Bay bridge is expected in the next 48 hours. Caltrans turned on the lights last night giving us a peek at what the eastern span of the bay bridge will really look like. More in a minute but first liza battalones is following a motorcycle accident on 580. Reporter the chp initially reported this accident in the eastbound direction. We have new information. This is happened in the westbound lanes of 580 approaching vasco road and you can see right here traffic very slow now along westbound 580. As we go to the map ill show you where this accident happened. About 20 minutes ago the chp got reports of a downed motorcycle blocking two left hand lanes. Major injuries are reported. You can see all the red on the sensors. Traffic jammed solid as a result from beyond the 205 interchange. So alternates, take the ace train if that works for you. They are reporting no delays on the system this morning. In san jose, a dump truck accident a busy commute out there with this new accident north 101 approaching mckee in san jose. Thats blocking the lefthand lane so we have a couple of hot spots this morning. The Altamont Pass and 580 commute and 101 in san jose. Thats traffic. Heres brian with a look at the forecast. Startingwith low clouds around the bay and near the shoreline but when the sun comes up much of the bay area will be under clear skies and a nice day in the offing. We had a warm day yesterday. Numbers came up as much as 12 degrees from mondays readings. Stay on the warmer side today. San francisco averages 68. Well just hit 69. But in livermore usually in the upper 80s well be at 96 today. Santa rosa smoking hot yesterday at 91 hits the same today. Thats the 8 degrees above average. So the numbers will remain warm the next couple of days. Then some changes coming in by the weekend. Cargo plane are missing. The plane crashed near the airport in birmingham just before dawn and this is new video just in showing the wreckage. The ntsb is now investigating. The plane went down about a quarter of a mile away from a residential area. Some new progress in the opening of the new span of the bay bridge. Some good news. And there she is here behind me. You can see the new span of the bay bridge with the old span right behind it. This bridge was supposed to open on december 10 but now could open on Labor Day Weekend. Well find out tomorrow. Hundreds of custom l. E. D. S shining on the new eastern span. Tomorrow we will know if it is going to open on labor day. The toll bridge Oversite Committee will make that call. The federal government approved a fix for the broken bolts. That is good news. This is a seismic safety project. We want to get people on the new safer bridge quickly and safely. Reporter 6. 4 billion span was built with earthquake safety in mind a project born after the 1989 loma prieta earthquake damaged the old span. Right now, were told that crews are working on the new span as if it will open on Labor Day Weekend. Live on treasure island, anne makovec, kpix 5. So whenever the new span actually opens dont hold your breath for a big celebration. The big bridge walk for thousands of people was originally envisioned for the grand opening but some new pressure obviously to get cars just driving on the bridge puts that partying now on the back burner. It would take months to plan and organize that type of event and certainly is not the priority right now. Its back to school today at a local Community College where the future of the school is in doubt. Kpix 5s cate caugiran joins us live from city college of San Francisco which may actually end up shutting down. Reporter we are learning this morning that the commission that voted to take away the accreditation for city college of San Francisco is now getting a taste of their own medicine. The accrediting commission for the colleges was that agency the department of education now saying that commission violated federal regulations during its investigation of city college. Now, they face the same fate as the college. The Department Says fix operations or be shut down. Last year the commission issued its worst sanction to city College Giving them 8 months to improve in 14 different areas. Last month, the Commission Voted to revoke the schools accreditation after citing it failed to show significant improvement. Now the school has until next year to make major changes. But educators are hopingful. The leaders in this college seem to be engaging more and more every day in Solutions Rather than placing blame and looking backward at problems. Reporter now, does this ruling have an effect on city colleges future . Thats unclear at this point. Losing accreditation may mean losing funding which means shutting down city college. But right now Union Leaders are saying because of the department of educations ruling they have a right to appeal which does give hope for the thousands of people that will be returning back to school today. Following some latest developments out of egypt where government raids on two protest camps turn deadly today. Egyptian Security Forces followed through with their threat to clear out camps in cairo set up in support of ousted president mohamed morsi. People fled the area. Armored cars and bulldozers cleared it out. Tear gas was sent into the crowd. Many protestors had gas masks. Gunfire was heard at the site. The government says three Security Force members and nine protestors were killed but the Muslim Brotherhood claims more than 500 protestors were killed. The military removed morsi from office last month. The navy in india says an explosion and fire killed sailors on a submarine. Not clear how many died. There were 18 on board. The explosion sent the huge fireball into the air. This comes just three years after a fatal explosion on that very same submarine which was brought back into service just six months ago. New this morning, a 12hour hostage situation in rural louisiana ended in tragedy overnight. Police officers s. W. A. T. Team and bomb squad members surrounded this bank in the northeastern town of st. Joseph. Officers say the 20yearold man held two Bank Employees at gunpoint. When authorities moved in after stalled negotiations, the gunman shot both hostages. One was killed. Based on what was found in his apartment, police say robbery was never his intend. Written notes, plans. He actually had a book for negotiation exactly how those negotiations were take place, questions he would be asked, things they would be expecting of him. Police shot and killed the gunman. The second hostage is in the hospital in critical condition. Investigators are trying to figure out how a woman walking near a construction site at San Jose City college was killed after being struck by a tractor on campus when she was walking yesterday. She died before arriving at Valley Medical Center across the street from campus. Now investigators will try to answer if the construction site was properly isolated from the public. Construction crews were upgrading the campus water system. That project is now on hold indefinitely. Closing arguments today in the trial of a 79yearold man charged with a decades old killing of four women in northern california. Joseph naso represented himself at a marin county courtroom. He ended his case last friday after a judge told him his irritable behavior was unprofessional and snippy. Naso did not put himself on the stand. He has pleaded not guilty to the crimes. They have been sitting in traffic this morning because of a motorcycle accident and it wasnt even blocking lanes for very long. Chp did great work of clearing up this downed motorcycle crash. It was an injury accident but westbound 580 jammed up just beyond this manage. Its slow beyond the 205 intersection through livermore. Big delays for the 580 commute. We have had problems in san jose north 101 at mckee road. A dump truck hit another car at least one lane of traffic is shut down. So we have traffic backed up you can see the yellow there along northbound 101. It will be slow from beyond the 280 680 interchange. A great alternate to some of those backups of course would be to take local transit especially for the 580 delays. The altamont commuter express hauling people through there with no problems. They are reporting no delays for their trains so far and we are looking at live pictures here of the 580 680 commute. Westbound 580 would be the headlights youre looking at where traffic is going to be slow in patches from the Altamont Pass. Now, the bay bridge commute leaving oakland heading into the city, we have a backup now at the pay gates extending almost to the foot of the maze. Those metering lights were switched on just a few minutes ago. The other bridges have been fine. The san mateo bridge still looking good leaving hayward heading into foster city. So as the High Pressure holds, this low pressure is out at the ocean so we are going to be looking for a warm day with numbers in the mid90s inland, thats almost 10 degrees above average. And in terms of what happens with the fog today, right now its blanketing some of the peninsula but as the day goes on, it all burns back to the shoreline and well be looking for mostly clear skies by midday and a Beautiful Day around the bay area today. The federal government and six states are sued to block the latest proposed merger in the Airline Industry but analysts say for many travelers, that step is too late. Yesterday, the department of justice grounded the 11 billion deal between American Airlines and u. S. Airways. The government says the merger would cost consumers hundreds of millions of dollars a year in higher fares and extra fees and would provide fewer choices. Analysts say the industry has already been transformed because of consolidation. Before 2005 there were nine major u. S. Airlines. Today there are just five. Lets check wall street this morning.
