The high style that is obvious to the public, we are ahead of schedule, under budget, and we have been environmental student stewards and we are very excited and it opens up the vistas, it is incredible in terms of the bike path and the views all the way around. We are very pleased at this landmark moment. Ahead of schedule, but this was a complicated process. It involved a lot of environmental factors, a lot of n us about any challenges that crews may have run into over the years . Well, it has been a great deal of planning that had to go into it. Because it took as much precision to bring down the bridge as it took to build it back in the 1930s. So all of the planning, all of the time and effort from our teams, our experimentle teams, we are very pleased with where we are right now. And right now we are waiting to check out the tide situation, for the sun to come up, between 6 30 and noon today, is when we will start to we will visually with our eyes, we will be able to see movement mid morning or so. Can you explain that process . Yes, there will be some cutting that will take place on the edges of the truss. It will be lowered with the assistance of the tide and placed on two barges and barged over to the port of oakland where it will be cut into small pieces and recycled and taken throughout the bay area for recycling. And this is just phase two. Phase three has yet to begin, right . In the coming months, the Marine Foundation will be imploded, and disassembled in a testimony of different ways so in a number of different ways so we are pleased by the end of 2017, the demolition completely finished. And looks pretty good once you get to concord and 242 to walnut creek on 680 as well. Moving over to the major problem of the morning, the Altamont Pass, and look at that. 9 miles an hour. Coming up 205 in tracy. And this is all due to a solo car crash on westbound 580 after grant line road and emergency crews out there, blocking that left lane. And trying to clear out the situation, for you. But if youre headed out this way, give yourself plenty of time to get to this. As you can see it, is a 7 minute drive from Altamont Pass to 27 minute drive from Altamont Pass, but after two hours it will be 36 minutes. Best to get out the door right now. And all eyes on the bay bridge. With the demolition of the old truss there. And so official high tide today is at 12 26. And over five feet. Almost six feet. And sun is up at 7 00. We will be able to see what is going on out there. A live weather camera past the bay bridge toward the lights of the estuary, of the port of oakland, as well. Chairman devon nunes had a meeting on white house grounds last week with a source who claimed communications involving President Trumps associates were caught up in incidental surveillance of foreigners. Nunes then briefed the president before filling in his committee members. Enough questions have been raised in the public about whether he can lead a credible investigation in this. State representative saker swallowwell, a part of the House Intelligence Committee took to twitter calling for nunes to step aside. He wrote, quote, if congress is going to conduct an independence russian hacking investigation, chairman nunes should not be a part of it. Time to recuse. And democratic Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi took to twitter on the issue and wrote quote, the time is long overzoo for House Speaker paul ryan to call on nunes to recuse himself at the very least. President trump took to social media last night suggesting that the House Intelligence Committee investigate bill and Hillary Clintons alleged ties to russia. The president tweeted, quote, russian speech money to bill. The hillary russian reset. Praise of russia by hillary. Or the russian company. Trump russia story is a hoax, end quote. The clintons have not responded to President Trump. And it is not clear if Hillary Clinton will bring up the issue while speaking in San Francisco later today. And clinton hasnt been to San Francisco since a pre election trip back in october. The fbi is facing a lawsuit over its investigation into the deadly San Bernardino massacre. According to court papers, the Associated Press and two other News Agencies want to learn who the government paid and how much to hack into the shooters iphone. Officials the feds wanted to force apple to unlock syed farooks phone. New details, the marines united nude photo scandal hit closer to home. Headed out of tracy to westbound 580, give yourself plenty of time an head out now, because we have about a 27 minute drive between the maze, or not the maze, but Altamont Pass, and 680, and then it goes up to 36 to 40 minutes, in two hours. And that is for that entire yellow area, encompassing our entire coastline, all the way south into monterey bay. And some waves happening onshore. So on the left, it is where that barge is, that blue metal piece right there. So that is what is going to be taking the truss and floating it down to the port of oakland to be disassembled. Now the truss is on the right. That is the very last piece of the old bay bridge. It is 1. 7 Million Pounds. 288 feet long. And this removal process has been very long. But we are finally nearing the end. The demolition weather pretty perfect right now. So crews have to kind of check out the tied situation. And we spoke to the bay bridge spokesperson earlier this morning and told us that the tides play a big role because of the floating barge and everything. This process may start as soon as the next few minutes but it may take until noon to get things going. We are kinged of monitoring things right now we are kind of monitoring things right now. We will keep an eye on it with the action under way. A brief note for people who use the bike and pedestrian path, that will be closed during the whole removal process and this process will last through the afternoon. In oakland, jackie ward, kpix 5. Now to politics. Today, President Trump will sign another executive order. This time to roll back obama air policies to curb Greenhouse Gas emissions. The epa administrator scott pruitt says the new policy will be pro jobs and pro environment. The order is also expected to lift restrictions on new coal mining leases on federal lands. The Trump Administration is issuing another warning to sanctuary cities. Attorney general Jeff Sessions says that the Justice Department will fot provide new grant will not provide new grants to city, counties and states that refuse to help the feds enforce immigration laws. And sacramentos mayor is responding to the warning. To give people who currently undocumented to a path to legal residency and citizen. That might be constructive. The mayor says sacramento will sue against any attempts to withhold federal funding from the city. There is new information this morning about the president s plan to build a wall across the u. S. mexico border. The white house now says 1 billion will build 62 miles of it. And the president has said in the past, he wanted mexico to pay for the wall. But the administration requested 1 billion for this year, and 2. 6 billion for next year. Some estimates for the total cost of the wall are more than 20 billion. Tonight, in sacramento, pro immigrant groups plan to rally ahead of a public forum featuring the director of i. C. E. The meeting runs from 5 30 to 7 00. And how is the bay bridge looking . 20 minutes from the maze to downtown San Francisco. Right now, an investigation is under way into yesterdays deadly fire in oaerbgd. The city is once again oakland. The city is once again facing questions about enforcing building codes and the owner was notified on san pablo everybody and they have violations with the fire system and smoke detectors and fire extinguishers. And three people were killed in the the blaze yesterday. Some had to use blankets to escape through windows. Upon arrival, we had several occupants who were hanging outside of the windows. And in that situation, we are just throwing ladders and trying to get out as many people as possible. The fire comes four months after the oakland warehouse fire that killed 36 people. San Francisco Police are searching for a suspect in a pepper spray attack. It happened at the stonetown galleria, around can last night. And 16 around 8 00 last night. 16 people shopping at forever 21 reported some kind of pain to police. The victims all said a chemical smell filled the air and some witnesses told officers they saw a girl spritz substance around the store with no clear target in mind before rushing out. Police are now pouring over Surveillance Video for leads. New this morning, a tesla employee is suing the company. He claims he was harassed by coworkers for more than a year. Anne makovec joins us now to tell us how the company is responding. Reporter well, the suit basically alleges that employees basically hazed this man named dewitt lambert. At first, making him the butt of pranks. Then calling him the n word. And stealing his phone to take nasty photos and videos. Lambert said it happened on the Assembly Line at teslas plant in fremont. And he presented evidence. A minute long video allegedly taken by a supervisor. The lawsuit says that the employees were flashing gang signs. While the supervisor rapped about how he was going to cut lambert up in pieces and send body parts to his family. It was laced with racial slurs. Lambert complained to tesla hr but says his concerns were not properly addressed. And tesla refuting the contents of the lawsuit and said in a statement we will continue to take action as necessary including parting ways with anyone whose behavior prevents tesla from being a great place to work. Lambert spfull pay. While tesla investigates. New tesla hr did tesla hr do anything about the complaints . There was a big investigation last year. And at that point, tesla said it came up with conflicting accounts and some employees saying it was lambert who had a dirty mouth. The employees got some hr coaching and lambert was transfer to another accident. And then he presented this video, to to another department. And then he presented the video to an hr rep who happened to leave the company and didnt hand off the investigation to anybody else. Thank you. And it will be 76 toward Discovery Bay. And also in orrwood today, blustery winds at stinson beach. Mid60s. And low 70s in novato. We are talking about highs of mid70s in cloverdale today. Good morning. One. Big questions on wall street regarding tesla is whether it has enough cash for the upcoming production of its model three. That is supposed to start this summer. And a massive undertaking for tesla. Well, it seems to be less of a problem now. The biggest Internet Firm and owner of the biggest social media network, we checked, is taking a 5 stake in tesla with 1. 8 billion. That makes it is the fifth biggest shareholder in tesla. And tesla recently raised about 1. 5 billion in a stock and bond offering. And wall street likes this move. Tesla shares are heading higher in the early going. Bay area home prices are definitely starting to cool off a bit. The Standard Poors home price index for january show that in the bay area, prices were down 0. 4 from the prior month. Still up 6. 3 year over year. But that number has steadily gone down over the past year as well. Now, the overall market for the u. S. Is heating up a bit. Prices were up 5. 9 over the past year, to a 31month high. Stock market has been anything but heading higher of late. And we are off to a pretty flat start again this morning. Lets go to the big board and see how were doing so far right now. The dow is lower by 12 points. And the nasdaq hanging on by a couple of points and the s p is down by a point. Representative jackie spear wants the republican devon nunes to recuse himself from the panels investigation into russia, and the trump campaign. I think he is frankly over his head. I think he used very poor judgment. And i think he has tainted the committee. I actually think there is an effort under way to shut this committee down. By the president. The House Intelligence Committee has scrapped all planned meetings this week amid the nunes controversy. The full committee typically meets at least twice a week. Time now is 6 46. It is a rollover crash. Still blocking the two right lanes out there. Causing some major delays at 12 miles an hour. And so if you head out this way, you know what to do. Give yourself plenty of time to get through this area. Because were not sure how long this will take to clear up. It is a Traffic Alert. So that means it can take up to an hour or more and a wider look at the Contra Costa County area. We have slowdowns throughout westbound 4. Once you get to southbound 242, youre looking good. And southbound 680, starts to slow down into walnut creek. The other problem, Altamont Pass westbound 580 at grant line road. The solo car crash is cleared but it is an eight mile backup between tracy and livermore. Give yourself plenty of time for that commute. A live look at the san mateo bridge from hayward to foster city. 25 minute drive. Moving over to the south bay. You can see some slowdowns now in the area. Northbound 101 of course is slow. And then the major problem, it is northbound 85, at the road here, there is an accident blocking the lane. Youre moving at 3 miles an hour. So that is extremely slow. If you want to avoid the roadways, bart, muni, cal train, all on time. Roberta, what are you doing out there . Roqui, east coast, west coast, your favorite . West coast. Of course. Good answer. There is new information on the damage at the oroville dam. The states top water manager now says that the reservoir will have a new spillway in place before the next rainy season. This is the last piece of the old bay bridge that remains standing. It has been there since 1936. It will be gone by this afternoon. So as we pan over to the left here, you can see that barges are in place, it is getting ready to take that 1. 7 Million Pounds truss down. It is 288 feet long. So you can imagine, the preparation that goes into removing structures like this. It has been quite a long process. It has lasted a few years. But today, it wilt end this piece of the demolition. That is only phase two, though. Phase three will start in the next few months and that will entail taking down the Marine Foundation. Right now there are still 13 of those left. And a note to the public. Public viewing is not allowed here. So dont try to come out here to get an up close view of the trusses. Watch kpix 5 for all you need to know.
