The chief called it a significant step, one that he hopes will improve relationships in the community. Tonight, San Jose Police will send out a first wave of Police Officers equipped with body cameras. When individuals make contact with the police, and their perception of what occurred differs from what the Police Department says that occurs, were going to know what actually is the truth. Reporter these officers will be the first to use the new technology after going through a fourour training this afternoon. Jason reyes lost his cousin in an officer involved shooting last weekend in east san jose. It keeps the Police Officers accountable. Reporter but some question if body cameras will make much of a difference. 2 1 2 years ago, Antonio Guzman was shot by police. That department had body cameras, but the footage was not released. Gomezs common law partner has made it her mission to demand transparency. Ive got to learn how to push forward and bring all these negative emotions and bring something positive thats the only way i can keep his memory alive. Police officers from San Francisco, richmond, and concord traveled to dallas today to pay their respects to the five officers shot and killed by a sniper last week. They were among the crowd of Law Enforcement from across the country attending funerals for three of the fallen officers this afternoon. Spouses, partners, and family members said a final goodbye to officer brett to haveson, he and Corporal Lorne ahrens were among those ambushed. The killings after the police shot and killed two black men in minnesota and louisiana sparking protests across the country. Today, the son of the louisiana man killed begged for unity. Everyone needs to approach this with the right way, with peace. No violence, none whatsoever. Dallas Police Officer michael krols funeral is on friday. At the white house today, president obama brought together activists, faith leaders, politicians and Law Enforcement officers to have a conversation about ways to keep people safe and rebuild community trust. The police chief from vacaville was among those at the meeting. Today wasnt just a conversation, it was truly looking at one of the strategies, where we need to put resources. That officer is expected to be okay and the driver was caught near the crash scene. You can see a big backup on 80 as all east bound lanes were closed during the investigation. We also saw several overheated cars on the shoulder. Lanes we opened just after 4 00 this afternoon. A person of interest has been detained following a homicide in Alameda County this afternoon. The deadly shooting took place in an area known as cherry land. Leeann . Reporter someone has been detained and youre right, that someone is being referred to as a person of interest. Now, investigators for the Alameda CountySheriffs Department are pretty sure they have the right person based on a number of witnesses and based on Surveillance Video. Now, lets show you from sky 7 hd, it happened around 1 00 this afternoon. The red pickup truck is the victims car. He was waiting for the light to turn green and he was about to make a left turn. He was then approached by a man on foot who then shot him execution style. He was shot several times. Now, ground video this time of a person in that white car is crucial. They were behind the victims car and were able to give a really good description of the shooter. Were trying to see what is the correlation between the person that we have detained and our victim, was this a targeted, purposeful murder or was this some type of road rage or some type of encounter that led to gun violence . Reporter and they are still looking for that gun. The person detained did not have a gun on him. Now, the victim we are told is described as a hispanic male in his 30s. Mikhail rushed to the side of a armored truck guard who had just been shot several times in windsor. The robbers set off and he rushed to help the wounded guard. He was able to stop the bleeding until paramedics arrived. He was laying on the ground saying, im dying, im dying, im going to die. And i basically said, youre talking, so thats good. The two suspects were later captured in napa county. The first was taken into custody on a stretcher. An officer rammed a patrol car into him after the suspect shot at the officer. After hours of searching, a chp chopper found the second suspect in a creek bed. A joint team of federal agents and police flooded an east oakland neighborhood looking for thieves who burglarized a couple of gun stores. The agents may still be out search thing evening and the case may have links to a spate of gun store heights across northern california, including here in the bay area. Eric thomas has the story. In a joint operation, police and federal agents are investigating whether the robbery is connected with one this morning in fulsome that netted two dozen hand guns. Thieves jumped a fence and broke a window at this gun store. All together, 240 guns were stolen in all these heists. Tonight, new instances of car hacking, and a local company that says it has a solution. This at a time when many carmakers still dont believe this is much of a problem. Its like a reenactment of a mad max movie. This Security Camera shows a vehicle driving down a San Francisco street at night with a person perched on the window sil. The vehicle slows down as it approaches the parked suv. Suddenly, the interior of the suv lights up. The window sitter scrambles out of his or her car and into the now unlocked suv. You are witnessing a car hacking. Watch as the thief digs through the Center Console looking for valuables. This suv belongs to a guy well call rich. I think they learned how to hack the cars, and theyre going on a scavenger hunt. Reporter i first told you about this three years ago. With these hackers, they were caught on camera in southern california. Since then, through a series of reports, ive shown you car hackers doing their dirty work here in the bay area and across the country. Surprisingly, Law Enforcement has never confiscated one of these electronic hacking devices from a criminal, and that has led to a debate. Do the devices really exist . Peter york the police are now aware of this and the Car Companies are the last one to acknowledge that theres a problem. Part of it is because they have no defense right now. Reporter peter doesnt that one of the hacking devices either but has Something Better a solution. This device plugs into the on board port located under the dash. Its paired with an app downloaded to a smartphone. When a hacker targets a car, the horn blairs and the lights flash. And the doors will be relocked. Again and again. To override this, your cell phone must be present and connected by bluetooth. And you can get an additional under the hood device that keeps the car from starting.
