This doctor not only researches genomics, he sees it work in his family tree. He decide today ace hen geno sequenced. It shows that at least the genetic part originated from africa comes from west africa. It revealed a wide genetic variation, including african genes from slave populations in north and south america along with asian genes i am bedded in the indian population that came across the bearing strait many centuries ago. But he said those findings can affect your health. Its not what so much what your ancestry is, but its what it is with their particular genes. Stanford and ucsf launch a major study in mexico, sequencing the genos from hundreds of areas. They can process dozens of samples simultaneously. After that it will be ready for sequencing. What they found was surprising. Some groups from mexico are as different from each other as europeans are from asian. How much difference does one of the genes make . If you are an zest store of a particular gene and you are taking a particular drug that we use to treat children with seizure disorders you shall need to get tested because if you have that genetic marker, you could die. And this one who has multiple ms. What they did, they demonstrated on chromosome 1, if you inherited the european copy of this particular gene, you had a high risk of multiple sclerosis. Hes hoping the latest study will move people away from classifying them from race and instead using their genetic makeup to personalize diagnosis and treatment. What we are interested in is using genetics to help us. Abc7 news. And the ucsf believe some of the genetic differences noted to have an Immediate Impact on diagnosing conditions on mexican americans and difference necessary breathing capacity as it applies to lung disease.
