Reporter rodeo hercules Fire District chief Charles Hanley makes about 177,000 a year. But including retirement benefits, his total compensation comes out to roughly 380,000. By comparison, thats more than san jose and livermores fire chiefs but less than San Franciscos. Critics argue inflated pay packages are one reason cities like hercules struggle financially. In my book its wrong. Reporter last month the district even gave hanley an 8,000 raise. I think our board of directors of the district gave away our money. Reporter even the chief himself admits the total costs of his employment is outrageous. A pay cut doesnt solve the problem. Reporter but the chief blames it on retirement costs. Reporter the presidio pond poisoning started this morning nearly 50 gallons of the pesticide rotinone being dumped into mound lake to kill every, singl fish. We want to restore the native system to not lake and to do that we need to get all the fish out. Reporter for decades the lake has been a dumping ground for pet goldfish, bass, carp. These Invasive Species have overrun the lake. The native species will be introduced. Well put in native fish and mussels to keep the lake clean. Reporter dead and diving fish are floating up by the hundreds. Small boats scoop them up, others netting and tossing them on the shore. Scientists want to the study the dna of the carp. These carp are bottom feeding just muck feeding fish that disturb the habitat and make it impossible for the native fish to survive here. Reporter theres no debate the carp got to go. You can tell by examining the genetics of these carp that some came from a different area probably europe maybe asia who knows. Reporter those that arent studied will serve another purpose. The castaway carp will be used as fertilizer in other parts of the park. The work is part of a restoration project costing nearly 12 million. The Presidio Trust says with the operation going this smoothly, by this weekend, they expect every fish in the lake to be dead. In San Francisco, don ford, kpix 5. There has to be a buffer zone. The native fish wont be put in the lake lake immediately. They will be put in next spring. This overturned truck was full of thousands of frozen turkeys. La tanya bass was booked in cleveland but thats her 3year old daughter. Bass was actually booked with her child in her arms. Security cameras at walmart caught la tanya bass shoplifting. Her daughter was there with 500 worth of merchandise. Bass has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
