Attacks again. Theyre looking for the wild animal in the hills of cupertino near pachetti winery. Thats where the mountain lieupon pounced on the boy leaving him with puncture wounds. Its a good thing the boys family was there to rescue him. Reporter as you mentioned that boy out of the hospital, very lucky to be okay tonight, jessica. And you can see that trail is closed as wardens just up the trail will be starting their search first daylight. But of course with Mountain Lions being nocturnal they could indeed meet one tonight. This is an exclusive photo of that little boy just moments after being attacked and terrified by that Mountain Lion. You can see the wounds on his back. Now, more than 24 hours later, the search heating up. The hiking trail near the fichetti winery in cupertino is shut down where that attack took place. The search on for that Mountain Lion in hopes to trap it. The Mountain Lion is mulling around in the area specifically. And it feels very comfortable in that specific area. Reporter at least four game wardens will be spending the night after setting traps, trying to cage the cat. But it may be a tough search. Mountain lions, theyre territorial animals. So they tend to have a very large territory. Reporter dr. Yang is with the Santa Cruz Puma project, which is dedicated to studying Mountain Lions. She says an adult males territory could be up to 100 square miles while juvenile Mountain Lions tend to roam, which is the case when one wandered into urban mountainview recently. And while she couldnt say for sure why this attack took place, she says a childs height makes them more susceptible to an attack. Generally, Mountain Lions hunt deer primarily. If you think about how tall a deer is, its about three or four feet tall. So kids, even those again, though extremely rare, they are more similar in size to the prey species that Mountain Lions are more used to. Reporter still, she says mauling a human is almost unheard of. Way more uncommon than even shark attacks. Reporter and dr. Yang says while its not incredibly common Mountain Lions can have rabies and with that Mountain Lion not actually caught at this point its still unclear whether or not that little boy will have to undergo incredibly painful shots, that rabies shots actually entail. Im derek shore, nbc bay area news. Quite a scare for his family. Thank you, derek. New at 11 00, an experienced pilot from san jose died at the Reno National Championship Air races today. Lee behel crashed his experimental plane during a qualifying race this afternoon this afternoon at Reno Stead Air field. It appears the plane had a catastrophic mechanical failure. Behel had been involved in air races for more than 20 years. The 64yearold also a retired Fighter Pilot for the Nevada Air National guard. Now, the reno air races are set to continue as scheduled, opening to the public on wednesday. Now, this is not the first deadly accident at the reno air races. You remember this. Back in september of 2011 a plane crashed into spectators, killing the pilot and ten people on the ground. Another 68 people were hurt. It was the worst u. S. Air show disaster in 40 years. Well, a few years ago ray rice was one of the best players in the nfl, helping lead the Baltimore Ravens to a super bowl title. Tonight hes out of a job after chilling video of race beating his then fiance surfaces. Now, we need to warn you the video is violent, and some viewers may find it disturbing. It was taken back in february at the Atlantic City casino. It shows rice there punching his fiance in the elevator and then dragging her unconscious body out. The couple has since married. Now, the nfl originally suspended rice for two games for this incident. And that drew a lot of criticism for being too lenient. Now with the release of the video the team had no choice but to release rice. The nfl also showed followed by suspending him indefinitely. When someone that you care about does wrong and is faced with the consequences of doing wrong and rightfully so, it is tough. It is hurtful. And my pain is for both of them as a couple. You know, and going forward, my hope is that they can make it work. Reporter now, rice had 10 million left on his contract. He will not be receiving any of that money. The white house released a statement tonight. Well, from iraq to San Francisco, the Extremist Group known as isis is reportedly now threatening to kill twitter employees working in San Francisco. A twitter account purported to be linked to the Islamic State said it is time to respond to twitters management by directly attacking their employees and assassinating them. The account had more than 3,000 followers. Isis, which has claimed responsibility for beheading two american journalists in the middle east, is reportedly issuing the threats because twitter has been shutting down terroristrelated accounts. Twitter has since suspended the account and opened an investigation. No word yet if the federal government is taking this threat seriously. Well, now to developing news out of Yosemite National park. What youre looking at is gopro footage shot by a hiker evacuated from half dome because of a fire nearby. You can see smoke billowing from that fire in the background. 100 people were shuttled by helicopter from half dome to safety. Trails in the area are now closed, but all roads are still open. Firefighters think the fire was sparked by a lightning strike. It grew overnight from just a few Hundred Acres to nearly 3,000 acres. Now, some of the hikers are telling the harrowing tale as the fire turned their climb into a race against rapidly moving flames. Nbc bay areas Terry Mcsweeney joins us with the story youll only see on nbc bay area. And what a story they have to tell. Reporter and theyve got some spectacular video to show us as well. These six hikers, two of them from right here in daly city, took off yesterday to go to the top of half dome in yosemite. It was going to be a spectacular view up there on top of the world. But then you mix in the meadow fire and then you mix in two frantic women from sweden. Yes, you heard me correctly. And youve got a day to remember for all time. Hiking up half dome. For these friends it doesnt get any better than this. And early yesterday morning on the way up a ranger had assured them that smoke in the distance should not be a concern. But hours passed and the meadow fire exploded. And then we saw the fires kind of skip down to the valley area, take a big leap down there. That was kind of when we started thinking this might be something to consider and worry about. Reporter after getting these amazing pictures up top, the men headed back down. And thats when it got really interesting. When youre up on top of half dome, you look down and you see oh, thats a fire over there. But when were walking and we see the skies darken and the winds blowing our way, so we were a bit concerned at that point. I didnt know about the evacuations. Reporter back up on top of half dome, dozens of hikers were being flown to safety. Whenever were heading down the trail i guess two or three different helicopters kept flying over really low, right above the trees, flying over our heads. I was kind of wondering what was going on. Maybe they were just checking out like the fires spread. Reporter deer were now running from the flames, and so were some people. At one point we saw two swedish women like sprinting and frantic. And they stopped and talked to us for a second and asked why we werent running down the mountain. And like in all of our perspective we kind of thought it wasnt a very serious thing. Reporter these men may have been the last to actually hike off of half dome, and they say even if they had been forced to get into one of those rescue helicopters and fly off that would have been fine too because they were looking for an adventure and boy, did they find one. But experts for the centers for Disease Control are looking in the bay area we havent had any cases of enterovirus d68 identified. Reporter the fact that the virus hasnt been recorded in the bay area yet has Infectious Disease specialists like Samantha Johnson of Childrens Hospital oakland worried. If we start to see children with similar symptoms such as severe respiratory compromise with what seems like what starts as a common cold, we will be sending samples probably for specialized testing. Can i take a listen to you . Reporter there is a severe outbreak in the state of colorado. Its so severe there have been 900 cases in the state last month. No deaths, but some children are so sick theyve put in intensive care. Ben york never imagined his son matthews late summer cold could end up with a trip to the emergency room. He was coughing. He had a runny nose. Within eight to tenhour time period it went from a cold to him not being able to breathe. Reporter so what is enterovirus 68 . Its worse than a bad cold with these symptoms extreme trouble breathing, severe cough, wheezing, fever, and rash. Infants, children, and teenagers are most vulnerable. Johnston says parents here in the bay area should be on the lookout. It can be shed in respiratory secretion but also in the stool. So parents changing the diapers of their children for example should be washing their hands with soap and water after diaper changes for at least 20 seconds. With the threat of evd 68 looming parents should be asking whether their Childs School is also equipped to handle a serious asthma or food allergy attack. According to a new study, only one in four students actually have an Emergency Health Management Plan in place with the school staff. The author of the study, a pediatrician from northwestern, says schools need to work with parents on that plan and it should include information on medication and what to do in case of an emergency at school. Well, could it be terror in the air plane food cart . A warning that airlines could easily suffer a Security Breach at food entry points. Thats the finding of a new study. It found that one in four Airline Catering workers believe unauthorized people can easily get into kitchens and trucks. It also warns that someone could stash Dangerous Items on a food cart. Well, a slowmoving family pet is missing tonight. Napoleon the tortoise somehow escaped his back yard, was picked up by strangers, and then put in a car. All of it caught on video. Now the question is was it a petnapping or wellintended tortoise rescue . Nbc bay yars ian cole with the search for napoleon. Reporter surveillance cameras caught this slow animal make a quick get away in san jose yesterday. Its weird hes not here. Reporter the tortoise is two feet longb 50 pounds and his owner says appropriately named napoleon. Because he likes to charge at people and hes like really territorial. Reporter a family member, she says, who attends all their Family Functions and also escaped out of the back yard through an open gate yesterday when everyone was out of the house. She thinks napoleon was looking for some grass to eat. When i had a lawn, he was the lawnmower. Now because of the drought i dont have a lawn anymore. Reporter the video shows a passerby stopping, moving the tortoise out of the road so he wouldnt get hit by a car. So that was a relief. Reporter people stopping to take pictures but then a couple picks napoleon up and puts him into their car. The owner hoping they had good intentions. I dont know what theyre doing with him and where he is now. I kind of wish they had knocked on the door or something. Reporter she posted on social media, called around to local shelters, but no word yet. Now hoping napoleons adventure will loop back around. Numbers will be hovering around 52 degrees. At 7 00 also, 8 00 in the morning. So you probably will need some sort of jacket again. A little bit of a light breeze. Its going to feel like the 40s. Well have fog in San Francisco. And for the east bay and peninsula areas of gray clouds to begin.
