Intelligence suggesting terrorists have obtained Airport Security screening equipment and may be use it to figure out how to sneak explosives into Electronic Devices and past Airport Security. The specific devices in question that were talking about here are laptops, tablets, anything bigger than a cell phone really and the chief concern here is that technology is now being shared among terrorist organizations on both developing these types of devices and getting them past Airport Security. New u. S. Intelligence suggesting terrorists obtained Airport Security screening equipment. Sources familiar with the matter telling abc news this in efforts to test their ability to conceal explosives inside Electronic Devices and avoid detection. We dont really know what level of technology isis may have gotten its hands on. But if it was around an airport that they may have captured either in syria or in iraq, it probably wasnt cutting edge and its probably not the same level of capability or sophistication that you would find in a western european airport. Reporter the latest in the wake of officials recently banning electronics bigger than cell phones from the cabins of jetliners flying from eight middle Eastern Countries including several allies. A response to intelligence suggesting isis is developing new explosives small enough to place inside electronics. What theyre trying to do here is put a bomb in a laptop so that when its xrayed, it doesnt appear like theyve taken out the inside of the laptop and just packed it with explosives. Reporter the department of Homeland Security saying in a statement, evaluated intelligence indicates that terrorist groups continue to target commercial aviation. We use a robust Security System that employs multiple layers of security, both seen and unseen. U. S. Authorities conducted a series of tests to evaluate intelligence. They took action based on ongoing concern isis continues to be focused on developing ways to smuggle explosives onto commercial airliners, dan, cecilia. Gloria, thank you. Yeah, with all of these questions swirling, the ranking democrat on the House Intelligence Committee visited the white house to review classified documents, this as the president s former National Security adviser is now seeking immunity in exchange for testimony in that russia investigation. The ranking democrat on the House Intelligence Committee was at the white house friday reviewing the same classified documents his gop counterpart was shown in secret last week. Afterwards democrat adam schiff had a cordial tenminute meeting with the president but said he saw no reason the documents were shared with the republican chairman and not the full committee. Republican devin nunes has been under fire all week for his unusual white house visit, but nunes insists the committee is not getting distracted. So, well continue to investigate russia. Its long been a focus of ours and that hasnt stopped despite what you may see on the national media. Reporter former National Security adviser mike flynn says hes eager to tell congressional investigators everything he knows about russian meddling in the 2016 election, but flynn wants immunity. Lock her up. Yeah, thats right. Lock her up. Reporter during the campaign flynn took a harsh view when several clinton aides reportedly got immunity to testify about Hillary Clintons email server. When you are given immunity, that means that youve probably committed a crime. Reporter candidate trump clearly agreed. And if youre not guilty of a crime, what do you need immunity for, right . Reporter on friday President Trump ignored questions about flynn. Were you trying to tell the Justice Department to grant immunity to Michael Flynn . Reporter the fact that trump tweeted that mike flynn should ask for immunity led to an obvious question. So does the president think that mike flynn is guilty of a crime . I think he believes that mike flynn should go testify. He thinks that he should go up there and do what he has to do to get the story out. With or without immunity . Thats up to him and his lawyer to decide. Reporter flynn has ties to moscow, but one of Vladimir Putins closest aides told George Stephanopoulos theres no smoking gun. Are you concerned about anything he might say about his contacts with russia . Any blamings that russia could have been interfering in Domestic Affairs of the United States is slander. Reporter now, at bottom the Russian Investigation is looking into the possibility that there were conflicts of interest and overnight the white house sought to clear up any lingering questions about financial conflicts of interest releasing Financial Disclosure forms for many of the top staffers who are collectively worth about 12 billion. Lets start with general flynn. If he testifies do we think he possibly could do some real damage to his former boss . It depends on what he knows and what has, in fact, happened and we really dont know the answer to that. It is amusing that everybody is able to pull out these quotations from both the general and the president about immunity now that apparently his lawyer is asking for it, but, look, mike flynn was the First Casualty of this administration and he probably is not very happy with his former boss. Hey, cokie, lets talk about that press conference, the press briefing yesterday. One of the stranger ones in recent memory. Sean spicer is not backing down from the president s wiretapping claims. And this while they cant pass health care, so are they stepping on their own agenda here . Well, cecilia, as you well know youre usually in those briefings they can be quite bizarre. But the fact is that the agenda is a mess. And the president trying to go after members of that conservative Freedom Caucus and the house of representatives totally backfired. They all essentially, you know, gave him the bronze chair and said, you know, have yourself a ball. Were going to do what were going to do, and you also have this ongoing russia thing that the Administration Just simply cant seem to admit happened. So, you had yesterday the spectacle of the secretary of state and the secretary of defense talking about the russian incursion into our election and the white house just led by the president continues to back away from it. And its working to some degree. In a poll this week 75 of republicans said they didnt believe the russians had interfered in our election despite everything said by the Intelligence Services and the president s own cabinet. Cokie, let me ask you about something david wright reported a few minutes ago. Overnight the white house releasing these ethics filings for senior officials showing that we have some pretty rich people in the administration. Very rich. Yeah, in particular we learned that ivanka trump is going to keep a stake in the Trump International hotel right there in washington and that her husband, jared kushner, has held on to much of his real estate empire worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Does this open them to conflict of interest complaints . Sure. They will be very much subject to those and the size of their wealth is somewhere around 700 million apparently. But i dont think, again, that this is something that youre going to hear a lot of voter complaints about. Everybody knew that the trumps were rich. They didnt seem to care that that was an issue and the fact that the president has surrounded himself with very rich people, several of whom might have conflicts i dont think is something youre going to hear a lot about from the voters. Can you believe this is april 1st and were talking about a major winter storm across the northeast . We had snow, weve had sleet, some rain mixing in now but colder air certainly will turn this all over to snow and you can see this Winter Wonderland behind me across parts of new england. This is a huge, sprawling storm that had all sorts of weather from snow, sleet and rain to Severe Weather too. A late season storm springing up from pennsylvania to southern maine. The northeast getting pounded with heavy, wet snow and sleet. Our underground utilities working out in this wet mess hoping i can get it done before it all picks up. Reporter this storm wreaking havoc for drivers as salt trucks and snowplows take to the road. The snow turned to all sleet at sundown and its accumulating on the roadways. Even the interstates are slick. To the south the warm sector of the system bringing Severe Weather to virginia. Strong winds, hail and a tornado in the town of chesapeake ripping this church in half. Debris hanging from trees littering the field across the street. Well, its hard, but you take a shot in the gut and then you just bounce back. Reporter the same storm tearing through virginia beach. Damaging 50 houses there. Over 30 residents displaced from their homes. Trees split, fences uprooted along this virginia street. Chimney is completely off. A hole is inside the siding. House is missing. Fence is down. Its just overwhelming. That was day three of this Severe Weather event, which is what we expect to be talking about when we get into april, Severe Weather but here were talking about the snow. It was 20 years ago today we had the great april fools snowstorm across the northeast, 20 to 30 inches falling then knocking out power. Thankfully it isnt that kind of storm but it is significant and we might see some power outages. Lets go to the maps. Winter weather warnings and storm warnings out for boston included and where im standing right here, a lot of rain across i95 but well bring in that colder air as that coastal low develops and that will change to sleet and over to all snow over the next several hours. Thats where were see more in the way of accumulation and this will get out of here as we go on through time. Another 5 to 8 inches of snow in spots, could see over 10 inches at this afternoon, temperatures well above average, san francisco, oakland, 74. Inland areas we warm up to the low 80s, like napa, santa rosa as well and lake port. Heres the accuweather 7day forecast. We are warmer than average. It will be a touch cooler tomorrow. Mild and then a chance h and once this winter storm moves out, we have another threat for Severe Weather. Significant one today, tomorrow and again on monday. Were going to begin in atlanta with an arrest in connection with that massive fire that caused the collapse of a bridge over a major interstate highway during fridays rush hour. Police arresting 40yearold basil eleby charging him with setting fire to Construction Material stored under that bridge. Two other men were taken into custody but later released. The collapse causing a traffic nightmare that could last months, if not years. In texas, new details emerging about that deadly headon collision between a pickup truck and a church van that killed 13 people earlier this week. Investigators saying a witness who called police to report the accident said the pickup driver told him he had been texting while driving right before that crash. That driver was injured in the collision. And in south america breaking news overnight from paraguay where angry protesters you can see them there taking to the streets after the senate votes to allow that countrys president to run for reelection. The demonstrators ransacked the Congressional Office and set fire to the building. Paraguay has banned its president s from running for reelection after a decades long dictatorship ended in 1989. And the fda is issuing an alert, a consumer alert affecting the lifesaving drug epinephrine. 13 lots of epipen and epipen jr. Are being voluntarily recalled by the manufacturer. This following two reports that the pens failed to activate. Epipens are used to treat lifethreatening allergic reactions. The recalled lots were distributed between december 2015 and july 2016. And tiger woods will not be playing in this years Masters Tournament later this month. Woods saying he is just not ready after being idled by back spasms. This morning, confirmed sighting, new photos of the tennessee teen and the teacher accused of kidnapping her hundreds of miles from home. It was good to be able to see her face. Reporter a tip leading investigators to this walmart in oklahoma city. In these new surveillance pictures you can see Elizabeth Thomas and tad cummins with new looks. Tads gray facial hair now brown. Elizabeths hair, now a darker red. Very importantly, though, this is the first Proof Positive weve got that tad did abduct her and they were traveling together. Reporter the two disappeared more than two weeks ago after another student reported seeing 50yearold cummins, a teacher at the high school, kiss thomas. The 15yearold last seen early monday, march 13th, a friend dropping her off at a restaurant. Later that same afternoon investigators say a cell phone ping places them in decatur, alabama. More things coming together for a significant Severe Weather outbreak including strong tornadoes, houston to lufkin to lake charles, a moderate risk already issued by the storm prediction center. That is rare and that threat will push off towards the east. Well see a lot of rain and some areas its needed across parts of oklahoma and texas, maybe some flooding across parts of arkansas. Then getting into georgia and tennessee. You need the rain as well so youll take that and snow across parts of the west.
