Ive talked to a number of pr experts, some in the aviation industry. This were startled by the video, just like the rest of us and flabbergasted by uniteds handling of it. Youve seen this video many times now, probably from several angles. A man with a ticket and a seat told he had been randomly selected to leave to make way for deadheading united crew members. Witnesses say he explained he was a doctor and that he needed to get home. In his initial statement united said the man refused to volunteer. Now you cant refuse to volunteer because those words mean opposite things. Then united called in the Chicago Police and Airport Security and the errors continued. Chicago place said in a statement the man injured himself when he fell in a seat against the arm rest though thats not what happened on video. United doubled down with a Public Statement in which the Ceo Oscar Munoz said he was sorry the passenger had to be reaccommodated. Thousands of people on social media rolled their collective eyes over the word reaccommodated, and this is not video of a man being reaccommodated. Munoz, by the way, was named pr communicator of the year. Just last month by pr week magazine. The judge said said he transformed the fortunes of the beleaguered airlines. People call this to the pepsi pr executive. Munoz used to be an executive at pepsi. Still enormous questions. What did united tell Chicago Police . Would police have responded the way they did if they knew they were ejecting a paying customer entitled to a seat to make room for an employee as part of a business decision . It wasnt a safety issue. The passenger has been identified as a kentucky by a kentucky newspaper, by the way, as dr. David dow. Weve been asking and let us know what you think on facebook and twitter. What would you have done . Passengers loudly objected.
