All good to go. There are 75 cases of the measles in six states most here in california. Those infected in california range in age from 7 months to 70 years old. Most had not been vaccinated for the measles. 17 of those cases are not connected to disneyland. New this morning a warning to bay area children and parents about the measles. Schools in Santa Clara County are sending out letters today to let parents know about the measles and tell them what precautions to take. Two cases of measles have been diagnosed at a Kaiser Hospital in oakland this month. Kpix 5s Christin Ayers reports, more than 30 children are in isolation because of the outbreak. Reporter Jennifer Simon briefly stepped outside with her 6monthold daughter live yeah. For three weeks, live yeah has been unable to leave the house or be around other children. Gist scary. Reporter they got the sniffles january 2 and went to kaiser in oakland where they were told they had colds. Then two days later the phone rang. They said your daughter may have been exposed to measles. Reporter a child with measles had visited that very Kaiser Office within a few hours of jennifer and olivia. That child was not vaccinated. In a statement, kaiser said we worked closely with the Alameda CountyPublic Health department and California Department of Public Health to trace and contact all persons potentially exposed to these cases. Were pleased that no additional cases were identified during the monitoring period. Little livia has shown no signs of the illness with a week left of quarantine. Now they want to spread the word about the importance of vaccine. People say its a personal choice not to vaccinate but its personal choice with a lot of, um, possibly catastrophic consequences for other people we have been lucky she hasnt gotten measles. With possibly three lanes blocked, i think we probably will at least in a little bit if they dont clear it shortly. Otherwise, were very quiet. The coast guard has issued a warning because big waves are expected through the weekend in the coastal waters off california. The National Weather service says the waves could reach 15 feet or higher off the coast between Monterey County and sonoma county. The waves are expected to be fastmoving and Strong Enough to suddenly sweep people from rocks and coastal structures. And developing news now. Al sharptons civil Rights Groups wants new jersey officials to investigated a policeinvolved shooting death last month in bridgeton. Its getting attention now because police just released dashboard camera video this week. Police say a gun was found in a car during a traffic stop and a passenger initially did not comply with orders to show his hands. Video appears to show the man getting shot while leaving the car with his hands partially up. Meanwhile, in oakland, the subject of antipolice protests came up at a bart meeting last night and things got a little tense. [ yelling ] all right. Well the people chanting want bart to dismiss charges against 14 people who were arrested during a november protest against police force. The Transit Agency wants the 14 people to pay 70,000 in restitution. Its because the protest shut down the west oakland bart station disrupting service for hours on the line. Barts general manager says the could pay back the money by doing Community Service instead, but the final decision is in the hands of the Alameda CountyDistrict Attorney now. Happening today, in oakland abortion rights advocates plan a noontime march at frank ogawa plaza. It follows a prolife demonstration in washington, d. C. Yesterday. It marks 42 years since the roe v. Wade decision which legalized abortion in the u. S. Meanwhile, House Republicans passed a bill that would permanently bar federal funds for abortion coverage. A federal report sharply criticized chevron regard a refinery require in richmond in 2012. The fire started in a corroded pipe that should have been inspected and upgraded. The report says a flawed Safety Culture at chevron is to blame for the rupture. The report also suggests those at the scene did not understand how dangerous that situation actually was. The fire put 19 workers in danger and the resulting fumes sent more than 15,000 people to local hospitals for medical attention.
