Firefighters say fireworks sparked flames on a hillside behind middle school in antioch. The fire only burned one acre, and it didnt threaten any homes. But it is a good remind theyre fireworks are illegal in contra costa county, as well as many other bay area counties. Closely tracking that ongoing fire in napa county. Crews are still trying to keep flames from reaching hundreds of homes. The wildfire has now grown to 3800 acres. And its still only 38 contained. Already two homes have been destroyed, and firefighters are battling the wildfire now for 24 hours plus. Tonight some People Living near the bay area estates which are being threatened only two miles from the fire lines say they had to leave some precious things behind. Animals had to be taken somewhere else. I had to leave some animals. And i had to open a door and just hope that theyll survive and be there when i get back. Governor brown has secured federal money for help to contain this blaze. The federal grant will partially reimburse fire agency for their costs. Chief meteorologist jeff ranieri has been tracking these conditions since yesterday. And jeff, earlier today we were talking about these winds elevating a little bit. We are seeing a little bit of a concern with the wind. But really, right now this is the prime time for those firefighters to get the upper hand on the fire after temperatures that were in the 90s today. Were starting to see them drop into the 60s. Also added moisture to the atmosphere. Right now humidity values instead of in the 20s like we had today, its up at 79 . A fairly light wind southwest at 8. But it is gusting to 14. So its not an overly gusty wind. At least even into tomorrows forecast. But the thing that were tracking is a predominant wind will be out of the southwest. Were going to get a little bit of winds throughout some of the canyons here near the fire. And thats going to stir up and make a very erratic wind pattern. Were going to have two different kinds of wind directions moving into the fire. For napa county fire tomorrow, a little bit of a shred of good news. Were not expecting any kind of wind forecast that would push winds over 30 Miles Per Hour that should help with some of the air drops for tomorrow. But it is going to be extremely dry. Low humidity, 20 to 30 . And temperatures at 90 degrees. It is worth noting that right now the july fire threat has come in from the national inner agency of the fire departments. And right now we have a significant wildfire threat that will continue through the rest of the month. All right, jeff, thank you. Happening now, roadwork on a stretch of 280. Right now that part of 280 is closed and it will stay closed through the holiday weekend. This is right near at t park. Late tonight caltrans closed northbound 280 from the 101 split leading right up to the ballpark. That means significant traffic delays heading into San Francisco this weekend. So be prepared. Nbc bay areas jean elle joins us from the closed portion of the freeway. Jean . Reporter raj, no traffic up here right now. Just lots of heavy equipment. Take a look. Caltrans isnt wasting any time. Theyre already hard at work up here on the northbound lanes of the 280 extension. Now caltrans did the same work in may in the southbound lanes. And that closure caused lots of traffic on city streets. This time with the northbound lanes closed, drivers can expect some gridlock. Traffic on northbound 101 in San Francisco is notorious. I hate 101. Too much. Too much. Too much traffic. Reporter drivers on this slow snake through the city are about to get even more company. Caltrans is closing the northbound 280 extension until monday for repairs. We can replace a section of freeway the hinge, where two sections of the overpass structure come together. And after 50 years, its become fairly worn. Reporter the concrete is crumbling. It take crews several days to demolish and then rebuild the road. Giants fans will have to use alternate routes to get to thursdays game. Opera in the park saturday night here. Kim was thinking about driving in saturday. It will be a mess. Maybe we should take the train. Reporter she is considering public transit, because thousands of drivers who use the 280 extension will be forced on to city streets or 101. The new rules now limit parking to three hours when there are events at levi stadium in santa clara. Mountainview residents must also get permits to park on their own streets. Levi stadium opens next month. Play ball or dont. A deal between the city of oakland and the as is expected to fall apart tomorrow. Some Board Members from the Coliseum Authority have been directed by the city council to reject a tenyear lease deal, which has been in the works for months now. The council wants better terms and more money from the team. If that deal does fall apart, the as will stay in oakland at least another year and a half. Thats when the teams current lease expires. But after that, the as would be free to move. On friday, several Board Members boycotted a vote on the deal. Meantime the teams owner says he is done negotiating. Theyll be back tomorrow. Jurors for the bryan stow civil trial told the judge theyre at an impasse. But judge wants them to keep trying for a verdict. Stow was nearly beaten to death after a giants dodgers game in 2011 after dodgers stadium. His lawyers are suing the team for negligence and say the dodgers didnt do enough to keep their fans safe. But theyre asking for more than 50 million for stows care and damages. A peaceful end to a tense standoff in mountainview tonight. A man barricaded himself inside of an apartment complex on williams way. This was right off el camino near highway 85. The standoff lasted several hours, but ended in the 6 00 hour. Officers responded to a call about a depressed man. When they arrived on the scene, they found a man armed with a gun and holding his 13yearold daughter inside of the apartment. Officers got the girl out safely and evacuated units in the building and nearby homes. A not guilty plea that from the bay area man accused of hosting a prostitution website and moneylaundering operation. In court today, prosecutors accused him of operating my redbook. And now you can add free medical marijuana to that list too. The City Council Approved an ordinance that requires pot dispensaries to give away some of their stash to low income patients. Cheryl hurd is live in berkeley tonight with more details for us. Cheryl . Reporter free marijuana for the poor for those who need it because theyre sick is getting some pretty good review here is in berkeley tonight. But there are concerns that come along with it. Weve got 70 reporter edical cannabis can be expensive. So 50 price range. Reporter if youre considered very low income, have a medical marijuana card, and you live in berkeley, it can be free. The medical Cannabis Commission came up with a whole series of regulations to make cannabis regulated and taxed. Reporter and Berkeley City Council wanted it to be socially responsible. So last night councilmembers voted unanimously to approve an ordinance that requires its three medical marijuana dispensaries to give away 2 of the amount of cannabis they sell each year free to low income patients. The question i would have is what is low income. Reporter the answer to that question, 32,000 a year for an individual or 46,000 for a family. Councilmembers are working on how to verify eligibility. The most solid, easy proof is your tax return, if you file a tax return. Reporter the Berkeley Patients Group already gives out free cannabis to the poor. Its something its done for the past 15 years. Sort of a cruel thing that when you are really ill and you do have a serious illness, its often hard to work. Kit be hard to maintain a job. And when that happens, your finances suffer and you cant buy the medicine you need. Reporter almost everyone we talked to about the ordinance thinks its a good idea. I think its a great idea. I hope they give to it the people who absolutely need it. Reporter the ordinance has to go through another reading. It could become law in august. Bound flights. Homeland security announcing today that extremists who are now fighting in syria could slip on to a plane heading to america. New intelligence has revealed that extremists are working with al qaeda to create bombs that cannot be detected at airports. Passengers are likely to see more random patdowns and screenings. I think the threat that we see today coming out of syria and iraq is as dangerous as anything we have seen since 9 11. These groups are committed. They have people. They have people who can travel to the west. And unfortunately, they are likely getting the technology that gives them the capability to attack aircraft. This is not affecting any of our bay area airports. Only airports overseas. A river running right through the isle. Thats how a passenger described an australian bound flight after a pipe burst. A burned out food truck and people pulled from the flames. Tonight were getting our first look at the aftermath of the huge explosion. Last night we showed you this dramatic Security Camera video of that food truck exploding in philadelphia. Now cell phone video shows the smoldering truck and passerbys pulling two people from the truck. More than a dozen people were injured including the mother and daughter who work the truck. Theyre among the five people still in critical condition. Witnesses say it was pure chaos. The next thing i know, a big boom. Smoke, screams. Something ill never forget. A girl was walk by and her whole back got sprayed with debris. And she was screaming all the way up the street, im on fire, i want my mom, i want my mom. Reporter a significant leak was found in one of the trucks propane tanks. New video, the latest addition to the downtown san jose skyline. And it is breaking records. Its the longest crane in north america, according to a spokesperson with the Santa Clara County superior court. He says workers are building at the site of the new Family Justice Center courthouse. They started working on it last year. Crews have blocked two blocks of market street, which are now closed. Thats to allow workers to bring in the crane and set it up. Lets bring in our chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. Talking about our microclimate forecast and the one thousand firefighters in napa county right now working on that blaze. Right now, raj and jess, this is the critical time to take advantage of the weather conditions that usually turn to the better in the nighttime hours. Weve seen that right now. Decent recovery from the 90s today, down into the 60s. The other thing to note that firefighters always look at on the ground is the humidity level. Even at night, you can still have some fairly low humidity. But right now with the predominant wind coming out of the south, its importing some cooler pacific air which is moisturerich. So weve got a humidity level of 79 . And, again, that is also helping. Well have more in the full fire forecast coming up. I do want to take you outside to the Sky Camera Network right now. You can see we are socked in with quite a bit of cloud cover for parts of the bay. Some of the clouds moving in throughout the peninsula. Also for the east bay and overcast sky. The thing to notice in San Francisco that wasnt available in last night is the fact that our downtown sky camera pointed towards the embarcadero. You can actually make out the streetlights. So yes, we have some fog. But it is not as thick as it was this time last night. So probably going to bode better there for your weather on tomorrows forecast. Lets get you into the morning hours. You see for tomorrow we are going to see most temperatures start off in the 50s for the most part. I think some of the coldest weather will be right there in the north bay with 52 degrees expected. And again, the fog in the morning for San Francisco. Low clouds for the east bay. But the best start will be in the south bay. Mainly clear conditions, and 57 degrees. Now, we talked about the fog that were going have in the morning hours. But well good ahead and show to it you on the futurecast. You can see again at the immediate coastline. It is going to be thick here. Covered from point reyes, down to santa cruz. Very typical and low clouds inland. The thing to know about tomorrow, were not going to see it clear entirely. It will stay at the coastline. Very typical for july. But the thing to also notice, if youre anywhere inland, you start off, you wake up. You got the clouds. Youre kind of bummed out. By the afternoon the sun is going to come out. It look likes a great way coming our way. The sea breeze staying consistent. Take a look at san jose adds we head throughout thursday. 81 degrees. And you had a little bit of way, just 15 to 20 minutes. The thermometer is going to shoot up in saratoga. Morgan hill around 85. For the peninsula, the warmest spot palo alto at 78. San francisco staying in the 60s. Its going to bounce around a little bit here from the embarcadero, 62, to the hayes valley, 65. And probably close to 70 expected around the mission. One of the hottest spots of San Francisco. And you can see here throughout the north bay, east bay and trivalley. Another round of mid80s throughout livermore. 70 in oakland. Head back towards walnut creek, another day with 84 degrees. And up into the north bay, napa 85. You head more to the north and pope valley where the fire. Winds will likely be near 20 Miles Per Hour. And a little bit hotter with temperatures expected again at 90 degrees. All right. Lets fast forward. Things get right into the fourth of july. British and french authorities are look into whether the social network broke any laws when it performed a psychology experiment a few years ago. Facebooks coo is facing criticism for her apology today. This is an experiment that was done for research. It was done years ago, and it was communicated terribly. Really terribly. And for that communication, we have apologized. We never meant to upset anyone. Some critics felt it wasnt a sincere apology that was sheryl is anberg who said facebook takes privacy and security seriously. In 2012, facebook changed the news feeds of about 700,000 users to test their emotions. The social network says its in its terms of agreement it clearly states the research was within its right. We have breaking news to share with you out of campbell there has apparently been some sort of explosion in a backyard fire pit. Ian, tell whats you know. I and jessica, were at cambrian way and breyerwood way. You can see firefighters still on scene here. A Santa Clara County fire battalion chief just told me that six to eight minors were injured in this backyard fire pit explosion. Two of those minors were transported to a local hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. The other minors had minor injuries and were allowed to be picked up by their parents. The details surrounding this explosion are not clear at this point. Fire investigators are on scene. Theyre investigating as well as there are several officers from campbell here as well. But six to eight minors injured. Two sent to the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. Jessica, back to you. All right. So at this point, thank you, ian. At this point its not clear if that fire pit had a gas line, or if were talking about a more portable fire pit with a propane tank attached to it.
