struck and killed melody and maimed her father. that it was two years ago. and tonight just down the road marin county police officers set up a dui checkpoint in her name to try to prevent the tragedy like this one. marin county law enforcement dedicating dui checkpoint to 9-year-old melod melody. 2 yourself ago today that motorcyclist under the influence rammed into father and daughter here in novato. aaron says he has the memory fixed in his mind and heart. >> we were just walking across the street in a crosswalk holding hands and we were mowed down by a drunk driver. >>reporter: his daughter murdered by edward shafer in the collision. he lost a leg. he says every step is a remin reminder of his loss. >> i can forget about it sometimes but walking is not easy. doesn't come naturally and so my physical injuries are with me and they are a daily reminder. >>reporter: marin county officers asked his permission to use her name and picture for the checkpoint. >> this checkpoint we are having in novato is in honor of melody and her life and to bring awareness and education and also to deter drunk driving in novato and in marin county. >>reporter: dozens of cars lined up on san marin drive for the check point. licenses are checked. drivers are asked if they have been drinking. those like this family who had unlicensed driver at the wheel were taken out of their car and vehicle towed away. now tonight kick off so bright checkpoint all over the state. as far as the family here they had a baby boy 6 months ago and now along with the now 9-year-old over alleges that is they are white supremacist and spreading hate. as david reports the suspension were triggered by senior class photo. >> symbol of white hour have been surfacing for week at this doing it it kind of makes it for an example that like maybe the sophomore or freshmen should do it too. >>reporter: school superintendent expressed concern that a white group off campus may have tried to recruit student members. principal ken lawrence immanuel hope the suspension teach the 5 students a less soychbility at some point you hope the student gets the message. and frequently they get it police are crediting a young teenager with saving a little girl's life. boy gave a tip that meant he provided information about his own father. police have been lacking for george rodriguez for two weeks now. they say he left a 3-year-old girl for dead rolled up in a carpet. lee ann has the latest on the investigation. >>reporter: 35-year-old george rodriguez is still on the loos loose. campbell police say he fled after beast his former girlfriend's 3-year-old daughter. the little girl was found with a black eye, bruises on her face and stomach in this garage. police now say it was the suspect's son. 15-year-old boy living in the house who discovered the little girl in rolled up carpet. police say the girl was picked up by a prepared and taken to her mother. the 15-year-old troubled by his discovery eventually called police. but by then the girl's mother jane had disappeared with the child. two days later the little girl and her mother were found in this shopping center parking lot near saint teresa boulevard in san jose. this is police on may 11th after finding them. >> it's an area where we had some information that she may have had some friends in that area and so they the developed some lead that is she was possibly going to this the particular parking lot. >>reporter: neighbor says she's not surprised. police had been to the house in the past. >> we would go and look and trying to hop over the fence like trying to get to them and tell them to come out and it's happened like numerous times. >> very unfortunate and sad. beautiful little 3-year-old girl and now we had no idea. very quiet. they have some issues with the neighborhood. that also area but other than that it's a great neighborhood. >>reporter: mother is in custody but republican and democrat rig east has not been found. meanwhile police say the little girl is in protective custody. in campbell, abc 7 news. central california chemistry teacher faced a judge saying she helped kid inhale a dangerous chemical and kept explosives in her classroom. 34-year-old woman made nitroglycerin written in the class room while students present. yesterday a haz mountain and bomb squad l team removed the dangerous materials from her class room at livingston high school again in central california. 1100 students were evacuated while the team detonated the material in a field behind the schools. >>
