He told police the little girl was taken out of his suv while he stopped in at the corner market. Crews were able to control the fire in about an hour and a half. In san jose, a memorial is on the scene of a homicide on the citys east side. Police say a 17yearold boy was shot on murtha drive early yesterday and then died at the Regional Medical center. At this point, no one has been arrested. Murtha drive was also the site of a homicide in march but so far, no indication the two are connected. A vta light rail train partially derailed in North San Jose around 7 30 this morning temporarily blocking the intersection of first street and tasman. No injuries were reported. As cbs reporter Dean Reynolds shows us, rescuing the child involved digging through 800,000 pounds of earth. Reporter for nathan it was supposed to be the start of a fun summer weekend spent camping by the beach. When all of a sudden, tragedy struck. 911 . My friend got stuck in a sand dune and he is like under the sand and we cant get him out. Reporter nathan had fallen into a sandy sinkhole 4 30 friday afternoon and when they tried to dig him out, things went from bad to worse. As they were trying to free him, the hole completely collapsed. Reporter for the next 3. 5 hours, the Indiana Dunes National lakeshore about an hour southeast of chicago became the scene of a frantic rescue effort by park officials, police and firefighters. Even excavation companies and backhoes were mustered to help. Almost everyone has dug a hole in the sand on the beach. You know you cant get a very steep angle on your hole its going to keep collapsed down on itself. Reporter he was found inside an air pocket about 11 feet under the surface. But when he was pulled out, he was not responsive. When youre sitting there holding a child that you think is lifeless, its its hard to deal with. Those guys on their knees crying all over the place.
