There were bands, fireworks, speeches and a lot of energy from the thousands of supporters who were there to cheer him on now, later tonight there will be a series of balls around washington, dc and we expect the president elect to address a dinner that he is at right now with some campaign donors. The surging ocean churned up the sand making prime conditions to hunt for seaglass, fragments of blown glass were dumped on the beach by a nearby art studio years ago. Investigators say the suspects were Wearing Masks when they took the two women a mother and daughter hostage at gunpoint while they ransacked the home for an hour. They were violent at times, searching the house diligently looking for cash, primarily, asking where the cash was. Reporter police say the suspect roughed the daughter up even breaking her finger during the attack. Investigators say because they wore gloves and masks its tough to identify them or crack a case as disturbingly violent as it was apparently random. In years past, hundreds of protestors blamed Pacific Steel for increased cancer rates in the community. Janis lost her husband to cancer two years ago. Its a responsibility of the industry to make sure that they are operating without harming either their workers or community members. An ongoing battle may be ending. Hikers in marin county say cyclists who use the trails do so at dangerous speeds. Now they could face a fine if they are caught. Kpix 5s emily turner live at Marin County Civic Center with how officials are tracking their speed. Reporter this is similar to a road speed trap but up until now it hasnt carried any weight, just a warning and say slow down but thats all about to change and with it, marin county open space district hopes there will be a change in the culture of these trails. This is destroying the peace of mind of hikers and youre all on notice. Feel like theres been a strong institutional discrimination against cyclists. Theres not been a lot of progress in this area not to the amount that we as dedicated trail riders would like to see. Reporter the battle over marin countys open space district is not new. Bikers and hikers havent been able to get on the same page when using the same trails. So the county hopes these lidar guns will be a peacemaker. [ beep beep ] reporter after years of complaints from hikers about speeding bikers, the open space district invested in lidar guns and has launched a trial phase to weed out those speeders. Out of the 66 bikers clocked, 11 were speeding. Four were above 50 miles an hour limit and then the 7 were above the 5 miles an hour when passing. Reporter violators didnt get tickets. This time. But going forward, they will. There was a crew of two rangers and one deputy tasked with the open space districts lidar guns and after this meeting these lidar readings will have peace. But whether they are too sharp or not sharp enough remains to be seen. They will now have teeth. Everybody is passionate about using the open space and we all want to protect it the best we can and there just needs to be ongoing discussion on whats the most appropriate way to use it and share it. Reporter penalties for these violations come in the form of fines and they are tiered so firsttime offenses are different than second and so on and so forth. Rescuers are frantically searching for survivors every an avalanche that buried a hotel in central italy. Two people have been recovered so far but 30 people are still inside. The first workers on scene found the hotel covered in snow with the roof collapsed and snow inside. Criticism is pouring in over the time it took authorities to mobilize the emergency crews. Firefighters say the massive snow slide was triggered by a series of earthquakes. Back here in the bay area now, workers spent the day dangling from a crumbling cliff above oshaughnessy boulevard in San Francisco. Anne makovec on the race to shore up the rocky hillside before the next storm moves in. Reporter this part of oshaughnessy boulevard is actually closed to the public but they let us through to show the work today. This is right across the street from glen canyon park. Crews chipping away at the cliffside to beat the next storm. Small rocks have been falling here for years. Thats why the city put this up concrete railing but after a round of storms this month so many rocks fell, oshaughnessy was closed to clear the debris. Today contractors began scaling the hillside with crowbars. To probe to see which are loose and then try to pry the losses ones out. Reporter the city n issued an Emergency Declaration trying to get ahead of this current round of storms. Once they get rid of the loose rocks they will put up new fencing to protect the road which should be open sometime tomorrow. In San Francisco, anne makevoc, kpix 5. Saturation point. After midnight wham before sunrise tomorrow morning heavy rain and strong winds. The rain will turn to showers as the day goes on friday so this is 4 a. M. Friday. So it will be easy to imagine you could be awakened by rain on the roof overnight tonight. And heres what happens afterwards. Passes through but plenty of isolated showers that take us through friday afternoon so from time to time, well get some rain some of it will be heavy after that initial band pushes through right in time for the morning commute. Time goes on, and we get more isolated showers heading into saturday midday. How much in terms of the rain totals . Beginning tonight through tomorrow im sorry, through saturday midday from 1. 5 to three inches in the north bay in the upper elevations, an inch to two on the peninsula, about 3 in the Santa Cruz Mountains and 1. 5 on the coast range. So all the rain turns to snow in the mountains and plenty of snow, too. 2 to 4 feet around lake level and then up above 7,000 feet and we could get as much as 6 feet of snow in the mountains. So thats why they have Winter Weather advisories and warnings posted. So heres whats going to happen. Between now and midnight a few evening showers not a big deal yet. Storm number 2 in the wee small hours of the morning and then rain and wind and winds will be up, too. Theres wind advisories posted for gusts up to 50 miles an hour. So we get wind, surf and rain and a soggy day and soggy commute friday morning. Temperatures in the morning cooler with mid50s for the south bay and rain developing after midnight tonight same for the east bay towards sunrise tomorrow. Some heavy rain. Rain and wind for the north bay with temperatures topping out chilly day for friday only in the low 50s and for lake county especially cool around lakeport and clearlake with numbers in the mid40s. The extended forecast is calling for the heavy rain tonight to change into showers tomorrow. But some of those showers could come down pretty good at times and then saturday we are going to be looking for a chance of lingering showers until midday. You want to take a breath it will be saturday afternoon. Before the third in a 123 punch comes saturday night. And sunday morning. And to dry out, we have to wait for tuesday to get a completely dry day but after that it looks like well see sun. In the meantime, batten down the hatches we could have thunderstorms.
