Reporter the fbi says the boy ran away after a fight with his parents then jumped a fence at Mineta International airport sunday night to get on the runway. He survived a 5 1 2 hour flight in freezing temperatures. Medical experts have baffled. Some call it a miracle. If you think of the stresses that the body undergoes at extreme altitudes, low oxygen and low temperature states, he should be braindead and frozen. After seeing how it was killing chinook salmon in his neighborhood steve holmes founded friends of Los Gatos Creek and organizes cleanups with hundreds of volunteers. After a year, he collected 50 tons of garbage, some of it epic. Mattresses, rolls of carpet, shopping carts. They have dismantled small villages and hauled out piles and piles and piles of debris. If we wait for this problem to be resolved by the city or the county or federal, then thats not going to happen. Just never ending. Reporter then there are citizens who do it alone like Aurelia Sanchez who twice a months picks up near her home next to the jungle, one of the largest homeless encampments in the country, 75 acres. This creek just got cleaned up. This is not the last time they will be out here. Until the greater problem of homelessness is solved, this is the new normal. But they run like a startup. He was troubled that they didnt get out in time and how a working Smoke Detector might have saved their lives. So he bought detectors to give away instead of his playstation 4.
