tragedy that has affected all deeply to the core. >> chp officers came and went in a constant stream to the emergency room at john muir medical center. >> one hour after his death, a chp helicoptercled the hospital flashing lights in what appeared to be a salute to the fallen officer. >> the family wanted to once again express their deepest gratitude to the law enforcement family, first responders, medical staff, members of the public. you've been amazing. it's important that you guys know, he absolutely loved his job and the service that they did. all us and in the community, truly. >> reporter: a fund to help out the officer's wife and four children has been set up and docks will be accepted we are told at all wells fargo branches. also on thursday the family and officials are supposed to begin talking about plans for a memorial. for a sad night here in walnut creek. "abc 7 news." in the meantime, the death which is gut-wrenching a candlelight vigil when the news spread. few hundred people who had gathered at an elementary school struggled to gather their thoughts and their prayers. the officer lived there with his wife and four children. >> we now know a lot more about the man that shot the officer. 36-year-old christopher lacy a former sausalito resident. authorities served a search warrant. >> they were all over the place. >> jerry ward took the photos of serving their search warrant at liags si's home. she description her neighbor. >> he never wanted to be around a lot of people. other than that, he didn't really want associate. >> dan: the 36-year-old bought this property a year and a half ago from what we understand. and i-team reporter dan noyes has been looking into his background and joins us with the important part of the story. >> reporter: we have seen this before. it's the day after we find a more complete picture of the gunman, this time he let clues on the internet, including a detailed resume. ♪ >> chris lacy was a computer programmer. he looked for work and dates. he contacted several companies, including ebay but we reached one owner he hired lacy last year for four months full time. >> i remember feeling like, i'm not sure whether i trust him exactly or not. >> dave told us by skype that he had concerns about lacy but couldn't quite figure out why. >> sometimes you can tell when people, they seem to be nice and conversational and everything but you can tell underneath that they are angry. >> the father told alan wang that he and his wife saw mental health problems from an early age. >> we would talked to him very engage and other times he would be kind of depressed and not wanting to talk, kind of crawl inside himself. >> craig says his son suffered a psychotic break his senior year at san francisco state. >> he was very paranoid he was in the hospital and they diagnosed him as being bipolar and put him on lithium. >> he graduated with 3.79 gpa and moved to sausalito and the i-team has learned he got a hunting license that same year. >> i never saw him use a handgun before. he shot with a shotgun and a bow. >> the resume says he moved sausalito to near chico and started a small farm homestead to sell online and customers in the bay area. i contribute significant to the ron paul campaign and liberty movement. even with his message health history and access to guns, people can't comprehend how he wound up in the shooting with the officer. >> craig lacy said he hadn't talk to the tail end of the commute hour. kenyon youngstrum a seven-year veteran of the force responded in several cars to a traffic accident near a road. >> they went to the location and he was not able to locate an accident scene, therefore he cleared the detail. >> they agreed to meet a short distance up the freeway to handle a dead deer who was lying on the southbound lanes of 680. >> his partner told him he was going to conduct a traffic stop on a green jeep wrangler for having an obstructive license plate. >> driver of the jeep was 36-year-old christopher lacy. jimmy lee would say didn't say how it was obstructing the license plate. >> the officer apparently directs the jeep to pull in behind his vehicle. second officer initiates a traffic stop and is behind the jeep. >> the jeep is sandwiched between the two patrol cars. officer youngstrum goes to the driver's side of the jeep. the dashboard camera records what happens next. >> the officer and lacy had a short conversation. then without any warning, lacy pulled out a gun and shot the officer in the head. >> his partner who was approaching from the rear heard the gunshot, saw his partner go down. drew his own service weapon and shot at the jeep striking lacy critically. >> the floral tribute keeps growing while the investigation continues. there is one big unanswered question which investigators are trying find and that is motive. why did christopher lacy shoot officer youngstrum. >> dan: more on that story at 11:00 on abc7 at 11:00. let's move on to the weather. we've had some thunderstorms moving into the bay area to today. let's get to spencer christian who is tracking to them radar. >> here is a look at live doppler 7-hd. if you don't like thunderstorms good news is we have dry air coming in from the west that is actually diminishing the threat. we do have some active weather scattered around the bay area. you can see here on live doppler let's close in on this area of light sprinkles over in the east bay near san ramon and hayward. its small area of wet weather, not really doing much except producing light sprinkles. more impressive looking cell is pushing through the santa cruz mountains. no reports of dig development from this system. it could be producing sprinkles here but looks like the threat is diminishing as we go to the nighttime hours. red flag warning for high fire danger remains until 11:00 tomorrow morning. we could see cloud-to-ground lightning strikes but that is diminishing and i'll have more coming up in just a moment. >> dan: coming up next at 9:00, a bay area loved and he is really needed by barack obama right now. >> reporter: tomorrow night the president will make his pitch to voter in the arena. the speech moved inside because of weather concerns but democrats say they won't let that rain on their parade. travelers experienced scary moments at san jose international airport this evening. authorities evacuated terminal b after smoke in an elevator shaft triggered alarms. some passengers left terminal b and others stayed aboard their arriving flights until firefighters determined there was no hazard. some equipment failed and caused hydraulic fluid to overheat in the basement. the airport resumed normal operations at 7:15. some passengers had to be rescreened as a result. family and friends searched for a young man from lafayette who vanished during a weekend trip along the sacramento river. bret olson disappeared after taking part in the annual chico float on sunday. thousands float on innertubes. his friends last saw him near beer can beach. sheriff's deputies have searched the river and nearby areas, so far no luck. a new twist in the personal saga of east bay politician nadia lockyear. the former alameda supervisor was arrested last week. police found meth paraphernalia in the room she was sharing with her son. she resigned her seat after it came out she had an affair and a drug problem. her husband has filed for divorce. and then there is this. a sonoma county supervisor arrested early monday in san diego. police say that the supervisor got into a fight at a downtown bar with a 30-year-old man from arizona. he faces fellly battery charges for causing serious injury and disturbing the peace. the 31-year-old is out on bail and yesterday attended a council meeting. he issued a statement today saying that he was protecting female friends who were being harassed by what he called rowdies at the bar. let's go back and talk to spencer christian for the full forecast. we talked about the thunderstorms bouncing around. >> unusual weather for the bay area. thunderstorms and lightning strikes scattered around. active weather winding down right now. a live view from the high definition mount tam camera looking down on the bay. a few clouds around. moisture in the atmosphere and little breaks of clear sky as well. a live look at doppler 7 hd. quite a bit of moisture on the radar image. not a lot of rainfall hitting the ground. on the east bay in the area of san ramon northeast of heyward and towards concord an area of moisture with light sprinkles but nothing very heavy. more impressive looking area of rainfall and perhaps even thunder involved here. a strong cell towards los altos which had lightning strikes in the early evening or late afternoon hours but you this is all beginning to wind down as we get the flow of dryer air to the west which is driving the moisture out of here and diminishing our threat of thunderstorms overnight. current temperatures in the 60s around the bay area. 72 degrees in antioch. 57 san francisco. these are the highlights. showers ending overnight replaced by dryer air. skies turning sunny tomorrow and a mild pattern friday through sunday and a calm one i might add. overnight tonight still some moisture lingering. fog at the coast. overnight lows mainly in the mid 50s tonight and here is what is happening in the atmosphere. satellite and radar composite shows a remnant low from what was tropical storm john well, to the south down in the pacific. generating a floor of moisture up in our direction. a warm stream of moisture into southern california. subtropical moisture. another stream throw flowing into the bay area which fueled whatever active weather we had today but start the forecast animation at 11:00. tonight. the moisture will tie tomorrow morning. during the day sunny skies tomorrow and dryer conditions and calmer more seasonal weather. down in the south bay look for partly cloudy to mainly sunny skies tomorrow. highs from upper 70s at sunnyvale and -- downtown san francisco a high of 65 tomorrow. 60 in the sunset district. up in the north bay highs range from upper 70s at se sonoma. 82 clover dale. 71 oakland. 73 bp confirmed today that hurricane isaac has exposed deposits of oil from its massive spill in 2010. tar balls showing up on the louisiana shoreline and dead rodents. giant rodents originally from south america. they have washed up on the beaches in mississippi. estimates show there may be more than 20,000 carcasses. isaac made landfall one week ago. a dead squirrel that' parentally resulted in a 7-year-old girl coming down with bubonic plague. she suffered a seizure and spiked a 107-degree fever after coming down with the disease on a family camping trip. she found the squirrel and wanted to bury it. doctors think it was infected with bubonic plague. >> she went back to try to bury the squirrel again. her pink sweatshirt was near the ground and what we think happened is i had her tie it around her waist as the family was leaving and we found some flee bits around her torso. >> sara jane's family thanked the fed cal team for saving her life. she should be just fine. colorado's first co confirmed e of bubonic plague since 2006. u.s. health officials have now sent warnings to 39 countries that their citizens may have been exposed to a potentially deadly mouse borne virus. roughly a quarter of the 10,000 people thought to be at risk were from overseas. so far, two people including an alameda county man have died from the lung disease. four others got sick as a result. authorities believe that most of the victims stayed in one of the tent style cab bins in the park's popular curry village camping area. to southern california. a bizarre bank robbery in los angeles today. police are looking for two men who took a bunch of money after kidnapping the bank manager the night before and after abducting her strapped a purported bomb to her body. here is nick watt. >> reporter: east los angeles 08:30. the manager of this bank of america walks in to work and tells the staff she has a bomb strapped to her stomach. >> a device was strapped to the woman's body. she was told that it was explosive. and she was ordered to go into the bank, take out all of the money. >> she told police the robbers kidnapped her last night and forced her to play that terrifying part in their audacious heist. the bomb squad removed the device and detonated it but unclear whether the device was genuine or fake. there are echos of the fatal robbery in pennsylvania back in 2003 when a pizza delivery guy walked into the bank with a pipe bomb strapped to his neck and walked out with $8,700. the bomb later exploded killing him, unclear whether he was in on the plot. this morning the bank manager says she feared for her life and just did exactly as she was told. >> she took the money out of the bank and threw it out the door to the bank robbers. >> two bank robbers who never set foot inside the building escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash. nick watt, abc news, los angeles. well, a new answer to neighborhood gridlock. coming up next, do you need to car pool your kids to school?
