To sell the public on one idea. If anything, the public support for the warriors move to San Francisco has only increased. Reporter the real question is, where that arena should be built . And according to our poll, the leading candidate is the site the warriors have been pushing since day one. Piers 30 and 32 top the survey with support at 34 . Our opponents have come at us with everything they have but right now, the site that is in the lead is the site that we have been committed to for the last 18 months. If i were the warriors and i got a result like that after a year and a half of a multi Million Dollar campaign i would be very disappointed and very nervous. Reporter former mayor art agnos wants a new arena in San Francisco. He just thinks its better suited for parking lot a just across mccovey cove from at t park. They are both about the same height same bulk and would be a marvelous addition to the city. Reporter the at t location came in a relatively close second in our poll with support at 28 . What remains to be seen is whether rising Construction Costs or a divided public will push the warriors away from those piers and towards some kind of an agreement with perhaps the San Francisco giants. Were full steam ahead with the piers but we recognize theres discussion about other sites, as well. We dont want it done fast, we want it done right. This was a look to the future and perhaps something that might change the impression the public has of Tech Companies in San Francisco. This is a boom time in technology. This is the time to ask them for the money because they have it. Reporter it runs nonprofits pays for 500,000 hours of Community Service and has 15 million that marc benioff says its hard for tech firms to part with their money. I can tell you theres still a lot of accomplished ceos and entrepreneurs who are not willing to join sf gives. Reporter while the celebration continued, sales force employees work to feed hungry people all over the world. We package over 22,000 meals in celebration of their anniversary. Reporter 15yearold audrie pott hanged herself in 2012 after pictures of her naked body were disseminated to fellow students at saratoga high. She had been drunk at a party and incapacitated when three boys allegedly removed her clothing, sexually assaulted on her, wrote on her body and took pictures with cell phones. Audries suicide came from bullying and Sexual Assault. Reporter it would criminalize the distribution of media of a sexual nature with the intent to intimidate, embarrass or harass. If it involves a minor it would be a felony. The boys in audries case were charged with Sexual Battery last year but the proceedings remain secret in juvenile court. Two of the boys got 30day sentences, the third 45 days. Had audrie been awake at the time of the assault, the case could have been brought to the adult court. We feel unconscious or incapacitated Sexual Assault victims are not provided with the appropriate protections under the current law. Reporter audries law would change that allowing for stiffer penalties in the hopes of preventing or at least bringing justice to future cases of what backers call a 21st century tragedy. To become law this bill needs twothirds vote in the state legislature. If approved it could go into effect as soon as january 1, 2015. In saratoga, anne makovec, kpix 5. Ette goodrich almost 25 years to the day a woman was found strangled her husband is arrested and charged with her murder. Kpix 5s Juliette Goodrich spoke to the womans daughter a short time ago. Juliette. Reporter Debbie Lawrence told me that she has been waiting for this day to learn about an arrest but when she found out it was her mothers husband, her stepfather and the brotherinlaw, she says she is in complete shock. She says it brings some closure though to this longstanding cold case. Almost 25 years to the day, cathy zimmer was found strangled in her car parked at san jose airport. Her body covered with this unusual quilt. Investigators arrested her husband today, david zimmer of Half Moon Bay and charged him with murder. Last week, the husbands Brother Robert zimmer was arrested on a murder charge for zimmers death. While i cant comment on specific items of evidence leading to this arrest at this time, i feel confident that the Newest Technology was used in this case and helped us arrive at this arrest. Reporter the investigation showed that the zimmers were in the middle of a separation and investigators say the husband profited financially from her death. Within a month, he sold their home for more than 225,000 and collected proceeds from two Life Insurance policies totaling 183,000. The case really spoke to us as being one that begged for justice. And we wanted to be able to give the children and the rest of her family justice. We wanted the Santa Clara County community to know the victims are not forgotten. And we want the criminals out there to know that theyre not going to get away with murder. Reporter i talked with Debbie Lawrence, zimmers daughter, last month when the cold case was profiled locally and nationwide. Because of this mysterious quilt found on her mothers body. She was hoping the quilt would bring new clues. For so many years, we dealt with this on a daily basis. It hasnt gone away for us. Closure will come when we can find an answer as to what happened, why it happened and who did it. And hopefully bring the justice that is deserved. Reporter and debbie told me it was probably the quilt that led them to new clues and some closure but she says it still isnt easy. In the east bay, Juliette Goodrich, kpix 5. Come, peter. Reporter its the story behind the new psycho thriller uneasy lies the mind but the story behind the story this movie was shot entirely on an iphone. We werent trying to shoot on the iphone to be cool or to try to be necessarily innovative in the way in which were telling stories. We used the iphone because it works for the stories and for the look we were trying to create. Reporter they used a souped up iphone with a 35 mm lens adapter that allowed them to get wide angles and telephoto shots the regular iphone cant get. They considered professional gear but chose the iphone for its oversaturated colors, its dark edges and gritty look. The price was also right. I was eligible for an upgrade. [ laughter ] just before we started filming. Reporter they used three cameras and worked around the difficulties of using touchscreen for focus and exposure. But found the biggest obstacle, the iphone isnt built for subfreezing temperatures. Basically, the iphone would die after about 2 minutes. Reporter but they kept working and brought the story to life. A fulllength feature film all made with something that fits in your pocket. Utilizing technology in a way that isnt traditionally meant to be used. And we like that idea of pushing boundaries and trying to find that new something new that people havent seen before. All this moisture is coming up from hawaii like it did when it rained here a few days ago except this time its not moving here. Its kicked up to the north by that ridge of High Pressure. So you can see all of that moisture being deflected away from us now because the ridge is closer and stronger. It hangs out tomorrow. So if you couldnt get outside today, saturday is going to be equally as nice if not a couple of degrees warmer. Then the ridge slides to the south. A subtle change this tiny change is not getting weaker just moving away from us it will allow the next weathermaker sunday to give us rainfall. Sunday during the day will not be a washout. It was Christmas Eve 16year old Louie Vaccaro in a car, no alcohol, no drugs, an older person driving. It was speed that sent louie in a direction no one saw come but gave him the ability to deliver a message we should hear. All i remember is bang and then just i didnt even feel it rolling. Reporter he was in the front passenger seat of the suv dangling upsidedown and barely able to breathe. I just remember looking up and saw my boots and i was like, oh, my god, i was like trying to move and everything was just numb. They were listening to music pretty loud. Everybody was talking. Reporter damian was sitting right behind louie. Coming around the turn. We started drifting. And the two right tires popped up. Reporter the 18yearold driver tried to correct but the Highway Patrol says the chevy tahoe was going too fast. We started speed waddling and rolled 2. 5 times and landed upsidedown on the side of the hill right there. Reporter five of them crawled from the wreckage including damian who it turns out had a double concussion along with spine, hip and leg injuries. I went back down to where everybody else got out of the car and i climbed back in and, uhm, unbuckled him and helped get him out. Reporter but with major neck and spine injuries, louie was paralyzed. It took weeks before he could even breathe on his own. Now with only 16 years of life behind him, louie is having to relearn how to envision his future. Its complete 100 different, everything. Reporter from Little Things like every 20 minutes relieving the pressure from sitting too long. Counting. Reporter to not being able to pursue his passion of riding dirt bikes at least not the way he used to. He has already found someone who is paralyzed and rides motorcycles. Just differently. He rides dirt bike. He has no legs. He has a cage and theres a lot of people that do it and they ride with no legs. Reporter youre going to do that, you know. I really want to and i saw the video i was like oh, i want to do that. Reporter louie isnt in his room at kaisers rehab hospital asking for the world feels sorry for him and he certainly isnt feeling sorry for himself. You have to look at it as, you know, this is what it is and im going to do this and im going to push to this goal and this goal and you cant be sad to just youre just never going to get anywhere. Reporter he wants to get back to high school back on track to graduate with his friends and back to what will ultimately be his life. Just because youre in a wheelchair doesnt mean you have to let go, darn, my life is over, you know. Its just starting. Im only 16, you know . So we have a long way to go. He does. The town of fairfax and the families really rallied around these kids especially louie. They have had several fundraisers two more this month. We have a link for that in the story on kpix. Com. The money goes to all the kids . Most to louie. His expenses are higher but even damian told me they are helping him pay his rent until he can get back to work. He hasnt worked since the accident. Wow. What a great attitude he has. A fighter. Wonderful. People have to help him out. Thank you. Safeway is pleasantons second largest employer with about 2600 jobs. Workers say the new company is more interested in maximizing its profits. Our experience in the initial purpose of albertsons by cerberus was not good because members lost their jobs because stores were sold off. Reporter safeway workers and the union worry they could be on the chopping block. Uscw represents safeway and albertsons workers. The private equity firm cerberus took over albert sons in 2006. Workers are looked at as numbers on time cards all about making money. Reporter the union says full time albertsons or safeway workers make 21 an hour. Industry experts believe the buyout will mean layoffs and closures selling stores in areas with the hot real estate markets. Im sure they are looking at the real estate portfolio and seeing how they can maximize those investments. Reporter safeways headquarters is in pleasanton. City leaders wonder whats now in store. What kind of numbers they will have in their Corporate Headquarters if there will be a corporate presence here. Thats one of the biggest things that im concerned about. Reporter the citys two Safeway Stores corporate presence and the workers generate hundreds of thousands of tax dollars. A closure of the corporate offices would hurt this Bedroom Community in more ways than one. It has been a source of pride. People ask us what kind of businesses we have here and one of the first things out of our mouth of course is safeway. From that perspective it, it will be quite a loss. Reporter industry watchers say safeway has been losing their shoppers to Big Box Stores like walmart and niche grocers like trader joes and whole foods. Live in pleasanton, im da lin, kpix 5. Safeway is a big company. Its the second largest grocery chain in the nation and employs about 138,000 people. Bay area headlines. An Oakland School is on lockdown this afternoon after a student reported being assaulted on campus. Chopper 5 showing heavy Police Presence at world academy. The suspect hasnt been caught yet. Officers are going to keep looking tonight. Police chase in San Francisco ended this afternoon with a crash and an arrest. Stolen pickup truck collided with at least two other vehicles on potrero him. Police say a few blocks earlier the suspect tried to get away by ramming a police car. He is now under arrest. We are told a bulletproof vest was found in the pickup. Five suspects are under arrest accused of robbing patrons and employees at this santa clara bingo hall at gunpoint. Police say the robbers struck the same place twice including last month when an older woman was pistolwhipped. The crisis in ukraine heated up even more today. There are signs of Russian Troops everywhere in the disputed region o crimea. People chanted crimea is russia. After the u. S. Placed sanctions on russia, the countrys foreign minister responded by saying they would backfire. The Russian Parliament is working on recrafting laws to make it easier for crimea to break away. When we think about post Traumatic Stress we think of afghanistan and our combat veterans but doctors are diagnosing ptsd among other americans who deal with violence regularly, inner city kids. Wendy tokuda has a case in point. Reporter the centers for Disease Control reports that 30 of all inner city kids suffer from postTraumatic Stress disorder. 60 have witnessed violence within the last year. But unlike soldiers, they never leave the combat zone. Tonight we talk with one student who rose above. There were 90 murders in oakland almost half in east oakland where dawn grew up. But one trauma started before she was born when her father was shot and killed. I never got to meet my father. But its still really affects me and my family. Reporter dawn says 10 family members have been affected by gun violence. Five friends or family members were killed. But the postTraumatic Stress disorder surfaced with another crime when her fathers best friend sexually assaulted her and told her not to tell anyone. I kept to myself in my room. Acted really funny from then on. Reporter at her tutoring Centre College track it became clear something was wrong. What was most troubling for me was to see her so engaged that sometimes in the center and then other times be so withdrawn or to be angry. Reporter finally, dawn told her mom who called the police. It turned out the accused was already in jail on other charges. The state Victim Compensation program diagnosed her and helped her get counseling for postTraumatic Stress disorder. It was a lot of tears, a lot of courage. But talked about it, it can help you because when you leave it, you know, inside, it can hurt you. She started to open up. She started to become engage again. She started to set goals. Reporter and focus on college again. But first, she had to testify in court. It was telling the story about something that happened while the person who did it is right there. Then you have a lawyer attacking you for like that was the most horrible thing that happened during the process. Its over. I got help. Reporter the defendant was sentenced to 6 years in san quentin. She spoke at the sentencing and her teacher was there. I was blown away. I couldnt believe that she could go up there and sound so confident, so uncredittably confident. Reporter now she wants to help other girls in her situation. She is interested in the law now. And interning at the nonprofit, justice now. To be able to have that strength and the ability to move on like that so quickly i mean, thats she is a very, very unusual young woman. Talking about it and writing about it, you know, its what changed my life. Reporter she found her voice in another way, too. [ singing ] reporter and the doors are just starting to open. She has already been accepted to five colleges. [ music ] reporter she wont be able to go to College Without help though. At kpix. And most kids with this are not. Probably dont even know they have it. You just see the symptoms, the inability to concentrate, anger. We do these stories every day about violence in different neighborhoods not just oakland. Its around the bay area. We forget these are real people. A lot of them young people that are affected by thi in profound ways we dont even know about. We are going to be more stories about it. All the inner cities have it.
