More than 50 Severe Weather reports just yesterday many coming from georgia up to pennsylvania. But its right here from South Carolina to Virginia Beach where we saw most of the damage and injuries. Inundating downpours. People taking shelter. It was crazy. Winds up to 70 miles per hour. The wind pushed them all the way across the street. Chaos in the midatlantic. And i saw my nextdoor neighbors third floor was gone. Reporter in Virginia Beach alone the severe storms injuring 11 people. Wind shredding homes and businesses tossing this mans car into the parking lot of this church. It was like a spin cycle. Everything in my car flying around change, money. Reporter crashing to the ground barely missing his car and this transformer. Pretty lucky to be alive. Reporter thousands waking up without power as crews worked overnight to restore it. The storms filling tunnels with floodwater. [sirens ] reporter norfolks harbor park and pennsylvanias hershey park submerged. Almost 3 inches falling in two hours. So today when you get the warning on your phone, you see that alert, warning means its imminent, it is happening or its going to happen very soon. And heres where you could see strong storms right along the front in the southeast and more so back here in the plains so north platte, rapid city, all in the orange, also a little bean up there in duluth could see the strong winds, large hail and, of course, a brief tornado. We were immediately sent to a shelter down in the basement, along with the other people on our airplane and our cameramen waiting outside, captured the rockets and the interception of those rockets by israels famous iron dome. Two dozen rockets fired today from gaza. One of them hitting a gas station. Theres also another milestone today, 100 palestinians have now killed in the conflict and david and robin. Now to the latest on that horrific shooting in texas that left six people dead, including four children. We are learning more about the suspected gunman and what may have been his motive. And the young survivor who made sure the bloodshed stopped here. Authorities say six members of this family executed simply because they wouldnt tell 33yearold ron haskell where to find his exwife. Tragically unthinkable. I just i dont even know if i still believe it. It feels like a bad dream. Reporter this morning, haskell who led houstonarea police on a chase. White male by the name of ron haskell. Hes considered armed and dangerous. Reporter ending in a fourhour standoff is charged with capital murder and dressed as a fedex deliveryman when he shot steven and katie stay. Along with their young children. Haskells ex melanie is katie stays sister and has been living out of state since the couple divorced on valentines day. Ron could instill fear in her. It was a horrific relationship she was going through and she had had enough. Reporter haskell had been arrested for assaulting her before and until last year had a protective order against him. He had pulled her by her hair and struck her in the head. Reporter his own mother got a restraining order against him just last week. Only one member of this family survived the rampage, 15yearold cassidy stay. Seen here with her mom in this facebook photo. Police say that haskell shot her too but she played dead until he left. Then called 911 to tell police he was headed to her maternal grandparents house to kill them too. Officers got there first. Her paternal grandparents who live in Southern California spoke with cassidy wednesday night. I said i was so sorry, cassidy, about everything thats happened but im so thankful youre still with us and she said my mom and dad are in a better place. Reporter cassidys maternal grandparents issued a statement calling her a hero and saying they were in awe of her bravery. Cassidy was grazed were told by a bullet in the head and remarkably, robin, shes expected do make a full recovery. She is remarkable. We wish her all the absolute best going forward. Were going to start in Washington State where evacuations are order the as a wildfire explodes in size. Now spreading to more than 28 square miles threatening hundreds of homes and buildings. One forecaster said the hot, dry conditions have turned the land into quote unquote organic gasoline and look at these pictures flames creeping within a few feet of families homes, a 30mile stretch of highway also had to be closed. Also breaking overnight, an American Airlines flight from newark to dallas had to make an Emergency Landing in st. Louis after a passenger made a threat reportedly on his phone, prompting another passenger to alert the flight crew. The man was questioned and cleared and the plane was grounded for an hour. Now to a big lawsuit that could have you checking your credit card statement this morning. Amazon is accused of billing customers millions of dollars for purchases made by their kids that they never authorized. My weekend gma coanchor Bianna Golodryga has details. Good morning. The issue here is did amazon make it too easy for kids to spend their Parents Money without permission. The federal trade commission is saying, yes, and theyre suing. Thousands of customers complained that while their kids played games or used apps on devices like the kindle fire they spent unlimited amounts of cash on socalled digital extras. For example, kids could buy virtual coins for this game called ice age village but buying these digital extras adds up to big money. They cost anywhere between 99 cents and 99 per piece and sometimes buying them was as easy as closing a popup window on the screen. Amazon says it changed its policies and now requires a password but the ftc says its too little too late and unlike apple which settled similar claims, amazon appears ready to go to court so this continues. This is an incredibly sad story, seven including three children were killed when this building in the city of lowell went up in flames. A Police Officer near dallas has survived a bizarre attack at a strip mall thanks to some good samaritans. A suspect she was about to arrest set himself on fire engulfing her in flames, as well. Surveillance cameras captured the officer rolling on the ground. You can see it right there. Bystanders rushing in to help and one guy took off his shirt to put out the fire. One of the big challenges for athletes in this world cup has been the heat but what theyve had to deal with in brazil is nothing compared to what they will soon face, thanks to a controversial decision by the International Soccer federation that many say may have more to do with corruption than competition. Now to the case of a wealthy google executive allegedly killed by a highclass call girl with a drug overdose. Now police are investigating whether she killed another man who died in a strikingly similar fashion. Abcs linzie janis has that. Reporter this morning, investigators on opposite sides of the country are looking into this woman, 26yearold alix tichelman, searching for evidence that she may have killed not one, but two men with fatal doses of heroin. Thats a felony, thats manslaughter. Reporter tichelman an alleged call girl is already behind bars facing manslaughter charges in the death of 51yearold forrest hayes, a google executive, who was found dead of a heroin overdose. Police said they found Surveillance Footage from his yacht which shows tichelman helping to inject himself and he experiences medical complications and passes out on the floor. Police say instead of calling 911 tichelman collects her things including the heroin and needles. She at one point stepped over the body to grab a glass of wine and finished the glass of wine. Reporter and now, investigators near atlanta are reexamining another case, wondering if tichelman might be responsible for the death of her exboyfriend, who died of an overdose, a deadly mix of heroin, oxycodone and alcohol just two months before hayes death. At the time it was ruled accidental. Were going to go back and look at it and make sure that everything that we determine to be correct almost a year ago is still factual and still accurate. Reporter back in california, tichelman is facing a flurry of charges in addition to manslaughter including destroying evidence. Tichelman has not yet entered a plea. Police say that after hayes death tichelman allegedly did online searches about how to defend herself legally after administering a lethal dose of heroin. All right. Thank you. All right now, George Clooney is not backing down his stand against one of the biggest newspapers in the world. The newspaper apologized in very public fashion and george did not accept. He is hollywood elite. Now in a leading role against a british tabloid. This morning George Clooney rejecting an apology from the daily mail after it published what he says is false information about his future inlaws and their religion calling the publication a detriment to its readers. In an oped published by usa today overnight clooney says the mail knew the story in question was false and printed it anyway. What separates this from all of the ridiculous things the mail makes up is that now by their own admission it can be proved a lie. George never used to talk about anything personal and now we have seen two hits in a matter of days and its because he must feel very strongly this time around. Reporter the tabloid wrote an article saying clooneys fiancee, amal alamuddins mother is opposed to their pending nuptials and is a member of a lebanese religious secretary called druze that they claim sometimes kills women who marry outside the religion. In his first usa today oped wednesday, clooney denied them calling them totally fabricating and criminal prompting an apology from the daily mail stating the story was supplied in good faith by a trusted journalist however we accept mr. Clooneys assurance that the story is inaccurate, but the sorry isnt cutting it for clooney, who wrote i thank the mail for its apology not that i would accept it but in doing so theyve exposed themselves as the worst kind of tabloid. I heard him yell my name and screaming my name then i noticed the boat turn and head off away from me completely gone then left totally alone out there in the water. Reporter larry steed told 911 operators he recovered the boat and dora was nowhere to found. I went back to where i thought we were and i cannot find her. Dora reporter you can hear his frantic search. Dora. Reporter but dora was gone. Sky was completely black, thundering, lightning, waves coming over my head. Just pouring in your face and the waves and tide coming against me. Reporter search teams were driven back by the chaotic scene. Thats the worst part was watching them all leave. Reporter then her salvation. I searched everything and i saw at this point a pvc pipe sticking up out of the water. I put mie legs around the pole and arms around the pole and just hung on to them. Reporter now, dora was so resourceful she actually used that storm to her benefit. She was worried about being dehydrated so she turned her mask upside down and used it as a cup and got rainwater and drank to avoid being dehydrated. She wants to go back in the water and scallop yet again. Her husband larry not so keen on the idea. How about that, collect the rainwater in her goggles.
