Yesterday they told us they are expecting winds up to 30 to 35 Miles Per Hour at the top of the Santa Cruz Mountains and that they are expecting those flames to shift in the opposite direction so thats the challenge they are facing this weekend. Yeah, weve been monitoring the weather conditions with that fire all morning long and, you know, we have some good news and some bad news with it. The good news is that temperatures are cooling down. So all those 90s we saw when the fires first started, thats not there anymore. Now temperatures are in the 70s. But unfortunately as maria mentioned the winds are increasing. We are seeing northwest winds gusting to 25 miles an hour. They are going tobacco users increase this afternoon and into tomorrow so firefighters really have some time pressure on their hands to really get that fire under control. Closer to home, out the door San Francisco temperatures mainly in the 50s with low clouds and fog. Still in the middle of this cooling trend. Cooler than yesterday. And rain chance as soon as this weekend. So really starting to feel like fall around the bay area. Heres a look at your high temperatures for later on today. We are seeing mainly 60s in San Francisco and oakland. And in our far inland spots, only warming up to the low to mid70s. So going to feel very comfortable everywhere you go. Into the dublin interchange where you have more slow traffic in the commute direction. Altamont pass to 680 westbound will take you up to 15. Now lets head to oakland. The nimitz freeway here 238 in san leandro to the maze northbound right now will take you about 15 minutes so look good across the nimitz freeway on to the bay bridge toll plaza. We have some cars heading into San Francisco. But those metering lights have not turned on just yet. Maybe around 5 30 or so. Carquinez bridge to the maze westbound right now will take you about 20 minutes. And then if you are heading into San Francisco this evening, keep in mind dodgers versus giants first pitch at 7 15. Peres died wednesday two weeks after a stroke. Later today two officers charged in a bay area wide Police Sex Scandal are expected to face a judge. Giovanni loverde of the Oakland Police department and former Contra Costa County sheriffs Deputy Ricardo perez will both be in court at 1 30 this afternoon. Both face between 16 months to 3 years in state prison if found guilty. The criminal charges stem from both of their alleged sexual relationships with this teenager, a young woman who at the time went by the name of celeste guap and now jasmine abuslin. She claims to have had sex with 29 officers across the bay area over the past two years. Also due in court today a Tulsa Police Officer involved in a deadly shooting. Betty shelby will be arraigned today. She has been out on 50,000 bond since last week. Shelby phase a manslaughter charge for shooting and killing a black man Terrence Crutcher this month. As the shooting drew nationwide attention, Police Released videos showing some of what happened. Near San Diego Police were out in full force as a protest over a deadly shooting turned destructive. Amid calls for Police Reforms demonstratedders threw bottles and others warned the crowd to stay calm. Everybody stay vigilant stay on top two people were arrested during the protest which officers deemed an Unlawful Assembly after the scene grew tense. Arguments broke out between drivers and demonstrators over blocked intersections. There have been protests nearly every night since Alfred Olango was shot and killed by police on tuesday. Today bryan stow who was severely beaten outside Dodger Stadium in los angeles will speak to students at a daly city school. The former Santa Clara County paramedic will promote kindness and speak against bullying at Westlake Elementary School in daly city. Stow is a fan of the giants. Lisa reporter reporter massachusetts senator Elizabeth Warren accused the Education Department of trying to collect debt from thousands of former corinthian college. They went bankrupt last year and closed its schools. It was one of the largest chains of for Profit Colleges. Californias attorney general filed a lawsuit in 2013 saying the college lied to make students make it seem as though unemployed graduates had secured good jobs. Senator warren sent a seven page letter to the education secretary with the results of an investigation by her staff. In it, she says the departments approach is backward and many students are, quote, having their credits slammed, their tax refunds seized, their Social Security and earned income tax credit payments reduced or their wages garnished all to pay fraudulent debts that are likely eligible for discharge. She wants the department to immediately halt all collections corinthian student debt and discharge the loans. San franciscos Planning Commission has approved a controversial plan to allow private schools to be built. Its not going to be for every magnitude 2 earthquake. These are going to be for earthquakes of significance. The new system should be more reliable and faster. Just for someone to be able to duck and cover, because as we know, half of the injuries, half of the cost in the lives, are because people are in the wrong place when that shaking begins. And the peninsula commute from hayward to foster city, not too bad. I see some slowups across the span there. 880 to 101 westbound should take about 15 minutes. And also, the Altamont Pass, pretty slow coming off the 205 here at just 34 Miles Per Hour into livermore where it frees up after north flynn road on to the dublin interchange. Reporter massachusetts senator Elizabeth Warren says thousands of former students of the now defunct Corinthian Colleges are being hounded by debt collectors even though they defrauded students. Corinthian colleges closed it schools last year leaving thousands with financial debt and no degree this after a whistleblower in 2011 claimed employees of the college lied to make it seem as though unemployed graduates had secured good jobs. In it she says she wants the department to stop all collections on students debt and discharge their federal loans. Senator warren says, quote, it is unconscionable that instead of helping these borrowers, vast numbers of corinthian victims are currently being hounded by the departments debted collectors. You know, hundreds of evacuees were holding out hope for some positive news last night. They learned several more would not have a home to go to. The loma fire has burned more than 4100 acres and now were learning its also burned down eight homes and nine outbuildings. Its now 34 contained. But firefighters say that means theres still a window of opportunity for things to burn out of control. In fact, they say winds are really going to pick up today. Last night, firefighters gave evacuees that update in person and thats when they told them that hundreds would still not be able to return home. Like hell. Its like hell came in and is burning everything up. My childrens house and all our all the paintings i have done and my photo equipment and my grandmas stuff and just everything we didnt want to lose. [ sobbing ] reporter and very sad to hear when you hear these stories. And the loma fire continues to threaten more than 300 homes. We also want to mention that a firefighter was also hurt fighting the loma fire but is expected to be okay. They will bottom out a little bit more as we get closer to sunrise and then were going to reach some comfortable highs by later on this afternoon. Matthew muller of San Francisco has entered a guilty plea in a bizarre kidnapping case in solano county. Meanwhile, new allegations are being leveled against Law Enforcement in connection with the incident from 2015. Attorney Doug Rappaport represents victims Denise Huskins and her boyfriend, aaron quinn. Rappaport says that an fbi agent failed to disclose a conflict of interest during the investigation. He claims that may have delayed huskins return. That police [ indiscernible ] had a personal connection to the intended victim of the kidnapping. Miss huskins was not the intended victim. Huskins and quinn have filed a civil suit against the vallejo Police Department and are asking for an independent investigation into the handling of the case. Usa today is for the first time in its history the Editorial Board isnt asking voters to back a specific candidate but, rather, oppose donald trump. Trump they wrote is, quote, unfit for the presidency. The editorial also calls him, quote, erratic, illequipped to be commanderinchief and a serial liar. Bay bridge toll plaza we have westbound 80 to southbound 880 that connector, we have a stalled car causing some delays cars driving at about 55 miles an hour. And it is blocking the right lane of the connector and then moving on to eastbound 80 thats roadwork on the lower deck of the bay bridge, that will be cleared up around 6 45. And it did cause some delays last night but hopefully not causing too many delays just yet. Well keep an eye on that. Now to the upper deck of the bay bridge carquinez bridge to the maze westbound, westbound, will take you 20 minutes. Expect about a 15minute drive through the toll plaza. Those metering lights are on. Hayward to foster city westbound 15 minutes on 880 westbound looking good across the span. Heres a look at the Altamont Pass. Coming off 205 at about 30 Miles Per Hour. Slow through north flynn road and frees up in livermore to the dublin interchange. Heres a live look at that. Altamont pass to 680 westbound will take you 15 minutes. And heres a look at the south bay if you are heading out that way. 280 680 split on northbound 101 to 237 should take 15 minutes. Thats the only slowdown in the south bay area.
