There is a stretch that when traffic slows enough for drivers to steal a chance has a pretty spectacular view. As good as that is, though, its nothing really compared to the view looking back. It is one of the best in all of the bay area, and it is one that Ike Silverman shared for more than 50 years with his wife. She was very spontaneous, warm, and friendly. They moved into their home six months after they were married in 1958. They raised five children here before roz passed away in 2010. She had alzheimers disease. Ike thought about how and where to best memorialize his wife, and he settled on a spot 50 feet from his front door, and a bench so that others could share in their amazing view. It reflects her natural willingness to share a love of the environment and a love of people. And the love of being outdoors. What ike did not quite expect is just how perfect and how popular this gesture would be. One of rozs great qualities, ike says, was her ability to make strangers feel instandly comfortable and at ease. And in the old days when she caught hikers and bikers drinking from their garden hose, their son david says she would invite them in for a real class of water. Every time i came in the house, there would be a hiker, a biker, tieing their shoes, having water or a snack. It was amazing and it warms my heart.
