They said it is likely they will be here all night. The fire is contained. Occasionally, it flairs up and smells like smoke around here. They want to make sure its safe to go inside. Dozens displaced and two suffered smoke inhilation. Flames poured from the front of the building on Mission Street near 29th. Sam works across the street. I heard that all the fire trucks came, then kind of exploded. Reporter he couldnt believe how fast it grew. I was worried. Saw the smoke going that way. It was out of control. Reporter the fire quickly jumped to five alarms and spread to six buildings. The building above the restaurant, saw the smoke, then watched the flames run across to the hardware. Reporter tonight, at least 40 people who lived in the buildings are displaced. In charge, did a great job making sure we were able to conduct primary and secondary searches for victims. But, it got to the point we needed to really contain this fire before it spread farther. Reporter there were evacuations and smoke could be seen for miles. People nearby told to shelter in place. Two adults were transported for minor smoke inhilation. Crews continue to pour water from outside. We need to be sure when we enter the building, we are safe. This evening the fire was contained, fwu smoke continued. How fast you got it. Reporter we are back here live. They continue to spray water and water continues to pour out. At this point, investigators say they are not sure exactly how it started. They havent had a chance to take a good look inside. You could see it this afternoon. What was in the smoke, one of the reasons people in a fiveblock radius were told to shelter in place. Marian favro is live where the evacuees will be. Volunteers are setting up cots inside this building. There are 27 evacuees who listen spending the night. Many are filled with worry about their pets and their future. Flames drove in from their San Francisco homes, now 27 evacuees are staying here at the sl vacation army shelter. Joseph william says before the fire looked like this, he smelled smoke. We come out of our room and discover it is a fuse box. We popped it open and smoke started coming out. I run to get a fire extinguisher and put it out. By the time i came back, it was completely up. They grabbed their 1yearold son and ran out. Everything we own is there. I dont have anything. Reporter stephanie was napping when the fire broke out. She got out okay, but fearing her two 4weekold kittens were killed. They had to carry one elderly lady out. I had to go up to get my kittens, they wouldnt let me back up. Reporter some were able to save their pets. They gathered nearby where American Red Cross volunteers assisted at least 46 people from this 5monthold to this 89yearold. This mans critical medication went up in flames. Many evacuees boarded a muni bus that took them here to this Salvation Army shelter, a place to sleep and reflect not just on what they lost, but what they cherish most. We have my son and good health. Could be worse. Reporter not all evacuees are staying here tonight. More than a dozen elected to stay with friends or family. San francisco firefighters are now going back through the burned buildings trying to find some of the pet that is were abandoned. So, the seven day forecast shows the hottest days, the stretch will go from now to tuesday. Then the high will start to weaken for the end of the week. Setting up, San Francisco, not getting too hot. Should be staying in the 70s as things cool off thursday into friday. San jose, numbers near 90. Mid90s south of downtown. The trivalley, numbers staying in the 90s through wednesday. Thursday and friday, not just cooling. The high weakens and slides to the east. The low pressure may try to toss a few showers here from thursday to friday, north of sonoma county.
