The parents of the victim say they are relieved now that they dont have to live in fear anymore, and as for those injured officers, theyre in stable condition, and they are expected, thankfully, to make a full recovery from that. Thank goodness for that. Boy. Such a busy area too. Uhhuh. Were going to get the latest now on the New Hampshire teenager missing for nine months, suddenly returned home last week. A suspect has been arrested on kidnapping charges expected in court this afternoon. Abcs ryan smith is tracking the case from conway, New Hampshire. Good morning, ryan. Reporter good morning, george. Today the man accused of kidnapping Abigail Hernandez will be arraigned in this courthouse. On monday he was arrested in a local trailer park. Police telling residents to stay inside as s. W. A. T. Teams desc d descended on their property to take into custody the man behind the disappearance. They say. This morning, 34yearold Nathaniel Kibby is sitting in a jail accused of felony kidnapping in the disappearance of Abigail Hernandez. Prosecutors saying he confined the now 15yearold girl with the purpose of committing an offense against her. What offense is still unknown. According to abc affiliate wmur, kibby kept a storage container that some are referring to as an aboveground bunker in his backyard. I havent noticed anything unusual. Reporter overnight hernandez who disappeared nine months ago saying in a statement, its an incredible feeling to be home, and i believe in my heart that your hopes and prayers played a major role in my release. Officials say a traumatized hernandez, who family says is malnourished and unable to eat solid foods, is now helping investigators piece together clues to understand where she has been. Kibbys neighbors are shocked wondering if abby was held in that storage container all along. I would hope that she cant be that close and nobody knew it. Reporter those clues leading them straight to kibby in the town of gorham just 34 miles away from her familys home. Hernandez initially thought to be a runaway until her mother received a letter from her in november. It was really just numbing for the first maybe three weeks, four weeks and then i received a letter and it was like exhilarating. Someone may now be manipulating her and her safety is still absolutely in question. Reporter last sunday after nine long months of searching, hernandez returned home. A family friend was with abby and her mother when they learned of kibbys arrest. Now they can finally get to some closure. Now they just get to be the Hernandez Family again, and they havent had that for a long time. Police still arent revealing the details of the alleged kidnapping or how Abby Hernandez came to be reunited with her family but more should be revealed today at the arraign many or at the press conference scheduled to take place later today. George. Okay, ryan, thanks. Lets bring in our chief Legal Affairs anchor dan abrams and these kidnapping charges would hold even in abigail originally chose to go with the guy. Yeah. We dont know thats the case but it really wouldnt matter. Bottom line is under the law in New Hampshire, if he knowingly took away, enticed away, even concealed a child under the age of 18 who hes not related to to keep that child away from her parents, that would be the crime of kidnapping. But it could be relevant if he brought her back. Thats right. If, if, and its a big if, if he brought her back in a safe place and and this is the biggest if there wasnt serious Bodily Injury, that would that would be the big debate. That would be the big debate. If that were the case, returns her to a safe place and no serious Bodily Injury could be talking about taking it from a class a felony which would be 7 1 2 to 15 years to a class b felony of 3 1 2 to 7 years so the law is specifically designed to entice someone who engages in a kidnapping to return someone safely to their home. Again, we dont know and based on the condition shes in, i think there would be a real question as to whether there was no serious Bodily Injury. The details that come out today could be key. And there could be additional charges. Dan abrams, thanks very much. Lets go to amy with the other top stories. Good morning, everyone. And we begin with the story breaking overnight. Running on your treadmill may be as beneficial less running on your treadmill may be beneficial. So we got dr. Richard besser to tell us, is this true . This is very surprising. They followed 55,000 dulls for 15 years and they found that those who ran were 45 less likely during that period to die from heart disease, 30 less likely to die from all causes, but the surprising thing was, it didnt matter whether you ran 5 minutes a day or 30 minutes every day. What . At a hard speed. It didnt matter. If you were a runner, you got the benefit. So for me now i can cut back or actually i need to add five minutes a day to running for myself . We were talking we dont like to run, but the thing here is at the start of the segment people who run in general, they were healthier, there were less smokers, they were less obese so theyre healthier people, but the exciting thing here is its showing that any kind of exercise has some benefit, that you dont have to exercise like you in order to get some health out of this. But just very quickly, to runners out there who are watching this morning, they can cut back a little bit and still have the same benefit. I wouldnt say cut back. Id say the couch potatoes who are saying, i dont have 30 minutes a day get up and do something. Anything. Just so i nknow i havent wasted all that time pounding the pavement. Explain what this study shows. So finally maybe some consolation. This affects as many as 85 of pregnant women, but this me too, amy this was a massive study looking at several smaller studies, and they found that women who experience morning sickness of unclear severity, so anything from a little bit to a lot, had some significant associated findings. They had a lower rate of miscarriage. They had less preterm delivery. They had less babies with birth defects, and, very surprisingly, they had babies with higher iqs later on. Now, we have to remember this was an association. It didnt explain why, so it was not cause and effect and, particularly important, these findings were most significant in women over the age of 35, so a blessing in disguise. Yeah, and if youve ever had morning sickness, it is, as you said, a consolation prize, but still it doesnt it doesnt hide the fact that its tough to get through. The mouth shape, approachability. A lot can ride on a single selfie and here are some of the specifics from the study. Up next on our heat index. They say all is fair in love. But the Popular Online dating site okcupid is causing some outrage because its admitted that it has been lying to some of its users. Abcs Mara Schiavocampo is here with that story. Good morning, mara. Reporter amy, good morning. Okcupid has revealed its been conducting secret experiments on its users without telling them including turning matches into mismatches misleading users about who theyre actually compatible with. While okcupid says all of this helps them better understand how online romance works not many users are in love with the idea of being used as human guinea pigs. Finding love is hard. Thats why so many people are heading to Online Dating like theodore in her. So that means shes funny and brainy. Reporter but now one of the nations most popular dating sites is admitting it set up customers with bad matches on purpose. Okcupid posting this controversial blog monday titled we experiment on human beings. Not exactly what you want to hear when youre trying to find your match. I absolutely think that this violated the trust of users. Reporter but okcupid says there was a method to its mismatch madness. The company says it took pairs of daters who rated 30 combatable based on okcupid questionnaires and told them they were actually 90 combatable. Resulting, they say, in some of those couples exchanging more messages. That message turned into a conversation about twice as often when we told them that they were a good match. Reporter then they did the cupid shuffle and told people who were actually good for each other that they had little chance of being combatable. But by what some people may call the power of love they still seemed to find each other. We could take two people who are right for each other and say, no, theyre wrong and end up messages much much as we let them in on the truth. Reporter this isnt the first time they performed an experiment of love, in january of 201 they took away everyones photos. The results fascinating. People responded to first messages 44 more often. Conversations went deeper and Contact Details were exchanged faster. However, when the photos were restored many of those conversations came to a halt. As for this latest experiment, not everyone is thrilled. Its a little like offputting. You need to choose a site that wants to protect you, not betray you. Reporter but okcupid insists its arrow and ethics are not broken. Now, okcupid did tell their users about the experiment after the fact. A lot of people have actually compared this to what facebook did last month when they manipulated users feeds to see if emotions were contagious. We should point out that okcupids user agreement does say your data can be used in research and analysis. If you believe in fate like i do, maybe that mismatch, the experiment, is what leads you to your perfect match. They probably learned a lot through that. It might have led to dates or love. Opposites attract and then they attack. Just saying. Wow wow. I never heard that quote before. So beautiful. I share it with you all. More words of wisdom from lip gloss to office tips, now we continue with some love. In the heat index there is just no question about these two. Yes reporter but just before this happy moment a surprising twist, andi sending the other remaining contestant nick home before he even had the chance to propose. Im sorry. God, wow. Thats so [ bleep ] up. Ive been such a fool. Reporter after the finale a heartbroken nick confronting andi live and face to face for the first time as we learned he made several failed attempts to see her after being sent home. There was really nothing wrong between our relationship except Something Else was more right. Its hard to hear that, you know. Still, nothing could spoil that final moment. I am madly in love with you. Reporter josh standing out from the crowd even as the last man out of the limo on the very first night. You look absolutely gorgeous tonight. Thank you. Reporter but there were types when andi was afraid to trust the former pro athlete. I said more time thinking what could go wrong than what could go right. Reporter in the end, though, the choice was clear. Josh would make andi a bachelorette no more. All right. Id like to introduce you to the future mr. And mrs. Josh murray. Come on out, guys. Last night, it was wonderful to see the love, it was also uncomfortable as a fan of the show to see nick did not seem to take it very well. Yeah, i mean thats always a tough part. I think thats kind of the nature of the beast with the show like i had to break up with 24 guys in order to get the one i really wanted and needed but its always a little uncomfortable when you have to watch the breakups and talk about them for everyone i think. And we teased at the top of the show. That letter. Yeah. That letter. Can we finally talk about the letter . Yeah, i mean theres really not much to talk about. You know, its obviously something i read. But, again, its like im very happy in my relationship. Kind of like reopening the past that doesnt need to be reopened but, you know, weve moved past that which is nice. Does the atlanta factor play in . So nice former athlete. He an athlete. They both live in atlanta. I was like can we just wrap the show up . I feel like it was a disadvantage because coming into the show im like i want to move somewhere. Im getting out of atlanta so i think it was a disadvantage to him in the beginning. Now its obviously an advantage. Yeah. So first thing you guys want to do now that you can be can stroll the streets and not be undercover . Just walk around. I mean go back home, walk my dog. Piece of pizza would be heist. We can make that happen. Were in times square. Exactly. Have you given any thought to the wedding . I mean a little, yes. I know we would like to do something in the spring. But i think for now its like i finally got the engagement ring. Im just going to enjoy this for a little while. Nicely done, my friend. I try. Its beautiful. You did very good. Do you sort of have the same ideas . Are you in sync on that. I think were thinking about next spring. Give each other time to enjoy the engagement. She wants to plan everything. And, amy, i see thaw got a couple of stars and i told the girls over here, i would say, dane, they want to say hello. Ah, yes. Well, let me introduce them. We have dane dehaan and aubrey plaza. They both star in the new film life after beth about a young couple who finds out just how complicated love can be when one of them comes back from the dead as a zombie. But doesnt necessarily realize it. Take a look. Okay, okay. Oh, my gosh. Oh, my gosh. Lori, look who i found. Its beth. All right. Calm down, zach. What are you doing . Hey, i have that scarf. He ran around me. He made a joke and ran around me. What is going on here . What is going on here . Youre acting like a spaz. Its a little bit hard to explain. How could you do this to me, beth. You made me think hey, hey, she didnt do anything. Everything is normal. This just happened. [ cheers and applause ] and it is such a pleasure to have dane and aubrey here with us. I have to tell you, i am a huge zombie fan. I might be Binge Watching walking dead right now but this is a new twist. A zomcom. Dane, had you ever heard the term before . No, its not actually just a zomcom. Its a zomcomdram. Is that the way they sold it to you . Yeah, dream come true. Dream come what an allstar cast. You get to work with comedic greats. Tell me what it was like. I mean, you werent supposed to crack up, right . You were supposed to do it deadpan and seriously but it was actually really funny. Yeah, it was hard to keep a straight face, especially when i was a zombie. Dying slowly. Trying to eat people and eat their brains, but, you know, everyone was really professional. John and molly are such good actors, so we all kept it together. Dane, i mean, this is definitely a twist for you. Yes. How did it feel to do this romdramcomzom . . Yeah, it was a really different experience for me and thats why i wanted to do it. My first comedic experience, and i got to work with some of the great comedic actors of our time and, yeah, when youre doing a dramatic piece, a lot of times if you like feel like laughing, you just laugh, you know, but in this i felt like laughing the whole time but i wasnt allowed. And, aubrey, i mean, what is it like to play someone whos been resurrected from the dead yet is decaying and loves human flesh . Its amazing. I had a great time and it was really therapeutic for me because i got to kind of drum up all of my childhood trauma and physicalize it for strangers. And really this is a doover for you. As a couple, your characters get to try dating again after you thought she was dead. How did that work out for you . Well, you know, it has its ups and its downs. I think, yeah, the movie is kind of like a metaphor for a breakup. You know, in like the most dramatic of ways. Extreme hilarious sense that could be, and we go through a lot of stuff that i think people can relate to. Yeah. This is just its like when you try to get back together with someone, and you only remember the good stuff and then when youre with them, its a nightmare. Yeah, and you forget theyre actually a zombie . Yeah, and then they try to eat you. I cannot wait. That is the way to sell a movie. Dane and aubrey, thank you both for coming in. We appreciate it. And life after beth is currently available on directv. It will also be coming to theaters august 15th. Coming up, guardians of the galaxy star vin diesel is here live, and there he is in the twitter mirror. Stay with us. Burn bur vin diesel getting in touch with his inner tree if you can believe it for his latest film guardians of the galaxy. He plays a humanoid. No, you dont need to. He plays groot who joins a band of marvel misfitting including a talking raccoon in order to save the world. Galaxy. The galaxy. I mean bigger than the world. Hey. Because thats how you roll. Whoa. Everybody, heres this guy as groot, a man of few words. 12 . 12 . Ha, ha, ha, ha. Thats a fake laugh. Its real. Totally fake. That is the most real authentic hysterical laugh of my entire life because that is not a plant. Its barely a concept. Youre taking their side . I am groot. So what is better then 11 . Thank you, groot. Thank you. [ cheers and applause ] yes. Yes. A tree of few words. Vin diesel is with us and talk to us a little about your character groot. This is not your average superhero. He is not your average superhero. He is the strangest marvel character theyve ever attempted to put on film. Why did you want to do this . Because its i mean well explain. You have one line. I have one line. In some ways it was a huge challenge, ive been acting in these streets of new york since i was 7 and the idea of playing a role that is limited to only three words, three mono syllabic words was a challenge. The real reason i played the role was because when marvel gave me the book of conceptual art, i went home and showed it to my family and my 3yearold son when i asked, who do you think marvel wants daddy to play . My 3yearold son pointed to the tree. He did. Yeah. So you say one thing repeatedly. It means many things in the film. The line is, if you will. The line is i am groot. But the director would sort of tell you what it was supposed to mean given the scene. Can you explain how that worked. Well, i went into the adr booth and there was a 50page document and on the lefthand side it would say i am groot and on the righthand side it would have the sentence or the paragraph of what you would have heard if you could understand the nuances of the speech. But because it was hard in larynx, all of the oblivious could hear, i am groot. So given that we are going to play a little game with you where you are going to show us how this works. So, for example, if groot was trying to say, hey, come here often how would he say that. I am groot. And if he was going to say from famous line from iron giant. Whoo. Iron giant. You are who you choose to be. How would he say that. Groot doesnt recite iron giant lines that often. Its a guy. So is groot really but how about this, youll love this. Who loves you, baby . Oh, i love that. You know what shes doing. All of that know kojak know the tired old line and shes that hip to even talk about kojak. Because this guy you are bringing kojak back. Yeah all right. But before kojak is back Everybody Needs to embrace and love groot. Thats right. Guardians of the galaxy. Thats right. [ cheers and applause ] love it. Guys. Vin diesel. More, more, more. More, more. Emeril is here too. Oohlala did you hear about the whats that . Le ice cream man . He who loves eating monster who loves creamy delicious tillamook ice cream. whispering seriously . door creaks hes fast. Tillamook ice cream, tastes better because its made better. Oohlala time now for you send it, he cooks it. The he, of course, our good friend emeril lagasse. You tweeted us photos of your favorite summer grills up on the screen. Well show them right now and, emeril, you chose a couple of the favorites. Yeah. Right here. These are its amazing how many photos that weve gotten, george. But let me tell you, Sandra Miller from burlington, ontario, canada, these are double cut pork chops. Beautiful. Stuffed with goat cheese, sun dried tomato, lots of herbs. Absolutely delicious. And then we have terry from canneca canonsburg, pennsylvania, terri dowd. The thing that makes these ribs really great. She uses a combination of brown sugar, honey and sriracha. Hot and sweet. Thats good. So now im going to bring a couple of my grilling recipes. Chicken here. Backyard barbecued chicken. Real simple. So im using legs with the thigh attached and what were going to do is just going to brush them with olive oil. Real simple then well season them. The thing about barbecued chicken, especially on the grill, george, is that you dont want the heat too hot. Thats what i was going to ask. Whenever i do it, the skin sticks. If you get the oil and the thing is you have to preheat the grill as you can see, and what you want to do is you dont want to have the temperature so high because especially when you start applying the Barbecue Sauce to them, the sugar is going to burn. And thats what you got to cook it slow. Let them cook halfway then well start basting the Barbecue Sauce on them. We make a simple sauce with garlic and onions were caramelizing in here then well add cider vinegar and a little bit of h2o and basically now ive got brown sugar and tomato paste and then ive got crushed red pepper, paprika, salt, cayenne for a little heat, my essence and dried mustard. You never tell us whats in your essence. Paprika base, white pepper, black pepper, oregano and thyme and all together and we cook them for about maybe 20, 25 minutes. I think its kind of exactly. People should not be afraid to make their own Barbecue Sauce, it keeps well in the refrigerator. Simple to make and shes laughing over there. How are you doing . Im great. After the chicken, after the chicken is about halfway done, thats when you want to start applying the Barbecue Sauce to it. So you in thats a good step. Start brushing them and then they go on the grill. Okay. You turn them much or turn them over, george. Turn them over. Look at george going over here. Look at this. But you see, george, what happens is now that you turn them got to baste it again. Theyre not burring and now we baste them again and you want to get them to the internal temperature of about 160, 165 degrees for the perfect chicken. Tell us quickly about the shrimp salad. Okay, i will. Shrimp salad, summer green, avocado, citrus sections. Ladies, how is it . Is it good. I think ive eaten enough. You have pasta chicken. Not dry, right. Perfect. Juicy and delish. Great stuff, emeril. Look for more grill o grilling tips follow the twit ter handle emeril. Well be right back. Great rates for great rides. Geico motorcycle, see how much you could save.
