Reporter good afternoon, dan, it did double in size. But it was a estimate. Last night they were estimated 2200 acres and when the smoke cleared this morning they saw it burned much more. Behind me the Northeast Corner of the fire, the line where they want to keep. It the cold far as they call it has burned all of those acres, mostly brush. And they were fortunate because so far the winds have stayed down. It has been a long and hot 24 hours in the cattle lands of the yo lo county. And the action hot above as cal fire spent the day trying to keep the cold fire as they call it contained from people and structures. So far so good. I didnt think it would spread that fast. And then when it did . And when it did, i was shocked. Reporter it forced evacuations from home and campgrounds as soon as it broke out yesterday. One campground was empty this morning. No people, just traces of people, leaving in a hurry. Then we discovered it wasnt quite a ghost town. You could still see the smoke but they had the back five up the hill. Steve and his wife pauline never left. I want out of here, you dont know how badly. Must wife was pretty skittish. And she was wanting to leave. And i sort of talked her out of it. I cant go anywhere because he drives. Tbts they have the campground to themselves, out of harms way. Meantime the battle rages with boots on the ground and aircraft in the sky, a few ridgelines over. And as you look at the ridgelines, one is familiar territory for the men battling flames. This fire it burning in the same footprint as the monticello fire did two years ago. There is an advantage to that. The firefighters know the geography and in some cases they have cuts of the land made by bulldozers they could use today to fight that fire as it moves on. It has burned homes and threatened 2,000 others. A illegal campfire sparked the fire. The fire is now 72 square miles. The governor has declared a state of emergency. Right now there are eight major fires burning across california. Hot, dry temperatures often combined with winds have made Fire Fighting conditions very difficult at times. Dan and ama, right now were seeing hazy skies behind me and across the bay area because of both of those hires that wayne talked about and that you talked about, ama. Lets check out live doppler 7 hd and well look at how it looks right now. It is foggy along the coastline and the rest of you are seeing the sun. Now near the cold fire here are the conditions. At the lower elevations, 74 degrees with a south wind to 15. That is pushing that smoke up north. And then at the higher elevations, near the fire line, 90 degrees. So it is hot. Winds are very light. Radar is picking up some of that smoke from the fire. The next 24 hours we are expecting the temperature the wind trend to look like this. It gets breezy at 5 00 p. M. , about 17 mileperhour and then the winds will decrease but they will continue to drop off into the morning hours. Golden gate bridge camera showing you the fog that is lingering. Well go with the coastal fog in the 50s to mid70s tomorrow morning, over cast skies and drizzling and upper 40s to 50s and a cooler and breezy afternoon with low 60s to the mid80s. After that landing there was an explosion that left ten people hospitalized and one firefighter dead. Ray raimundi has the latest developments on this. Firefighters are working to keep the flames from spreading. The gas line was expected to be shut off at about 2 00 but crews are still working to shut it down. The death toll from yesterdays charter bus accident in Merced County was resized today to four victims. Yesterday authorities had said five people died. Officials released the identity of the four people who died. They are a 68yearold from california which is located on Catalina Island and 38yearold De Los Santos and a couple from mexico Fernandez Ramirez and a 64yearold and the ntsb is on scene investigating the crash. Was the driver fatigued . Was there a potential medical episode . Was there some type of distraction by a phone or some other means . The ntsb said it will be in Central California for the next five to seven days. The Highway Patrol is also investigating. The 29yearold driver of this nissan that plunged off a cliff along highway 9 in saratoga overnight turned himself into police after running away from the wreck. A woman who was a passenger in the car was killed. Another teenage girl was badly hurt. First responders thought the driver was ejected and used heatseeking cameras to search the area. The fire department, including our guys, did an extensive search of the area using floor cameras and we searched i mean, as far as we think a body could be projected out of the vehicle with no luck. At 8 30 this morning, the driver alex Eduardo Garcia surrendered to police and the Highway Patrol said he will be booked for felony hitandrun, vehicular manslaughter and driving without a license. And the suspected killer of a woman shot in austin, texas, over the weekend has been arrested in atlanta. The School Bus Driver was not the intended target of the accused gunman, the 24yearold. Mccray was arrested this morning in atlanta by the u. S. Marshal service. She was visiting her wifes family when she was killed on the austin famed sixth street and they believe the gunman was aiming at someone else. The department of education found he was the victim of discrimination because he was physically restrained nearly 100 times in just one school year. We tried to contact them but they are closed for the summer session. Ultimately, the federal agency found that it was the Oakland School district because they placed the boy there that was responsible for what happened to him. They were using it as a means of a timeout or something. Reporter stewart is 12 now but remembers well what happened three years ago when he was a student at Concord Center for education. They took me out of the classroom into a restraint room and held me down there. And an adult held you down . It was two, three or four. He has autism. When he was nine he was placed there by the Oakland School district. During the 11 months for the high functioning school for autism, stewart was physically restrained and held down face down on the floor 92 types for up to 90 minutes at a time. We do come back to them several times and say he is telling us it hurts. Bonnie told us she was deeply bothered by what was happening but at the same time put her trust in thein ova staff.
