We are just learning San Jose Police are investigating the 267th homicide of the year. This morning officers responded to the area of ocala avenue near south king road. They found a man suffering from injuries. Police wont say how that victim was hurt but a person of interest has been detained and is being questioned. At this time last year, san jose only had 11 homicides. Increase of 130 . 6 01. More breaking news. Fire crews still at the scene of an overnight fire that tore through an east bay warehouse. It happened on Research Drive near the corner of vasco road and eastbound in livermore. Today in the bays bob redell is live at the scene this morning. Any word on how this fire started, bob . Not yet. Good morning to you, laura and sam. Livermore Fire Department doesnt know yet whether or not this fire that dput gutted mill air conditioning and heating is suspicio suspicious. This Light Industrial area is unpopulated at that time of hour. The fire investigator is expected out here within the next couple of hours or so. The fire started around midnight. Anyone with windows open here in the Livermore Valley could hear the sirens blaring as police and fire rolled out a heavy response to a twoalarm fire. The deputy fire chief says the build was involved when the crews arrived. First firefighters did attempt an offensive attack. Tried to go inside and put the fire out. But they werent able to make any knock down or progress on the for and eventually had to withdraw and move to a defensive tactic where you see the aerial ladders go up and spray water downward on the building. Reporter the fire gutted the inside. Firefighters had it knocked down by around 1 00 this morning. Took them about over an hour to put it out. One firefighter was treated at the scene but the department believes he might have been sick beforehand. Fighting this fire just exacerbated his illness. Fire department will be looking into whether or not the fire started in one of those bins and spread to the building or if it was the other way around. Starting this Morning Police officers in the bay areas largest city will be equipped with body cams. Officers with the San Jose Police department will be issued the cameras this morning and they will spend several hours training with them in the field. Last year the Department Field tested cameras for several months. Theyre now standard for officers on patrol and s. W. A. T. Units. Any videos for incidents involving officers such as shootings or incustody deaths must be immediately be downloaded into the departments storage system. Funerals will be held today for three of the five Police Officers shot and killed by a sniper during a protest last week in downtown dallas. Dallas Police Senior Corporal Lorne ahrens, Dallas Police Sergeant Michael smith and rapid Police Officer Brent Thompson will be laid to rest. The two other officers will be buried later this week. Yesterday, president obama and george w. Bush led an emotional memorial for those five officers. The men were also honored at a large public memorial attended i be president obama yesterday. It marks the 11th time the president has had to eulogize the victims of a mass shooting. Just a few weeks ago he did so in orlando. Two suspected armored car robbers are behind bar this morning after a 5 1 2 hour manhunt through two counties that ended when a squad koran over one suspect. Now on the right side of your screen there you can see a second suspect tracked down in a mobile home park. It all started yesterday when a gunman shot an armored guard. He and his accomplice took off with an undisclosed amount of money setting off an intense search and that is where an officer spotted the suspects car. One suspect fired at the officer who responded by ramming his car into the suspects vehicle. One of the suspects was injured and arrested. The second suspect made a run for it ending up in that nearby mobile home park. The officer that actually took the first suspect in custody confirmed the id of the second suspect that it was, in fact, the gentleman that ran from us earlier today. They seem to be all happy that they were caught. But one of the sheriffs said we caught the bad guys. This morning theres no word on the condition of the guard who was shot in windsor but we do know he was alert when he was transported to the hospital. A 57yearold vallejo woman is still missing and weve learned that one of the four suspects in her kidnapping for ransom case used to date the missing womans daughter. Investigators say the four people kidnapped elvira babb two weeks ago and demanded 60,000 in ransom. The suspects are all now being held on a Million Dollars bail. Investigators say that none are talking about what happened. Yesterday her son dliched a powerful message to his mom. A friend of the family tells us that one of the suspects is not only the former boyfriend of babbs daughter but at one point the couple lived with babb. Changing topics now at 6 07. They may build it, coming up in business and tech. Los gass exptedt next month the town council of los gatos is expected to take the final vote on a development known as north 40. Last night the community had the chance to voice concern or support for this project. Phase i of the development calls for more than 300 Housing Units along with retail shops. So some mixed use development there. And some neighbors are worried its going to cause major traffic problems. That proposed development would be on 44 acres of empty orchard space right by highways 85 and 17. Only in Silicon Valley a security robot had a runin with a toddler. Quite literally. It happened last thursday at stanford Shopping Center. 15monthold harwin teng was with his family walking with his mother when he bumped into the robot, fell down and then that 300pound robot just ran over his foot. Paramedics checked on the toddler. His foot was swollen and bruised but not broken. And the robot did not stop at all. And just keep on moving forward. And it ran over my sons, i believe, right foot. And at that moment i start screaming. We have machines operating all over the state of california. Weve operated for over 35,000 hours with zero incident. So this is a horrific accident and we believe the technology and the machines are incredibly safe and were going to continue to do our best to ensure that they are. Google had largely torn up the plans for crazy domed headquarters in Mountain View after the city said google could not go forward. Mountain view, the city, said link linkedin, not google would build the new campus. Well, the Silicon Valley Business Journal says google made a deal with linkedin, google will take over the headquarters seen here. Linkedin will take some of googles buildings. Everybody is going to be happy. Were not sure how much money is changing hands. Linkedin says its not related to the purchase of the company by microsoft. It is hard to oversee how disneylandesque this headquarters are going to be. Here you see the dome city. Thats just the start. The plans call for offices to be built in modules sort of like shipping containers and then giant sky crane robots will move those offices around like tetris pieces so that you have a Different Office location under the dome from time to time. Halfmoon bay, 72 degrees. Some upper 60s in the Mission District today and some 80s and 90s for the north bay. Fairfield, 93. Antioch, 92 as well as 92 today in pleasanton. The wind will not help us out at all. In fact, this very light northerly wind at five miles an hour. So it will be just enough to keep the immediate coastline cool and then the inland areas once again very hot with some poor air quality, especially in the east bay. And the south bay. Thats where we will have some high levels of some ozone. As High Pressure continues to build it keeps it hot in the valleys for today, tomorrow, as well as friday. And then on saturday, feels better as this area of low pressure moves in. Looking ahead to the weekend forecast, mid 60s coming down for the 90s on friday and the outitys by the end of the weekend for all of those inland areas. Car makers must fix safety recalls free of charge. Regulators require it. Thats why tiger in san jose called us. Dodge replaced the airbag in his mass numb then handed him a bill for 500. Tiger wanted to know why. And so did we. The dealer explained that in addition to the recall service a technician recommended replacing a park called the clockspring, airbag trigger. Dodge said the shop called tiger and authorized the nearly 600 job. Tiger said he was under the impression that all airbag problems were part of the recall service and he expected to pay nothing. Supervisors yesterday overwhelmingly approved a resolution introduced by jane kim. It would eliminate tuition fees at ccsf and provide grants to lowincome students for transportation and textbook expensions. The plan is expected to cost 12 million in the first year. It would be paid for by tax measure on the November Ballot which is not yet been approved. After a lot of testing the San Jose Police department will roll out body cameras to all officers starting in the field today. Today in the bays kris sanchez is live from sjpd headquarters. This has been in the works for quite some time now. Good morning. Quite some time. And this is day one of issuing those body cameras to all Police Officers. This is the time that officers start doing their shift change. We noticed them walking in with their uniforms. No body camera on yet. Thats going to change as of this afternoon when they start getting them issued. Nbc bay area was invited to sit through some of the fourhour training the officers will get before they get their cameras. The city spent 4 million on nearly a thousand bodyborn cameras. These are the ones made by tazer corporation. The video wont be pubably but we can request it when need be through a public records request. Heres what we know about the cameras and policies so far. The cameras have a 12hour battery life and can record 70 hours of content. Officers cannot disable the hoard wear n hardware nor the software. They must be accident during use of force, confront trace or assaults. The officers can turn them off during private conversations with their families, during strip searches, tactical briefings, or contact with sources who want to remain anonymous or minors. Any video of an officer involved shooting or death in custody must be uploaded immediately. Nbc bay area Investigative Unit asked all Bay Area Police departments with if they tracked when they are recording during use of force incident and they found most of them are, though oakland is not. It mentioned the black lives matter movement, then calls on neighbors to join the ku klux klan. It also lists a phone number and website. San Francisco Police addressed the matter at a scheduled meeting last night telling residents to report it if the pl fliers are seen. One posted it on social media to make people aware of th hateful message. Saying that, oh, its just free speech. No, youre trying to intentionally hurt and smear people who live in this neighborhood and people who live in the city which isnt okay. Police say they have received no complaints about the fliers and that patrolling officers found no signs of them. Distributing the fliers is not an illegal activity. The former Stanford University swimmer convicted of Sexual Assault is going to be required to undergo drug and alcohol counseling. Now, that decision comes after brock turner was caught lying about his high school habits. Internal Probation Department communications obtained yesterday showing that turner is going to have to have the counseling requirements added to his probation before september 2nd release from jail. Pivotal day for san jose man accused of killing his parents. Hasib and his 17yearold brother omar are both charged with shooting and killing their parents in their evergreen home. Police say they left disturbing messages at the crime scene and then went to an a,nime conventin in oakland. Hasib has pleaded not guilty. Were getting some gruesome details about last weeks death in palo alto this morning. The killer stabbed the female victim multiple times. 65yearold jenny she was found dead in her home. Investigators say they still dont have any suspects be you they think the killers most likely new her who was a local businesswoman and realtor. The san jose man charged with animal cruelty is back in court today and angry pet owners fuming over this. Our once again planning to rally outside. Robert farmer pleaded not guilty to ten felony animal abuse charges. Hes accused of kidnapping, sexually abusing and killing cats in san jose. Police arrested him back in october after officers found him sleeping in his car with a dead cat. This came after farmer was caught on camera luring an orange tabby cat from its home. Court documents lichked him to similar disturbing incidents in the past. Now today a judge is expected to set a preliminary hearing date. Another animal abuse case, this one stemming from the east bay. Investigators in the trivalley want to know who attacked this small cat. A homeowner in livermore found the animal on her front yard last thursday. 18inch arrow with a metal tip was shot through the cats cheek. The arrow went all of the way through the cat so it was sticking from one side to the other. Cats have nine lives, so at least hes got eight more to go with. Just hard to look at that guy. A chip implanted in the animal indicates it was possibly adopted from the Cat Foundation in san ramon. Police are hoping anyone with more information on the cats owner will come forward. Poor little thing. New warning to east bay homeowner, thieves are targeting homes for sale. Concord police are telling homeowners to be on the lookout after thieves targeted several homes there and in neighboring clayton. All had posted for sale signs. The breakins are happening when the properties are empty. In some cases day nay bors have been fooled in thinking the thieves were movers or contractors. Sometimes they go in the house and case it and see whats valuable. When people are gone they will come back and hit the house. Please dont know if the crimes are connected but advice anyone selling their home to remove all valuables and to let as many neighbors know as possible so they as well can be on the lookout. It is a sweetheart scam thats targeting women. This is what investigators are saying about this south bay man joel wynn. Facing multiple felly charges after police say he scammed at least seven women into giving him more than 200,000 in all. There may be more victims out there. The suspect befriended the victims online and would ask for an emergency loan once he gained their trust. Then he would stop calling and quickly disappear with all of their money. Center health which operates the 300 bed facility wants to close and merge the hospital with summit Medical Center in oakland. That drew a huge outcry from the community saying they would lose the only emergency room between richmond and oakland. The citys decision last night is not legally binding but allows lawmakers to work with Center Health to come up with another option. A new law impacting thousands of people in San Francisco is now on hold. It could have meant serious fines for popular websites like airbnb and craigslist. It was a lou that would force home sharing websites to remove listings not register wed the city. Companies who dont comply could have faced fines for up to 1,000 a day. Now San Francisco lawmakers are considering tweaking that law to address airbnbs legal arguments. There is also a a new lawsuit on hyperloop company. Allegations against the leader theres. A fire investigator expected out here within the next hour or two to try to figure out what the fire what caused the fire to destroy millers air conditioning and heating here in South Livermore which is not far from the Lawrence Livermore lab. Part of the investigation will focus on these dumpsters. You can see the scorch marks on the dumpsters. Theyll try to see the fire started in one of the bins and spread to the building or if it was the other way around. The fire started around midnight last night. When Fire Department arrived the business was all fully involved. Firefighters tried to go inside but had to withdraw and go on the defensive, fight from the outside and dump water from above. The chief ended up calling for a second alarm. The fire investigator will be looking into whether or not someone set this fire intentionally. Were going to investigate it and see.
