Of hours but firefighters finally got the better of this fire but not before it burned a big section on the south side of San Bruno Mountain behind me and fire crews are still up over the edge digging the firelines back there to protect the areas that did not burn today. The fire sparked after 2 p. M. Residents say they heard a loud pop. Some of them thought it was fireworks. Some say it was a transformer. Power went out for an hour. It is back on now. And fire crews tell us they still dont to exactly what caused the fire but they believe it started along hillside boulevard where im standing now. Nobody was evacuated they tell me, but about 100 homes were threatened. Thankfully, things didnt get that far. It was kind of scary because i never seen flames that big, you know, in person. You see them on the news, but to have them right there across the street and really just feel that i guess what is the infrared radiation like against your face, its kind of it is a little unnerving. Reporter so there were about 10 firefighters working this fire today including from the air in a helicopter. Again about 40 acres burned. Its pretty windy now, but they say it wasnt as windy earlier and that helped. Also, were fairly close to sfo. But were told no flights were delayed because of the fire. We found these people walking their dogs and enjoying the lack of fog and wind on the hiking trail at fourth funston in San Francisco. Its near the ocean and one of the cooler spots in the bay area today at fort funston. Absolutely perfect. Its a nice day officially here because its not as warm as where i live. Where do you live . They are probably around the cliff house right now. Today was the warmest day so far this year in San Francisco. And its turning out to be the perfect weekend for a number of events happening around the bay. We have racing on the bay, the americas cup of course. The San Francisco giants are in town all weekend limping towards the end of the season. The oakland as are at the coliseum hopefully sprinting towards a playoff berth and the San Francisco 49ers kicking off their season against the Green Bay Packers tomorrow. Not to mention all the people curious about driving for the first time on the eastern span of the bay bridge. And this is the view from chopper 5. You can see its been busy all day long in both directions but no major problems are reported. This is a live look at the toll plaza as people head to San Francisco for a nice night out on the town and you can see its backed up. Its slow going. Its been a lot like this all day long. Highway 120 the main road from the bay area to yosemite has reopened. Two weeks after firefighters were forced to close it. Flames came close to destroying the restaurant and neighboring resort that sit along highway 120. Reporter even when evacuations were lifted, the stretch of highway 120 remains closed. The popular tourist stop on the way to Yosemite National park is still tallying its financial losses. Reporter while some businesses along highway 120 have reopened, down the road Yosemite Lakes resort looks like a ghost town, the manager picking up the pieces since being forced out by flames.
