Today San Franciscos District Attorney is announcing a new help line for anybody who has been targeted. Anne makovec joins us now. Anne, what are some of the incidents that inspired city leaders to do this . Reporter there have been several that we have been reporting on for the past couple of weeks. The president ial election being blamed for sirring up divisive emotions and emboldening people who might have otherwise been closet racists. At ucsanta cruz, for example, Police Looking for three men who yelled homophobic slurs at a student and hit her in the head with a rock. That incident was just classified as a hate crime. Police are investigating whether its related to two other similar incidents and then in fremont this week, a woman who was wearing a head scarf had her window shattered and there was a note calling her a hijabwearing swear word. She is actually in the middle of a 65day hike for peace. So donald trump responded to these kind of incidents on 60 minutes on sunday saying he is saddened by them and to those who say they are afraid dont be afraid. We are going to bring our country back. But certainly, dont be afraid. You know, we just had an election and sort of like you have to be given a little time. I mean, people are protesting. He also said, quote, stop it, to the people committing hate crimes. But in the meantime, the San Francisco d. A. Reactivating that hate crime hotline so that people can easily report hate crimes. He is going to be making that announcement at 10 a. M. So anne, some people are asking if its actually fair to blame trump for these incidents. Reporter which is a fair question. A 6yearold was among the wounded in yesterday evenings shooting in dyersburg. Neighbors say the woman killed was the mother of the birthday child. They also believe the shooting was gangrelated. But really i do think its going to be very soggy and windy throughout much of the day on saturday. Here we are pausing at 6 00 still unstable. A very unsettled weather pattern for us on saturday continuing on into sunday. Wet once again here we are sunday at 11 a. M. Continuing to see widespread rain along with the rain well see wind. And, in fact, some of the highest wind gusts will come earlier in the day on saturday. But rainfall totals very impressive. Turner is the former stanford swimmer who was convicted of Sexual Assaulting a woman outside of a frat party last year. His Early Release from jail was the talk of the school. A lot of friends have been uneasy. They dont want to walk around on campus late at night because they know its an issue and things wont change overnight. The judge gave the wrong sentence. A lot of it is just to put it out there to people both perpetrators and victims that this is against the law. There are laws against hate crimes specifically. Basically, the hotline a way to catalog these incidents provide referrals to local Law Enforcement and offer other resources to victims. Thank you. A Silicon Valley congressman who was forced into a japanese internment camp is blasting a trump surrogate. The comments from carl higby were made on the kelly file on fox news wednesday night. South bay congressman mike honda was moved to an internment camp in colorado with his parents as a child after the bombing of pearl harbor in world war ii.
