Reporter the sewage started backing up saturday afternoon and the city of millbrae tells us it may be connected to a private contractor working on a sewage project right there. Four different homes, four different homes affected. Before peter could show us damage in the house, he had to put Hazardous Material booties over his shoes because though crews have done quick work, a few rooms are still smeared with grimy sewage. He says the back up of waste water into his home seemed like it was never ending. After 4, 5 hours, the whole house starts bleeding with sewer waste. Reporter waste water filled up his washing machine, flowed out of his air vents, and destroyed nearly everything inside ten rooms of the house. At least five homes were affected, including jason chens. It was really nasty. Reporter hes clearing out whatever survived and will be staying elsewhere. The smell is unbearable. Crews began to fix the problem. And another neighbor says this may been caused by weekend rain and private work on a sewage line. The rain pushed debris into main lines. I think the weather is a sewer line that caused the problem. Similar story by phone. A he said the private contractor left a cap unsecured and rain water and debris clogged up the city line. A 6yearold boy is being treated in oakland after being run over by stolen car this morning in castro valley. This is the driver wanted for injuring the boy. The Highway Patrol says the 29yearold Daniel Morris ran away from the scene. The boy was on his way to Marshal Elementary School when the ford fusion ran into him. In several months, oaklands Public Safety radio system had three failures. Police and fire had to use other means to communicate with dispatch and each other. Radio Systems Consultant david cruz says outages put Public Safety at risk. There are periods when nobody can get on the air. Friday night, radios shut down, again, this time, for 11 minutes. Sounds like there is a problem somewhere in the network and they dont know how to fix it. They dont understand what is going on. The radio system had a rocky history of glitches. The unimaginable happened in july, 2012, when president obama made a visit to fox theater. A new radio system had been installed but officers had problems communicating on their radios. At the time, david cruz was hired as a consultant to help solve the glitches. A major problem, he found, turned out to be signals from cell phone sites bleeding into radio channels, causing disruptions. Still, over the years, oakland radios have continued to experience problems. The Public Schools police force overseas 90 campuses. We have had outages and monitored radio system. Opd tried to work with us. The goal is to transition into the county wide radio system.
