He filed a statement with the court saying that he and his family were exposed to publicity about the current case. Earlier this year he sentenced former Stanford University swimmer brock turner to six months in county jail for Sexual Assaulting a drunk woman. Critics felt the sentence was too lenient and are trying to recall him. Today san jose and its Police Department might have to resort to drastic measures because it cant put enough officers on the streets. The department only has 413 patrol officers. It needs a minimum of 500. Previously, it had been backfilling the gap with overtime but its too expensive. So today city leaders and the police union will talk about the possibility of a state of emergency request that would allow the chief to move detectives back on patrol. We are going to feel the effects internally. It will be widespread. Its going to have a Ripple Effect no doubt about it. But bottom line, number one, get to the calls for service. Long term, we need more officers. They are budgeted positions. We have vacancies we want to fill to join our department. Short term, the police chief eddie chief garcia is looking for ways to make the reassignments within the Police Department. The short Term Solution would mean moving 47 officers. The goal is to make the change by september 11. Police have now identified two san jose residents killed late sunday night as brothers. Police say that the victims are Michael Ramirez and arturo ramirez. The shooting happened in the 900 block of south 8th street. When crews arrived on the scene they found both men shot at least once. Currently investigators have no motive and no suspects. A mother critically injured by a falling tree limb at a San Francisco park is getting a lot of support. Family and friends set up a go fund me page for chway ying zhoo to pay for her medical expenses. Its raised more than 6,500 so far. Zhoo was injured earlier this month when a branch fell on her head at Washington Square park while she was watching her kids play. She says her doctor has informed her she may never walk again. A former corrections deputy is charged with beating an inmate. The Sheriffs Department says that the former deputy named timmy tri kicked a man in the head and face several times. It happened in the main jail back in october 2013. Tri was immediately put on administrative leave but the District Attorneys Office did not file charges at the time. Recently prosecutors took up the case again and that led to the arrest warrant. The city of newark faces a wrongful death suit over a Police Officers shooting of a robbery suspect. The investigators say 23year old teo valencia had committed an Armed Robbery in march at a Kentucky Fried Chicken on fulton avenue. The officer says he fired after the suspect pointed a weapon at him. It was a bb gun. The officer steps from his hiding place without calling on tee i dont valencia to stop to surrendered or anything else lifts up his ar15 rifle and shoots him in the back. Meanwhile, Newark Police say they have identified valencia as a suspect in at least 7 other robberies and a burglary. An lapd officer is under fire following the release of this video showing a controversial arrest he made nearly two years ago. Security video from 2014 shows Clinton Alfred junior, being subdued by two officers while officer Richard Garcia punches and kicks him.
