Today bart officials responsible for maintaining security will face tough questions from the board of directors following a deadly shooting saturday and information from our own sources that many cameras on the trains are fake. Reporter there are some pictures so we do know that some of the cameras here at this station are functioning. Lets take a look at those photos showing the suspect in saturdays murder show him leaving the west oakland station right after the shooting. He is accused of opening fire on a man right as the train doors were opening and then taking off on foot. He is described as a black man in his late 20s to early 30s, 62, scruffy face, long green trench coat over a dark hooded sweatshirt. Now, the shooter and the victims had been riding on the train heading westbound to the San Francisco airport. Cell phone video taken afterward by a stunned passenger. This all happened at 7 45 on saturday night. Now bart police are facing tough questions about their security protocol. We have a number of bart personnel assigned to patrol every couple of stations. Along with, we have pay special team funded by the federal government. As far as which ones are on the trains, platforms and stations, thats security information im not willing to give out. Reporter we do see what appear to be cameras in every train but some of those cameras might be fake just for show. Today the San FranciscoPlanning Commission will discuss a proposal to place temporary controls on a development in the mission district. In july the Commission Voted to allow that development to move forward despite heated opposition. Many residents say the property will displace residents because of rent hikes. An Administrative Law judge says uber should pay more than 7 million for failing to meet reporting requirements. And this june they will be asking for a 12 annual parcel tax on the ballot to try to raise half a billion dollars over 20 years to be used to fortify levees, restore wetlands and build floodplains to protect the shore. The areas in red show 200 square miles of shoreline that will face flooding if the bay rises by 56 which the authority calculates will happen by the year 2100. Here senator Dianne Feinstein appearing in a Public Service announcement released by the authority recently. Hundreds of thousands of hopes are at risk of flooding. Our airports, freeways, infrastructure, is going to be threatened. Headquarters of Tech Companies the lifeblood of our regional economy, will be forced to relocate. Ed lees proposal would end the freeway at mariposa street. Everything north of there would be demolished including ramps connecting the freeway with king and sixth streets. Lee says the demolition would clear the way for more development. He told kpix 5s phil matier he would also like to move the nearby caltrain tracks underground. Time now 5 33. New this morning, a man fell to his death in a cemetery after running from alameda sheriffs deputies. Deputies say they tried to pull over a suspected stolen car around 12 30 a. M. The driver tried to run away. Deputies say the fatal accident happened when he climbed a fence and fell 30 feet hitting the ground. Police posted this video on youtube hoping someone might recognize him. The robbery happened the morning of december 18th at a walgreens on chestnut street. Investigators say the man threatened workers with a knife as they tried to stop him. Only on 5, a bicyclist claims he was beaten by San Francisco police. Some viewers may find these images disturbing. This is cell phone video of the incident that happened january 3 when an officer pulled donovan reid over for talking on his cell phone while riding his bike. The situation appeared to escalate after reid says he didnt have his drivers license. Rushed me grabbed my shirt collar and start punching me in the stomach and my legs were being held and beaten. Reid says he believed the officers involved should be fired. The internal Affairs Division is investigating. They have told the office of citizen complaints. A bay area plumber being rescued is speaking about his experience. Rojelio esparza was working on a sewer when the ground collapsed. They worked for 13 hours to free him from the mud and debri esparza saying he is grateful to be alive. [ speaking spanish ] i cant. I dont have words to repay what they did for me because they would never be adequate. I thank god they got me out. Thats all. Thanks to them and god. Rojelio credits his smartphone for keeping him calm during the ordeal. Since his arms were free he played games to distract himself during the 13 hour ordeal. Very sad news just in this morning. Legendary bay area broadcaster al hart has died. Hart was with kcbs radio in San Francisco for 34 years before retiring in 2000. He worked for many years with the late Dave Mcelhatton who later became a longtime anchor of course right here on channel 5. Harts voice was instantly recognizable. His family says he died in hospice care in walnut creek early this morning. Al hart dead at the age of 88. A park in San Francisco will stay closed a little longer than planned. The south side of dolores park has been closed for a 20 million renovation. But todays reopening event has been postponed because of a rainy forecast. So far theres no new date announced for the reopening. We got a little bit of rain coming in after the noontime. Around lunchtime in the afternoon and the east bay during the evening commute. A bay area daredevil died this week doing what he loved, base jumping. 29yearold Matthew Kenny was an experienced wingsuit flyer from santa cruz. Kenny had even done tv interviews about the thrill that comes with base jumping. The accident happened tuesday in a remote wilderness area near the arizona utah border. The sheriff says he slammed into a wall about 600 feet down from where he jumped. His death is the first linked to base jumping in the area known as the Arizona Strip district according to a blm spokesman. As drones rapidly become more common, lawmakers are rushing to come up with ways to regulate them. One proposal comes from a state assemblyman mike gotto. The los angeles democrat is calling for all drones to be registered and insured. It would require small license plates on all drones as well as gps and automatic shutoff features to keep them away from airports.
