And joins us now with whats unfolded so far. Karen . karen castro attorneys representing two families say ccsd failed to notify the parents. After one of two victims reported the bullying to school administrators. They alsol investigation all which they say is against the law and school policy. During Opening Statements, attorneys laid out a 6month timeline of when the bullying occurred. The two young victims were then 6thgraders at greenspun middle school. One of the boys testified shortly after School Started in august of 2011, another boy began calling him homophobic names in band class. The student had long hair at the time. The young victim said he was called in to talk about it but his parents were never notified and his bully was not disciplined. Meanwhile, he said the name calling escalated to physical aggression. At one point the victim says his bully stabbed him in his private parts with a pencil and told him he wanted to know if he was a girl or a boy. The victim said he never reported the stabbing incident because he was afraid. Attorneys said the second victim was being bullied after he tried to stand up for his friend. On one occasion, the bully hit trombone. Attorneys say it got so bad, the second victim was contemplating suicide. attorney what was your plan . Victim i was going to drink cleaning chemicals. karen castro the defense says this is not a case of bullying. They are arguing the plaintiffs attorneys didnt set out a case for discrimination based on perceived sexual orientation, as stated in the lawsuit. They say the school never knew boys never reported it to administrators. In fact, they say School Leaders could not act on something they didnt know was happening. Both boys testified in court they met with the dean multiple times and said everything was fine although at least one bullying report had been filed and one parent had emailed the school about the pencil stabbing incident. karen castro the victims families want ccsd to improve its antibullying policies and better notify parents. The big question what will happen to the animals . Christianne Klein nye county sheriffs officials tell me the animals including three tigers are at a sanctuary and will not be harmed. 34 year old trisha meyer was arrested on an unrelated felony warrant out of Harris County in texas for burglary and theft. Ive been told no charges have been filed yet in nye county. And she will be extradited to texas to face charget neighbor tipped off nye county sheriffs officials that three tigers were in the backyard of a residence on manse road in pahrump. Law enforcement found these exotic animals which require a special condition animal permit loose in the backyard surrounded by a four foot fence. They were being supervised by a 17 year old. Authorities also found eight monkeys at that location. Meyer did not have a permit here in nevada and just two days prior to her arrest las vegas headed to pahrump with illegal tigers in her possession. Nye county officials met with her at that time, she told them the tigers were still in texas and officials did not find any exotic animals on the pahrump property that day. Again that was just two days before the discovery and arrest. Christianne Klein i talked with nye county officials who told me they have other residents in the county who possess exotic animals including tigers but again those owners must apply for and receive a special conditions animal permit. They tell me they lk based on a felony warrant. Denise Valdez again. That case is in nye county. But here in clark county. There are set rules for owning exotic animals. This time last year commissioners went forward with changes to whats called title ten. At the time. All you needed was a special permit to own an exotic pet. But changes were made. Making it illegal to own pet tigers, bears, chimpanzees and other dangerous or wild animals law went into effect were allowed to keep them as long as they had a permit and agreed to inspections. Folks in support of the law used cases like the chimpanzees that escaped a Las Vegas Home a few years back. And the little boy who was nearly sufficated by a large python. As examples of why it was necessary. Dave Courvoisier a local womans car was crushed by a streetlight falling over right outside her home. No one sh it simply fell over due to rust. So whos responsible for the damage . Turns out. The victim. When this street light crashed onto her car. Even the Insurance Company was shocked the county wasnt liable. But a law on the books since the 60s trumped anything anyone thought. In fact. Just hours after the crash occurred. A rep from the county allegedly told the victim. This whole incident. A typical day . Melissa chattin recovering drug addict i was in the bathroom. I was in the bathroom, my kids knocking at the door. Me putting my kids asleep and then me going out all night. with no job she says she still supported her habit. melissa doing things that people shouldnt do. Things that i regret now. elizabeth i didnt have a dime to my name. And i dont think, not to say that im proud of this, but there drugs. elizabeth you find out who your dealer is gonna be. Family. elizabeth i told my grandchildren that if they knew people who kids at school who did drugs that they werent allowed to be around those type of people because if you keep going to the barber shop, sooner or later, youre gonna get your haircut. And my grandson turned around and looked at me and he says well grandma, i cant see you anymore because you do drugs. the group. graduation sound .
