And jackie ward is along the embarcadero this morning as drivers face the first weekday commute with super bowl city going up. Jackie, good morning. Reporter good morning, frank. Were actually standing on the edge of super bowl city where emily was talking about. You see the road closed, the detour sign, the Construction Zone signs. This is the kind of stuff that drivers are facing this morning. They are being forced to turn off the embarcadero onto washington street here in the northbound lanes or southbound lanes of this city. This is expected to be the first of many messy commutes. Lets tell you about the big closures. The southbound side of the embarcadero from washington street to don chi way will be closed. Market street to beale and davis. Stewart from market to don chi way all closed. With tours and detours, the normal bottleneck situations may get worse. If the weekend was any indication how the commute would go, it wont be pretty. Weve spoke be to several commuters. Some are willing to put up with the closures knowing there will be benefits but others are already over it. This is friggen ridiculous. I you know, i dont like this. I dont think anybody else does. Reporter these closures started this past saturday. They will last until february 12th. Thats nearly a threewek closure system that commuters will get used to. This will be the hardest to deal with, the first part of this. Lets send things to lisa. How are things looking out there . Right now its looking okay. Were taking a look at the detours and closures. Over the weekend, commuters were complaining to 20, 45 minute delays heading to the detours. B. A. R. T. , ac transit, samtrans and muni will be rerouting because of the clesh ures, the b. A. R. T. Station embarcadero station is open at this hour. But beginning saturday, one of the entrances will remain shut down as it will be a security checkpoint heading towards super bowl city. Well have more on that throughout the hour. At this moment, local transit is checking in with no delays but were preparing for delays, of course, on San Francisco city streets. Stop of the biggest delays will be along battery street. Thats where all of the southbound embarcadero traffic is being detoured onto. You will be crossing Market Street by way of battery later on this morning. Its looking okay. Definitely in the 7 00, 8 00 hour. Well see more traffic out there. Market straight remains shut down. East of beale and we are expecting delays over the weekend. Problems coming off the bay bridge heading to the closures. Be prepared for most of the same on the fremont street exit. Projects are in full swing along San Franciscos embarcadero for super bowl city. A hightech tent for verizon. Construction is running 13 hours a day starting at 7 00 a. M. But super bowl City Construction comes with some downsides. The project has closed down major streets in the area. Were already seeing a little bit of traffic gridlock, especially starting this week. Jackie ward is along the embarcadero as drivers brave the first day of the commute around super bowl city. Reporter were right on the edge of where the majority of all of that construction has been focused on the embarcadero. Weve already seen drivers be confused with how the southbound lanes are closed. You can see behind me. Drivers are being forced to turn onto washington street if they are traveling in the southbound direction. The fremont street exit dumps off all of the commuters right in the middle of the closures. South of market this morning. Were looking at big delays coming off the bridge. But on city streets so far everything looks okay. Folks are making their way through the detour with about no problem. Market street is shut down east of beale and dive vis and davis. Again, its very early yet. You may see more pedestrian traffic than car traffic. No delays. Well update you once the gridlock situation develops and it certainly will this morning. The panthers will stay at the San Jose Marriott Hotel downtown just a short walk, the cesar chavez will be a prime spot for visiting fans. There will be live musing, a beer garden and a big cafe. Californias high speed rail project is already over budget and behind schedule. Some proposed changes could help it gain steam. Officials are considering bakersfield to san jose as the first major stretch for service instead of between burbank and the Central Valley. The l. A. Times reports the bakersfield to san jose segment would be less costly because it would not involve tufnles. An intense manhunt continue in the Southern California after three Inmates Escaped an an Orange County jail. Heres more. We will not stop until these individuals are back in our custody. Reporter Authorities Say these three may have spent months planning their daring escape from the Orange County jail. The sheriff sandra hutchins. It appears to be a very sophisticated operation. Reporter the plan was meticulous. It seems that the inmates cut through halfinch steel bar, cut their way through the plumbing tunnels and gained access to an unsecure area of the roof. From the roof, the inmates rappelled down to the ground. Reporter Authorities Say its likely they used bed sheets and other clothing to fashion a makeshift rope. As to what tools they used to escape, hout they got them or if they had help, all of those questions got the same response. Were still looking into that. Reporter they are also looking at whether a disturbance inside the jail just prior to the nightly head count may have been a ruse by other inmates to help the three men escape. And now says the sheriff theres a more immediate concern. Weve notified the victims of some of these crimes and the people that investigated those crimes to ensure that everybody who was involved in these cases is safe. Reporter authorities dont believe they have left the country. They say tips have poured in but so far, no confirmed sightings. And bay area roadways. This accident on the sunol grade causing a backup southbound 680 near highway 84. Theres also an accident westbound 80 right along the very busy eastshore freeway. Approaching richmond parkway. One lane of traffic shut down. Traffic is backed up almost to highway 4 approaching the scene. Keep in mind weve been talking about the closures related to super bowl 50. Expect big delays. Were see some of them already this morning. This is westbound 80 as you come off the bridge. There are delays approaching that fremont street exit. This is the same spot where we saw huge gridlock over the weekend because it dumped folks right in the middle of all of those closures and detours. Give yourself a lot of time this morning. If you need to drive into San Francisco. Again, we do have delays at the bay bridge toll plaza, there was an accident at the pay gates. Thats been cleared up.
