Of hours but firefighters finally got the better of this fire but not before it burned a big section on the south side of San Bruno Mountain behind me and fire crews are still up over the edge digging the firelines back there to protect the areas that did not burn today. The fire sparked after 2 p. M. Residents say they heard a loud pop. Some of them thought it was fireworks. Some say it was a transformer. Power went out for an hour. It is back on now. And fire crews tell us they still dont to exactly what caused the fire but they believe it started along hillside boulevard where im standing now. Nobody was evacuated they tell me, but about 100 homes were threatened. Thankfully, things didnt get that far. It was kind of scary because i never seen flames that big, you know, in person. You see them on the news, but to have them right there across the street and really just feel that i guess what is the infrared radiation like against your face, its kind of it is a little unnerving.
