He tells me that his sister in law is in cabo tonight with eight of her friends on vacation. With the airport shut down they have no idea when theyll be home. We just have to stay off the roads. Were running out of food and supplies. Another storm is coming. Theres no activity at the airport. The whole thing collapsed. This is just one of the Text Messages gavin lau got from his sisterinlaw, who is stranded in Cabo San Lucas because of hurricane ode yooel. Theres no running water. Theyre staying in the ballrooms and also the conference rooms. Reporter slamming ashore with 125mileanhour winds, the hurricane ripping through the normally peaceful resort, bringing with it nearly a foot of rain in just hours. A category 3 hurricane when it made landfall. Winds peeled back roofs. Heavy rain filled streets. And power is out in most of the region. Laus sisterinlaw and friends are hunkered down in a hotel near the airport. Were the only ones way generator that might die soon. This hauteling is the only one that has communication. Reporter because the airport is closed, people are thinking ahead. We booked a hotel room so we can be at the airport anytime there might be a flight going so we can be on standby. Reporter tonight there are reports of looting in baja. Overnight 164 shelters in cabo were prepared to take in 30,000 people. Floors were jammed, hallways and basements packed. Some rode out the storm in stairwells. Lau says he just wants his sisterinlaw home. Just getting her back in one piece. I dont know how long its going to last. This is crazy. Reporter Alaska Airlines here in san jose had one flight to cabo today. It was canceled. In fact, Alaska Airlines has four flights per week to cabo. They tell me they have no idea when flights will resume. Reporting live in san jose, im cheryl hurd, nbc bay area news. Thank you, cheryl. We should note the weather is improving. But the damage there is significant. Our chief meteorologist jeff ranieri is with us. And jeff, this is not just impacting mexico. That wet weather is spreading. Yeah. And well talk about those impacts here in just a minute. But i should also say that a category 3 hurricane is not just a strong storm. It is considered a major hurricane. So korea, its strong for california standards, but on the world scale of things this again was a very potent blow to Cabo San Lucas. Right now it has weakened to a Tropical Storm. Winds at 65 Miles Per Hour. We think it will stay a Tropical Storm at least for the next 24 hours heading off to the north, slightly to the east. By tomorrow morning winds at 50 Miles Per Hour. So again, continuing to weaken. As we head into wednesdays forecast, winds at 35 Miles Per Hour weakening down to a depression. But heres the problem. Its going to be heading right into arizona. At this point as a tropical disturbance by thursday, thats where the worst flooding threat will be. If you are headed that way to arizona, thursdays going to be the day to watch out. Check out the flash flood watches. It basically covers almost the entire state of arizona where they could get anywhere from one to three inches of rainfall. I did want to send a warning to anyone in california. If youre doing any traveling near palm springs, youve got interstate 15 and 40, those could be some major arteries that could also have some effects from this storm system. Ill have more in our forecast in about ten minutes. Well see you then, jeff. Were tracking breaking news out of Northern California as well. The tiny town of weed at the base of mt. Shasta is under siege from a growing wildfire. More than 1,500 people, half the towns population, have been evacuated. The fire has damaged or destroyed more than 100 homes so far. It also burned the towns catholic church. Now, the boles fire is burning about 70 miles north of redding. Its in that city of weed. I5 has been closed. Its only 15 contained for that fire, but firefighters say they have slowed down the progress of this blaze. The fire east of sacramento has doubled in size tonight. It has burned more than 8,000 acres. This is in el dorado county. Its only 5 contained. 500 homes are being threatened by the flames. There are 11 major wildfires burning in our state right now. New tonight at 11 00, a terrifying ordeal plays out for an elderly couple right inside their own home. Both in their 90s were bound and beaten by robbers that they willingly let in. Nbc bay areas tkimberly tere i live in el cerrito to describe how the man and woman talked their way into that house. Reporter jessica, the police say the suspects took advantage of the couples kindness, befriending them one day before they attacked and robbed them. Police say a couple in their 90s was severely beaten inside their el cerrito home saturday afternoon. Just getting out of the shower the other night, saturday night. And my doorbell rang about ten times. And i thought, oh, no. Reporter a neighbor who did not want her face shown on camera says the wife came to her house for help. There was blood. And it was so sad. I just felt so bad for her. Reporter police say the ordeal started friday when the pair of suspects drove up and befriended the wife by complimenting her garden. Eventually, they were able to work their way inside the home, and according to police took off with a wallet, cash, and jewelry. The robbery was never reported, and a little over 224 hou4 hourr the suspects returned once again talking themselves inside. Zplt female says something to the male and at that point the attack starts. The male begins to pummel and punch the 90plusyearold male. And at the same time the female suspect does the same to the female, to the wife. Reporter police say the woman was also stabbed with some sort of metal object and beaten when she tried to call 911. Who what kind of person would do that . Reporter according to police, the suspects took off with the couples safe. Unfortunately, they picked very nice people and they just completely exploited their kindness. And i dont let anybody in. You know, i think that was their mistake. They let somebody in. Reporter police say that the male suspect does walk with a limp. And according to police, the pair were talking in a language the victims could not identify although they were able to tell investigators it did not sound like spanish or any asian dialect. Also new at 11 00, ak saigsz of hazing involving a High School Football team. Police in livermore have arrest twoday players at Livermore Valley charter prep. Both of these players are accused of holding down a teammate and shaving part of his head. Police say it happened last week inside the locker room. The suspects are 17 years old and have not been named. Now, both face misdemeanor charges. Police say the victim, a freshman, was not physically harmed and there could be more arrests. Well, the controversy in the nfl is spiraling tonight. Adrian petersons attorney is blasting new reports that the star running back may be involved in a second child abuse case. A houston tv station reports that last year peterson was the subject of an abuse investigation involving another one of his young sons. Petersons Attorney Says this new allegation is simply untrue. Also tonight, the Radisson Hotel chain has suspended its sponsorship of the minnesota vikings. As for the team, the vikings reinstated peterson this morning. Three Senior Executives for pg e are out of a job tonight, pushed out for a questionable relationship with p. U. C. Regulators. Pg e launched an internal regulation at the city of san brunos request. The probe revealed emails between those executives and top state Public Utility Commission officials. In the emails they discussed how much the state should fine pg e for that deadly san bruno pipeline explosion. We took Decisive Action today. There is a disconnect between facebooks policy and how things work in the lgbtq community. Reporter San Franciscos supervisor david campos is not only concerned about drag queens but also others who want or need to use a name other than their legal one. There are people who might be closeted who for Different Reasons may not want to use their name. Reporter heres what facebook says. If people want to use an alternative name on facebook, they have several different options available to them. Including providing an alias under their name on their profile or creating a page specifically for that alternative persona. As part of our overall standards we ask that people who use facebook provide their real name on their profile. People that have, you know, gone by their drag name for their entire career, theyve accumulated all these friends on facebook. And if you have to create a separate page, youre starting from scratch. And thats not fair. Reporter a protest scheduled at facebook in menlo park tomorrow apparently has been postponed because facebook executives have agreed to meet with drag queens, Lgbt Community meb members, and supervisor campos on wednesday to sort this out. They simply want the rules that facebook wants to be in place to be respectful and cognizant of who we are as a community and who we are as people. It happened near manrisa state beach at watsonville. Warning signs are up in santa cruz after reports of a shark attacking a seal. A surfer says he was about 50 yards from the shore at manrisa beach when he noticed a huge shadow under his wife. Thats when he says a 15foot great white shark knocked him off his board. Then he says the shark came out of the water, taking a bite. It rolled up on top of my board. He dragged me under the water for about five seconds with the board. And actually, somebody else told me it was about ten seconds. Browning says he was still tethered with the board so when the shark began to swim deeper it pulled him underwater for a few seconds, as you heard. He was not hurt in that attack, though. Most of the peninsula also looking great. Eightmile visibility. And over toward San Francisco we all have areas of fog but its pretty patchy at this time. Lets get you into tomorrow mornings forecast. Now were over the hump of monday we can get you full into the swing of that work week. You can see as you head out tomorrow morning weve got sunny skies expected in san jose. A real excellent start here. Throughout the peninsula well get some patchy fog to develop. That will help temperatures to start at 58 degrees. Also some fog in San Francisco. And youll need that light jacket up into the north bay with temperatures beginning in the mid 50s. So after starting off with a lot of 50s in the Morning Hours check out how much temperatures are going to rise by the afternoon. And our microclimate forecast tomorrow, weve got 84 in saratoga for the south bay, and it will still be a warm yun in morgan hill with 90. But san joses going to get a decent breeze off the bay. That will keep her temperatures at 81. Palo alto along the peninsula jumping up to 80. Some clouds at times but sun by the afternoon. Most of San Francisco will stay in the 60s. If youre headed to downtown, well pop up at 71 right along soma. Get you to the north bay, east bay, and trivalley. One of the warmer spots tomorrow in the north bay will be napa at 87. And it will be cooling down for us in sausalito. With 74. Also tomorrow with some cool air aloft the trivalley finally out of the 90s. Were going to go with 87 at danville and well have 88 in pleasanton. Lets get you to the larger changes in the forecast. After weeks of High Pressure sitting atopical cal blocki calg any kind of storm system well see that beginning to change. Low pressure tomorrow bringing back some fog to the immediate coastline. But most importantly, eventually later on this week two different storm systems lining up by thursday to bring us the possibility of rainfall. So lets go ahead and take a look. And anytime we look at any kind of rain estimate you always want to take it with a little grain of salt. Again, its an estimate. It is not an exact forecast. We try to find two things close yuf for you. And you can see by wednesday at 6 00 p. M. Were starting to see the possibility of some rainfall into the north bay. Thats where that green is depicting. Then as we advance this into early thursday morning youll start to see some of these numbers pick up here. Well have the best chance through about 10 00 a. M. On thursday for possibly a tenth of an inch in the north bay. But you can see little to nothing down in the south bay. Maybe only 1 100 of an inch. The same for redwood city and also for livermore. Yes the possibility of rain as we head out wednesday night and thursday morning. Its just not a large storm system. It will at least help our immediate fire danger. You can see by this weekend sunny skies return and temperatures in the 80s. I dont know, raj and jess. Just even a few raindrops after the drought were in. It almost seems like a big storm.
