Just minutes before 3,100 athletes were about to swim in lake tahoe for the ironman race this morning, organizers made this announcement. The air quality officials have recommended that the event be canceled. The king fire created air so bad, the race was canceled. Some wiped away tears. Others reflected on their loss of time and money. I came up here early to acclimate from sea level. Ive been training for a solid nine months. Andy has trained eight hours a day for the last eight months to prepare for the swim, the bike ride and 26. 2 mile run. For the middle school teacher, the canceled race men a canceled dream. High pressure, temporarily builds. As we get to wednesday well see it approach the coast. The winds will pick up and it looks like wednesday flight into the first half of thursday. That will be when the cold front sweeps through. It will bring the most widespread chances. During the day thursday well see the most widespread showers tapering into friday. Then well see things clearing as we head toward the weekend. The latest projection on the rainfall estimates look to be highest in the north bay. The areas south of san jose may not see all that much. The totals are pretty impressive. Nice bullseye. Four inches around eureka. The north bay, perhaps as much as a third of an inch or 3 4 of an inch of rain toward santa rosa. A tenth of an inch or less. We get these rain totals at the beginning of october. So maybe a bit of an early start to the rainy season. Well take what we can get. And whats left will taper off into friday. Another thing youll notice, the first week of fall will be some falling temperatures. You will see these numbers drop off. Very likely the warmest day of the week will be tuesday with temperatures rebounding into the mid and upper 80s. Then cascading down for the second half of the week. Well see the same around los gatos. Then the wettest day of the week for the south bay should be about thursday. Then the numbers starting to rebound as we head toward the weekend and San Francisco. The temperatures not changing a whole lot. Temperatures near 70. Cooler and breezy as we get into wednesday and thursday. Some cooler temperatures. And the nights, too, toward next weekend. We could see some low to mid 50s by next week. It will feel more like fall in the next seven days. Close to 80 degrees. We see the brief warmup. The rain chances increase. It was the Constant Contact over a fiveweek period and a facetoface interview. I had three separate phone interviews and a skim interview. It was very highly detailed. Reporter mark showed us the course work, online tests and emails, unlike most internet scams, there were no obvious time typos. They offered him a side kick to earn 300 a week. His job . To buy pricey laptops and ship them to the company in ukraine. Blue line assured him it would fund his account first. They werent asking for personal information. So i felt safe about that. Reporter mark said Blue Line Network never asked for his Social Security number or his financial information. Instead the company said it would authorize mark to transfer funds from its account to his own personal credit card. When those funds cleared, all mark had to do was use his credit card to buy apple computers. I called both banks and straight up asked them 100 . Is this money if my bank . Yes, sir. The money would not clear if you were not an authorized person. It on there. Legitimate. Reporter the problem is after mark bought the computer, then shipped them overseas, the funds from blue line disappeared. Leaving him with more than 32,000 in credit card debt. Im like one step away from bankruptcy because of this situation. Reporter you think they were exploiting a loophole. Yes. We asked the credit card companies, bank of america ask usaa about their policies and why mark was sold money in his account was okay to spend. In an email, bank of america wrote, we have no way of telling if the funds are good until we receive payment from the payee account which can take several days. If the payment is returned for any reason, the customer is responsible for the full amount. Usaa said such crimes show that all consumers need to be extremely wary of offers to make money by paying for goods for someone else. So theyre exploiting this, these days where it takes to process a check. Ralph processes crime. He says crooks keep finding new ways to take advantage of banks processing times. You can see the focus north of mend scene over county. Meantime, probably about a tenth of an inch of rain. With the add lift of the santa cruz mountains, we might see a half inch of rain. Maybe an inch around the santa cruz mountains. If youre in the low lands, the valleys, probably not seeing a lot. But the coast could pick up an inch or so of rain. Well see highs in the 80s. Close to 70, you will see the temperature in the upper 70s, maybe some low 80s. Some things begin to cool down for the second half of the week.
