I understand you spoke with a family member. Reporter yes. And the entire family is understandably devastated. I spoke with the brother of one of the victims. And he told me the couple was traveling with their three children, two girls and one boy, headed to a Holiday Party near las vegas. We now know jason thomas pride, his 41yearold wife, olga price, their 9yearold daughter olivia, 10yearold daughter mary, and 14yearold son john all died in the crash. The family took off yesterday afternoon from reidhillview airport in san jose. They were flying in this pane headed to henderson, nevada to attend a Holiday Party. The faa says the plane disappeared from radar around 4 00 p. M. Moments later, jason price is heard making a mayday call to air traffic control. Flight 402, may da, mayday, mayday. Say again . 402 saying mayday, mayday, mayday. Number 402. 402, mayday, mayday, mayday. Kern county sheriffs deputies say the plane crashed in an Almond Orchard about ten miles south of bakersfield, leaving a debris field a quarter mile long. We just try and do our best to either assess in the investigation and assist in finding what is cause so that these tragedies dont occur again. Reporter deputies pulled five bodies from the wreckage. The National WeatherService Report theres was rain in the area where the plane want down. The National Transportation safety board is now at the crash site, investigating the cause. And tonight relatives are left wondering how a family trip to share Holiday Cheer could end with so much grief. Radar shows the plane was traveling more than 250 miles an hour, considered extremely fast, when jason price called in the mayday call. First, lets go to meteorologist anthony slaughter who what is going on right now. Anthony . Reporter as you mentioned, terry, the rain has been coming down all day long. Here is a time lapse from ocean beach. You can see theyre out in the rain enjoying rain drops. Things started to clear out at the beach and even in San Francisco. Close to an inch of rain. Even in sausalito over mill valley, 2 inches. Mt. Tam got up to 4 inches. Santa rosa got a little less than 3 4 of an inch. Even over near moraga, a little less than that as well. The east bay and the south bay didnt see much in the storm. About a quarter inch or less. Even los gatos got about 3 10. Santa cruz, over an inch. So its still coming down right now in some parts of the bay area. And its light for the most part. And this is going to be just ready for the next round that is expected to move through the next couple hours. In fact, you can see that plume of moisture sitting off the coast. Thats our next storm system that is expected to move through as we head to the overnight hours. So your morning commute will be wet. In fact, well talk about heavy rain at times. Especially for the evening commute. Tuesday the rain sticks around. And then for wednesday, well dry out just little bit before another storm system pulls back by thursday. But it has been consistent. And this is what you get when the rain doesnt drain off. The sidewalk you can see here a completely under water. You see the street there lots of standing water. And the rain, it isnt done. The rain made for tough driving in San Francisco. There was standing water. And on the roads, traffic was slow. In marin, the chp saw an increase in spinouts and crashes. Another thing were dealing with right now is debris washing down on to the roadway dow to the rain. Because its been so dry, we have a lot of debris on the hillside. And it was busy, as Shoppers Look for the lastminute holiday gifts. At Sports Basement mere the presidio, the weather drove customers in to shop. Row name it. If its related to snow, flying off the shelf. Reporter chris is a manager and says rentals and sales are doing well. Skis and snowboards just is the start. A lot of people havent skied or snowboarded in two or three or four years. So theyre coming in and they want all new gear. From helmets down to the socks to bass player, everything. New at 11 00, a possible explosive device found inside a richmond home, and it may have been intended for muslims. The neighborhood evacuated while they detonated the device. On thursday police got a tip about a man who said he wanted the harm muslims and may have some sort of explosive at his home. Detectives followed up this morning and they found a suspicious device. The bomb squad was called in. I just everybody back, and i sat down, disarmed it and put it in a box, put it in a car. It was like a little pop. That was basically it. Police let everyone back into their homes shortly afterwards. No one was hurt. They made one arrest, 55yearold william kelly. Developing story on the las vegas strip. At least one person is dead, 36 injured after a car drove up on to the sidewalk and plowed into a crowd of tourists. It happened just a few showers ago right in front of the paris hotel and casino. Police say the woman behind the wheel drove into people on the sidewalk, went back into the street, and then back up on the sidewalk again before driving away. Officers caught up with her a few blocks away. Police say she had a 3yearold in the car with her. And right now theyre testing to see if she was driving drunk or possibly even did all this on purpose. The strip is expected to be closed for most of the night. The search is on tonight for a ford suv that police think could be involved in a hitandrun in fremont. It happened Early Saturday Morning at the intersection of fremont boulevard and paseo padre parkway. Police say two men were walking in crosswalk when they were hit by a car. The driver fled. Police found debris from a 1998 ford suv at the scene. The victims are both in the hospital tonight. One is expected to survive. The other is in critical condition. Police have identified the man killed in a car crash into the oakland estuary. 31yearold jeffrey hardt died yesterday when his suv plunged into the water. Witnesses say he was speeding when the car jumped a sidewalk, crashed through a railing and went right into the water. It happened near knob hill foods. And cashier brian work theres, dove into the water. I go in and i cant even see my hand. Its too dark to see anything. I go in there and try to find something. And im finding absolutely nothing. The emergency crews arrived, the rescue swim were the Alameda Fire Department was able to find hardts body and pull him out. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. A man left for dead after a fight overnight. Tonight the Alameda CountySheriffs Department is looking for whoever is responsible. This morning firefighters were at the scene cleaning up the streets in front of the simms custom cycle shop near hayward. Police say there was some sort of event going on there last night, and a fight broke out. And then someone started shooting. When police arrived, they found a man dead in the street. Right now police are not identifying him and they dont know who the gunman. Child molestation charges against a former youth pastor . The east bay. Gabriel lopez, seen here is accused of molesting two girls. The victims told police it happened at a Student Program in hercules where he was a volunteer pastor. Both victims also attended the high school in crockett and lopez was a Volunteer High School football coach there. Police think there may be more victims. Clipped wings on the runway. Morgan radford, nbc news, los angeles. Its a fake. Thats what investigators are now saying about a suspicious object that forced an Emergency Landing overnight. It happened midair aboard an air force jet flying from mauritius to paris. They found what looked like a bomb in the bathroom. They made an Emergency Landing in kenya. Nearly 500 people were evacuated from the plane on emergency slides. One passenger said many of them didnt know the real reason for the evacuation until it was all over. We didnt know what was happening, actually. And so we said we had to land in mombasa because we had a technical problem. But actually it was not a technical problem. Authority says the fake bomb was made out of cardboard and some kind of household item. Six passengers are being questioned by kenyan authorities. No word yet on any arrests in that case. The Holiday Shopping rush is on. Stores and malls were packed this weekend. More people seemed to be waiting until the very last minute. And temperatures are cool back into the 40s and 50s. And again, showers in each and every location at the north bay to San Francisco, even down into south bay this evening. Were looking at those showers. Tomorrow when we wake up, well have a few areas of rain. But its really going to get going. Tomorrow temperatures stay cool. Mid 50s across the entire bay there is a system sitting off the coast lynn, expected to move in overnight. Showers are expected to be heavy. This is 4 00, 5 00. Were talking widespread rain from the north by down to the south bay. And it could be pretty heavy at times. Even through the afternoon hours tomorrow. Another round moves back in. Especially for the evening rush hour commute. And then we do this all over for tuesday. Morning rain and then well clear out by the afternoon and evening. Wednesday looks to be the dry day if youre trying to sweep in some lastminute shopping. Rainfall amounts with the first system pretty decent. Well didnt see much in the south bay or the east bay. But were really going to get our chance as we head towards monday and tuesday. Were talking the potential of maybe over an everything at the valley floor. San francisco, you could see up to average. And same deal for the north bay, over an inch. Of course this is the time of year when we talk about winter weather. Winter weather advisory and storm watch and warning. From weakness to strongest. What we have happening now, well, a winter storm warning. Thats in place for the sierra. And that is in effect for tomorrow, 10 00 in the morning until tuesday alten 00 in the morning. So this is where we can expect om treacherous travel. The potential of over two feet above 7,000 feet. So definitely want to make sure you pack those chains. And definitely make sure you have an emergency kit this time of year. Because you know the weather can be more erraticerratic. Snowfall amounts from 12 inches in heavenly up to 34 inches in twin bridges. Even kirkwood could get over 2 feet of fresh snow by the time we get into wednesday there is another storm system expected forbe wednesday. Its just going to continue. Were talking rainy days. Snowy days for the sierra. And its going to be cold. Temperatures in the 60s by tuesday, falling back into the 50s by wednesday. There is a friday. But then by thursday and friday, were talking 50s across the bay area. And friday morning, if we have enough residual moisture left in place, we could be talking about the potential snow on mt. Tam. Snow levels could get as low as 2,000 feet. Which mean the Oakland Hills could have some snow by christmas morning. Yeah, i got to do this. Mt. Diablo, 3,000 feet. Snow there. We combed through thousands of unruly passenger complaints over the years ranging from everything from smoking in the rest room to charging the cockpit. We discovered that the numbers of these complaints have actually gone up over the years, but enforcement of the rules remain stagnant. Allowing some rowdy passengers to actually walk free. 218, emergency. Stop it reporter Airline Passengers out of control. Stop touching me stop it please contact Law Enforcement personnel. Reporter according to the airline industry, its a growing problem nationwide. Ow reporter here in the bay area you. Could smell the alcohol kind of wafting up. That was very strong. Reporter rowena still remembers the fear last october when her pilot diverted a flight from san jose to dallas after a drunken passenger threatened their safety. Kind of pointing his finger pretending it was a gun at people. He had to be restrained the whole way. Reporter their crew restrained the rowdy man with the help of another passenger before landing in phoenix before the pilot addressed the cabin. He said someone on the plane is being unruly. They would rather spend the night in a phoenix jail than continue on to dallas. Reporter but instead of a jail cell, that unruly passenger spent the night in a hotel. All because American Airlines declined to press charges. That passenger was then free to fly the next day. We ask American Airlines why they released the passenger. A spokesperson for the airline told us they do not comment on legal matters. I was surprised. I was really surprised that it kind of sends out this message he is going to tell his friends hey, i did this. Nothing happened. We have an emergency. We had a passenger becoming violent, he is going to kill himself and kill everybody on board. Reporter as it turns out, stories like these appear to be more common than you might think. Federal law bans interfering with a flight crew, but airlines are not required to report rowdy passengers to the faa. While its unknown exactly how many of these incidents go unreported, nasa does maintain a database where crewmembers can anonymously report incidents that are not officially reported to the faa. Thats where we found complaints of passengers smoking 6 assaulting flight attendant, even having sex in the rest room. In 2001, nasa received a sharp increase in the number of complaints while the numbers by the faa show a decrease by more than half in enforcement. Its a rare context in number of flights but its a growing problem. Reporter harry flint with says his organization has seen an increase in unruly passenger complaints around the world. He says often the incidents that have no repercussion. Right now too many times on an International Flight a passenger is disruptive, the passenger walks away. Reporter flint blames a loophole in jurisdiction that allows some passengers to walk free when disrupting flights to other countries. The air Transportation Association wants to encourage nations to adopt new standards that would give authorities more enforcement power. Just make sure that passengers understand that unruly behavior will basically wind up being brought before a court. Reporter federal Court Records show that from 2001 to 2014, only 11 of the cases to the faa rise to the level of criminal prosecution. Those odds apparently dont discourage some passengers from bad behavior. Its kind of an exciting experience. Reporter bill kessler owns the milehigh club, a website that allows travelers to brag about their inflight sexual exploits. We wanted to know why a growing number of passengers choose to disregard security protocols to join the milehigh club. Its not legal. I think that probably adds to the mystique. Because of the potential for being arrested. Reporter if prosecuted, unruly passengers can face up to 25,000 in fines and potential jail times. A penalty rowena would like to see more widely enforced. I think an airline, you dont mess around. Its not a place to mess around. Reporter we also talked to some commercial pilots and flight attendants about all of this. And while they did not want to go on camera because of their jobs, they did say that these disturbances have increased exponentially over the last few years as more and more people fly commercial airlines, and as airlines try to cram more and more passengers into planes to increase the income from each flight. Charges will be coming in the next few hours. Well, tonight the search for a teenaged fugitive. The fbi thinks he is getting help. Ethan couch received only ten years probation after killing four people in a drunk driving accident in 2013. Now during the trial, a psychologist testified that couch suffered from affluenza, and that his millionaire parents had coddled him to the point where he could no longer differentiate right from wrong. Police havent been able to find him. Ever since video surfaced showed him allegedly partying, which is a violation of his probation. The u. S. A newborn wild otter pup surprised workers when it showed up at the great tide pool just over the past few days. The mother and daughter spent much of the day feeding and grooming the pup. Thats pretty cool grooming. That includes puffing up the little ones fur so the baby will float. We saw yesterday and today, we pick up some good amounts across parts of the north. Sausalito over half an inch. Same for mill valley. Petaluma close to that. Santa rosa a little less than 3 4. Across the east bay and south bay. Barely anything. Hayward just over a quarter of an inch. Same deal for los gatos. But everywhere in between, the trace of mountains. You head towards santa cruz and monterey. Cap toll lab, from half an inch to a little over an inch in santa cruz. So the good news is that its still coming down right now. And the showers are going to continue overnight. Theyre going to be on and off. Nothing is really heavy until about after midnight. Right now were looking at light showers each and every microclimate location looking at this from the south bay into San Francisco. Even across the north bay right now. As we move through the day tomorrow, were going to see limited sunshine. So thats going to mean for a great day. On and off rain, very heavy rain at times. Temperatures in the mid50s for tomorrow. So here is what you can expect as we move through this upcoming week. Tomorrow the next storm system pushes back into the region that will be with us through tuesday. So its a twoday event. Monday and tuesday both look to be wet. By wednesday, well clear out just a little bit. Until more rain pushes back into the bay area, just in time for Christmas Eve. So here is our next storm system making its way across the pacific right now. You can see that large area of moisture stretching out ahead of it. Thats the rain that is starting to develop. And thats what were expected to move through tonight, again after midnight. Futurecast around 4 00 in the morning shows the heavier rain for the east bay down towards the south bay. This is right as the rush hour gets going. At 11 00 well see a if you areas of scattered showers. But again, its going to really start to move in across the north bay. Pretty heavy at times. Then by the afternoon and evening commute, more rain pushes back into the bay area. Were talking widespread rain by the evening hours. And thats going to be with us through Tuesday Morning and well clear out by tuesday afternoon. We have a couple of rounds of rain to get through before were actually done with this first system that is going to be done with us by tuesday evening. Thats how much rain were expecting from the first. Over an inch from the south bay. Even San Francisco getting close to an inch. North bay were talking about 1 to 2 inches. Maybe even 3 inches across some of the higher elevations. As far as snow goes, we have winter storm warnings posted for tomorrow through tuesday. Were talking anywhere from 1 to 2 feet of new snow at the lick level. So terry, here we go. tis the season. Arena and snow for the bay area. As you mentioned, friday morning snow levels down to 2,000 feet. If we have anything less on the the rain, it could turn into snow by friday morning. Something to watch. Absolutely. Reporter desperate to save mais life and the babys, they chose surgery and later chemo in the third trimester, a decision supported by a new small but encouraging discovery. Find nothing harm to the babys heart or brain, even after powerful chemotherapy. If you wait until the second and third trimester when the organs are developed, the birth defect rate goes down to what we see in the general population.
