Check out this mess in Sonoma County after rain flooded highway 101 there. You can see some drivers battled their way through all that deep water. A large oak tree shook free, came crashing on the saint helena road. The trees roots left a huge hole in the street there plus a creek running along the pavement will make the effects even tougher. And up in the mountains it is nearly whiteout. Eastbound 80 is completely shut down, thanks to all the heavy snowfall overnight. We are going to show you much more in the sierra coming up in a few minutes. Closer to home, getting to work can be tough for folks in san mateo. Five trees crashed down onto highway 92 and crews still trying to clear them. Kpix5s jackie is live in San Mateo County near the stretch of highway off limits now. Reporter thats right. We are where highway 95 and 92 meet in San Mateo County. This is as close to the scene we can get right now. This is what happens when we get a lot of rain on the ground. The ground gets so saturated, trees come crashing down and in this case cause traffic issues. Right now a severe Traffic Alert for san mateo valley, highway 92 between highway 35 and 280, i should say so as we can see this is the tree thats blocking all the lanes of traffic so drivers are being asked to seek an alternate route. Its causing quite a mess out here but its one of many downed trees as you were saying in San Mateo County so crews have been out here for at least a couple of hours now trying to clear this scene. Heres a live look at the San Francisco airport. Delays are expected as heavy rain and strong winds continue to hit the area. Officials say the wet conditions caused 30 to 90 minute delays in arrival times last night. And pse g crews are busy all over the bay as rain and winds keep knocking down powerlines. We checked in with pg e and they tell us at least 504 customers are without power right now across the bay area. Right now eastbound i80 in the sierra is closed to all traffic. The chp says heavy snow is making driving too dangerous. Overnight there were several spinouts and weatherrelated crashes on i80. It got so bad, chp opened a stopping center so they could make sure all drivers had snow tires or chains. One family returning from a tahoe vacation says it was a scary drive. Reporter years teetering on the edge, this week 320 esplanade will meet its fate. Tuesday the demolition begins on this 20 unit Apartment Building. Pacifica city officials red tagged in the last el nino in 2010. The building next door is yellow tagged after this years storms ate away at the cliffs below. Residents forced to move, the city hasnt yet decided whether it will stay or be torn down. And last month this nearby apartment got demoed after winter rains brought the building dangerously close to falling into the pacific. Its not safe anymore and if we wait and there is some catastrophic storm or an earthquake or some other event, that buildings could end up on the beach below and if so the cost to clean it up would be a lot higher. Reporter the demo cost is about 200,000. The city hopes to get reimbursed in the future through the Property Owners bankruptcy proceedings, but for now the goal is tearing down this building in the next five days. My biggest concern is obviously safety, safety of everybody. Reporter once this Apartment Building is demolished, the city says its problems arent over yet. There are also they are also concerned about this street. Frankly, whats on our mind next is protecting the street. Esplanade avenue will be the next asset thats at risk. The wild mammal swam to the monterey bay aquariums tide pool and simply relaxed and soon she had a healthy pup to call her own. They stayed in the tide pool to take shelter from strong storms. Sonoma county has a plan in the works to widen a highway notorious for traffic gridlock. Highway 37 between highway 121 and marry island in vallejo have been two lanes blacktop since the 1930s and it doesnt take much to cause backups as you might imagine but the highway is surrounded by sensitive wetlands, home to thousands of birds and a Virginia Company has a proposed building a replacement for 37 that will protect the wildlife. Its a very sensitive wet land area and they have proposed a construction method that really doesnt interfere with the wetlands and its an elevated viaduct, which allows all the wetlands, the water underneath to flow freely. Climate change is another motivating factor. The water could rise as much as a foot over the next few decades but so far no one has found the estimated 2 billion to help fund that project. Gas prices are on an upward trend nationally over the past week, the average price per began has jumped by 7 cents. The main reason is growing demand combined with higher prices for crude oil. Over the weekend we have seen over 8 inches of rain now in throughout the loma prieta area and the Santa Clara County area and also seen over 7 inches of rain in monterey bay, so a whole lot of ponding on the roadways. Over 6 inches accumulated in
