Phil matier on who is making the charges and why. Phil. Reporter its the Police Officers association and its no secret the District AttorneyGeorge Gascon himself a former chief has made an issue in recent months about allegations of racism and homophobia within the Police Department. He convened a Blue Ribbon Commission and at that commission he laid part of the blame of the culture of the Police Department on the overbearing power of the Police Officers union. Today the Police Officers association shot back with both barrels. Heres the story. Its an allegation that no one, especially a politician, ever wants to be accused of. But here it is. According to sworn statements by two police union officials, in 2010 while having a dinner after a harvard conference then police chief George Gascon was drinking heavily and while recalling his time on the los angeles Police Department, quote, made multiple statements that disparaged minorities. He became so loud and animated that an africanamerican patron approached chief gascon and asked him to restrain himself because his behavior was offending their family. Reporter people are raising questions, what is it . Put up or shut up. If am called in front of a Blue Ribbon Committee he will expound on it. He may not remember what he said. But i do and two others remember it. It sounds like schoolyard gossip. I would question the credibility of the Police Officers association. Ill let people judge who has more credibility. Reporter these allegations and others were included in sworn statements submitted to the Blue Ribbon Commission.
