Theyve drained enough of the lake behind the dam so the damaged emergency spillway wouldnt be needed. Were continuing to make significant gains in removing water from the reservoir, which drops the Water Surface el further reducing the risk. People in the area are urged to remain vigilant and remain under an evacuation warning. Residents began heading home as soon as they heard the order lifted. Dan ward is in charge of this and other Major Projects at the utilities commission. He says new construction techniques slow the release of water in the event the dam reaches and overflows situation. And then it has a turn that allows the water to exit into the creek in such a manner theres minimal erosion that occurs as the water goes into the stream. Reporter sky 7 was overhead the 810 million project where a release of recent storm water is under way. The level of the reservoir is being kept below 40 during construction. Thousands of fremont residents would be in the path of a catastrophic breach. The water would flow into calavaras creek and then almeida creek which passes through fremont and drains into San Francisco bay. There is one priority. Ssary the goal at that point is to save the dam and not have the dam over topped and the spillway is there to protect the dam.
