sign a blank or incomplete return and always have your refund sent directly to you or your bank account, not to a tax preparers bank account. The irs cautions that if you are a party to schemes that attempt to hide income or use false documentation, you could be likely for financial penalties or even face criminal prosecution. We take senior dogs, dogs over 7 that end up in the shelter, usually due to things like somebody passing away or can no longer care for their dog, and we its okay. A little shy. Scott smith started his own business to give him more flexibility. Elizabeth cook takes a look at the result and how its changed the lives of countless creatures. Reporter its a challenge scott smith looks forward to everyday. It actually kind of raises your anxiety a little bit. Reporter an injured animal has just been brought into lindsey wildlife rehab hospital in walnut creek. You dont know what the injury or the illness or the condition of the animal is, so youre a little bit tense while youre getting all the information to find out, you know, how well hes doing or how well he can be doing. Reporter scott has been volunteering with the Lindsey Wildlife Museum for three years, spending 15 to 20 hours a week, helping to rehabilitate injured wildlife, from small mammals and reptiles to various birds like this redtailed hawk. I do a variety of things there all the way from helping medicate and feed the animals, prepare their special diets. Each one of them has things they can have and cant have and things they like and dont like. From cleaning kainls, to helping us treating injured animals to cleaning bats teeth, it is absolutely astonishing. Reporter scotts appreciation for california wildlife iranically began in the midwest. Ive always been really excited since i moved out here 30 years ago just to see wildlife, to see coyotes and skunks and possums and everything, even in my back yard. Reporter a tech job brought scott to the bay area. He worked at pac bell, a couple of startups and then intel. He left the corporate world behind to follow his passion. Theres no doubt that the day you release an animal youve taken care of is the most rewarding. Reporter scott spends most of his time here at the rehab hospital. Check out this home that we found in the Oakland Hills and what this tree did to it. It was a 90foot pine. It fell right across not one but two yards there, crashing onto this home, its branches going right through the roof.
