Investigators believe a fire at a mosque in Riverside County was intentionally set. A person of interest was located and detaped. They have been involved in a Habitat Restoration project and thats one reason they received a good sum of money from a prominent environmental agency. Lyanne melendez explains. Take a beautiful canyon like Beacons Field in oakland, add some second gradeerts from Joaquin Miller elementary, and you have the makings of a great restoration project. We pulled 8 bags of evasive plants. This will help keep the creek healthy. Improving and maintaining the creek is also one of their duties. All through this canyon there are Habitat Restoration projects like this one. What the kids have done is something that could actually help protect the area during el nino. Weve been taking out Invasive Species and playing games to learn more about them. They replaced the Invasive Plant with native ones. Being at the top of the watershed you need the plants to kind of stabilize the areas because with the rains that are coming with el nino, a lot of the areas will be washing through and you need the plants. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration was so impressed that the agency awarded them more than 6,000 to be shared with three other east bay schools that are also helping to save our oceans because eventually everything ends up there.
