About a thousand protesters were on the highway at one point. Reporter thats right. They promised here at the Police Department to shut it down. They did some damage here. Look at what weve got here this morning for the city to clean up. Red paint at the front door. No front door left. Glass busted out. It is now boarded up. And then they made their way to the freeway. We have to do something. We have to say something. We have to speak out. Reporter protesters over to interstate 880 at about 8 00 last night. They blocked interstate 880 in both directions right around broadway. They set off fireworks while they were on the freeway, climbed on top of big rigs that couldnt get through and were stuck, some protesters danced, listened to music, and then there were also some prayers. For everyone who feels were disrupting their status quo tonight, we say our status quo has been disrupted for 400 years. Reporter on the city streets, a few businesses were vandalized including a foot locker and a smart final. They had some broken windows that have been boarded up. Police made one arrest at that smart final. While there was a lot of damage done, graffiti throughout the downtown, the protest did not turn violent, and police tell us no one was hurt. In minnesota, authorities very well identified two officers accused of killing Philandro Castile. They are both on leave. Castile, the 32yearold black minnesota man, died of multimillion gunshot wounds. Jo a stanford law professor who called for the removal of a bay area judge is calling on you the voters to get that judge removed from office. Judge aaron persky has been widely criticized for giving a former Stanford University swimmer a sentence of six months for sexual assault. We talked with Michelle Landis dover who is leading the effort to have the judge removed. She wants it on the ballot next year. The voters will have the opportunity to weigh in on the question of whether judge persky has exhibited judicial bias to the point he cant be relied upon to rule fairly. She says the recall effort cant actually legally begin until april of next year. Persky will be up for reelection then. Bauber is expected to get the 80,000 signatures she needs. People reported they thought there had been a shooting. Officers eventually found an m80 firecracker on the fifth floor. The citys mayor and police chief confirmed a short time ago the man suspected of shooting and killing five Police Officers was killed by police. He told a Hostage Negotiator he was upset of the shooting of black men by white officers and said he wanted to kill white people. Live over the scene, the investigation very much still under way and the entire city center, the downtown area of dallas, is shut down. Seven other officers and two civilians are still recovering after being shot during last nights ambush. This is beyonce taking a moment of silence at concert she is currently performing in scotland. As she had this moment of silence youre watching right this, behind her all the names of the victims of Police Brutality appeared on her large screen. The pop star also posted this letter on her website. It says in part its up to us to take a stand and demand that they stop killing us. At this point, Dallas Police cant even say that they know how many people were involved in what appears to be a coordinated attack on their officers. Five officers dead, seven more who were injured, two civilians injured. You can see what appeared to be markers of the shooting all over the streets of Downtown Dallas this morning. We are getting new details of the fourhour standoff between San Francisco police and an armed man. Police say his family actually helped to end that situation peacefully on wednesday. Renata curvy the mans cousin. She and his nephew recorded messages that Hostage Negotiators played for the man. Officers subdued the man with beanbag shots and flash blanks, but no gunfire. They have not named the man but he is in critical condition. Curry says no one called her on the mans mother to tell them. They all had any phone number, okay. Talked to my phone to his mother. So why couldnt they call me and tell me . Curry tells abc7 news that her cousin is bipolar. She doesnt know how he got his hands on a gun. Time for ask finney. We are tracking whats happening in dallas this morning. A lot of new information just in the past hour. Lets go to abc7s Jessica Castro for the details. Heres what weve learned in the past few moments. Both the Dallas Police chief and the dallas mayor spoke out within the past hour saying a fourth suspect is dead and that police did kill him. Cops used a bomb robot to bomb out that fourth suspect in a standoff that ended only a few hours ago. Police told us what the suspect said during the standoff. Take a listen. The suspect said he was upset about black lives matter. He said he was upset about the recent Police Shootings. The suspect said he was upset at white people. The suspect stated he wanted to kill white people, especially white officers. The police chief also went on to say the suspect stated he was not affiliated with a group, worked alone, and that eventually police would find ieds in the area. They have not found any of those. Apart from that suspect, three other people are in police custody. And also new this morning, the number of victims has changed. 12 officers were shot and two civilians. Among those, five officers are dead. The dallas mayor also says most of those officers who were hospitalized have now been released. Earlier this morning the mayor also said there may still be other suspects out there, so they are operating this morning under that assumption. The investigation is now under way in the downtown area of dallas. Also new this morning president obama pledged federal aid. That happened overnight. So a lot of changing information coming out of dallas and the situation there still fluid, still a lot of cops in the downtown area. Back to you. Thank you, jessica. So far one of the fallen officers has been identified. We are showing you officer brent thompson. He served as an officer for d. A. R. T. Thats the dallas area rapid transit. Cnn reports that officer thompson got married to a fellow officer just two weeks ago. 43yearold is the first officer to die in the line of duty for d. A. R. T. Since the agency was founded in the 80s. Compared especially to what happened in dallas, last night things were actually fairly peace informal oakland. The one thing that really caused some trouble was the fact that as you can see hundreds of people walked onto interstate 880 in downtown oakland and they blocked all lanes of the freeway. That was for hours. Of course this in response to the Police Shootings of africanamerican men in minnesota and louisiana. Chp actually didnt get that freeway cleared until just after 1 00 this morning. We are learning that a caltrains sign board was set on fire during all this and also some other vandalism in the city. They are getting rid of the graffiti left behind after last nights protest here at the Oakland Police department. There were some antipolice messages left behind. This wall had a message on it. Its now clean. You can see the front door did have red paint on it. That paint has been cleaned. But the glass is still missing, but they did board up the wall. Crews telling me they want to get the graffiti while its fresh and easier to remove it. But they say it was a little rowdy here at the Police Department last night. This is where protesters gathered and made demands for police before they headed over police before they headed over to the freeway. Then they promised to shut it down, and they did. Marching to interstate 880 and blocking it in both directions. Traffic couldnt get through for five hours. Protesters danced, set off fireworks, climbed on top of blocked big rigs, and also said some prayers. We say to all the people that were with you. Some of us are faith leaders. We repent for in times past not standing with those most attacked and vulnerable in this city, and we say that a new day has come. Reporter heres a look at damage done to the city streets of oakland. Some businesses had their windows smashed out. Police say they made one arrest. There is graffiti with antipolice messages throughout downtown so, the city does have some cleaning up to do this morning, and that process is already under way. But the protests did not turn violent. No one was hurt, and it is quiet out here now, just cleanup crews getting rid of evidence of what happened last night. And the freeway is open. The order is in effect in san jose as well as seattle and houston. Law enforcement agencies across the country sending their condolences to dallas. San Francisco Police sent out this morning, expressing sympathy to those affected by the attack. Oakland pd said our thoughts and prayers go out to dallas pd and their families. New details about the two Police Shootings wednesday that prompted these protests. It left two black men dead in louisiana and minnesota. Last night there was another shooting in baton rouge. That injured three people. That shooting happened near the place where 37yearold alton sterling was killed. Police shot sterling while responding to a disturbance call about man with a gun. Later wednesday night 32yearold Philandro Castile was shot by police at a traffic stop. Castiles girlfriend in the car with her daughter strooefing live. Watch now as the governor apologizes to castiles girlfriend. I cant tell you how sorry i am for the terrible tragedy that has been forced on you and your family. I dont want you guys to be sorry. I want yall to be more careful. We want justice powerful exchange there. The fbi director says that that agency will likely get involved in that case. He says he accidentally used his gun instead of his taser. He served a year of his twoyear sentence. Palo alto police are investigating a suspicious death inside a home in the southern part of the city. A Family Member found the victim around 7 ha last night on creek side drive. They are not saying how the person died. Its a very safe town. Late last night detectives were waiting for a search warrant so they could go through the entire house. Inspector for the Alameda County d. A. Is out of a job this morning. Five Police Officers died after being shot by a sniper. That shooting broke out during what had been a peaceful black lives matter protest. Police killed the suspected sniper and before that he spoke to a Hostage Negotiator. The suspect stated he was not affiliated with any groups, and he stated that he did this alone. Much of Downtown Dallas remains sealed off at this hour. I do want to update you op other breaking news from the u. S. Capitol. The lockdown has been lifted. There was a shelter in place for a little while. That has been lifted a couple moments ago. Attorneys for the man accused of killing sierra lamar want the case moved to another county. She disappeared in 2012. Her body was never found despite a massive search effort. Prosecutors suspect Antolin Garcia torres killed her. His lawyers have filed for a change of venue because they say he cant receive a fair trial in santa clara county. More than 1,000 Wendys Restaurants across the nation have been hacked, several right in the bay area. Wendys said hackers obtained card numbers, names, expiration dates, and the security codes, all that dating back to december. Wendys is offering affected customers a year of free fraud and identity restorative services. The bay area locations affected include san bruno, redwood city, pittsburgh, antioch, fairfield, and san jose. There is an important jobs report that just came out. We did of course have that nice rebound after the very weak jobs report that we got during may, the Unemployment Rate at 4. 9 . The irs and police dont really take payment over the phone and itunes gift cards. That is the latest scam going around. As crazy as it sounds, some people are falling for it. If you or someone you know has sent itunes gift code cards to a scammer, let itunes know those cards are part of a fuad lent transaction. Snap chat doesnt do enough to warn teens and parents about sexual content on the app. Thats according to a lawsuit filed by mark geragos on behalf of a family. Officer thompson served as an officer for d. A. R. T. , dallas area rapid transit. The 43yearold is the first officer to die in the line of duty for d. A. R. T. Since the agency was founded in the 1980s. San Francisco Mayor ed lee has issued a statement on the dallas shooting saying we need to come together, have meaningful conversations about change, and Work Together towards peace. Number four, in oakland about a thousand people protested against recent Police Shootings across america. Marchers took their demonstration onto interstate 880 last night. About a thousand people blocked lanes for several hours. Both directions of 880 reopened around 1 00 a. M. This morning. And they did have a ban on the big rigs heading through there and big rigs are still not allowed through there even though the road is now completely open.
