The San Jose Fire Department rescues somebody at a golf course after they fell out of their cart and tumbled down a 50 foot embankment. It happened around 12 30 this afternoon. The Fire Department praised the teamwork by everybody at the scene. Officials havent released the condition of the injured golfer. Now to a story you saw first on abc 7 news. A wayward sea lion was captured in the marina district. It unfolded live today on the abc 7 morning news. And now were learning this isnt the first time this sea lion has played accidental tourist. Reporter Amy Hollyfield has more more. Reporter even tourists knew this guy couldnt be part of the sightseeing. Captured this video of a young sea lion on the streets of San Francisco. Someone who was visiting the city spotted him around 6 00 this morning and called for help. The sea lion decided to hide underneath a car at marina boulevard. Luckily we had the San FranciscoPolice Department had stopped traffic around him and was protecting him until we got there. Reporter when officials from the Marine Mammal center got on the scene at about 6 45 it took a few minutes to grab the little guy who tried to make a run for it. A woman with the center ended up grabbing him with her bare hands. Workers were disappointed when they then realized hes a repeat offender. Hes rescued in Santa Barbara county in february and brought up here for rehabilitation. He was here for nearly two months. Reporter and now hes back and lost about 20 pounds since he was last near. Hes part of a growing problem. Crews have already rescued more Marine Mammals so far than they did all last year. Elevated temperatures and the fish migrate farther away. Reporter they named him rubbish. He seems pretty happy here. It also looks like he never met a camera he didnt like. Making sure he posed just perfectly for us. But they do hope they can release him again and he will have a successful life in the ocean. It is heart wrenching to know that you put all this effort into rehabilitating them and gave them a chance out in the wild. Reporter theyre going to check him out today and see if they can rehabilitate him and return him to the ocean. But theyre always worried about the health of the center. Including faculty staff and students. There were also a couple of invited guests including the mayors. Mr. Abe took to the stage about 2 20 this afternoon joined by stanford president John Hennessey and former secretary of state george shultz. President hennessey used this opportunity to point out there were japanese nationals enrolled in stanfords very first class. Today there are 139 on campus including undergraduates and advanced degree students. The Prime Minister came here because hes trying to kick start the japanese economy and revitalize its tech center by learning from Silicon Valley. A big turnaround from the 70s when the u. S. This morning a parade marking the event was held in what is now known as ho chi minh city. It commemorates the end to the vietnam war and the United States involvement in southeast asia. A group of marines who were there that day returned to the city for a ceremony at the site of the old embassy. It was their job to get help and get the last americans out. The tiger is out. Which means the ambassador has left the building. However, some of the pilots interpreted that to mean that all of the marines were out the evacuation was over. This morning a memorial plaque was dedicated to two u. S. Marines left behind on april the 30th 1975. Baltimore police say theyve talked to every witness, gone over every detail. Findings of their investigation into what caused the spinal cord injury that led to freddie grays death in Police Custody now handed over to the attorneys office. Includes details that investigators were unaware of an extra stop made by the police van transporting gray. We have exhausted every lead at this point in time. That does not mean that the investigation is over. But none of the details are being made public. Sparking more frustration. There is a young man that has lost his life and we want to know why. Reporter the Washington Post reports a prisoner transported with gray after his arrest told them investigators gray was banging himself against the walls of the police van trying to hurt himself. Attorneys say they disagree with any implications he severed his own spinal cord. Baltimores mayor says she has not seen the report and again today pleaded for patience. Reporter well larry, the sheriff said he believes the gladiator style fights alleged to have taken place in county jail 4 were isolated incidents but the alleged ring leader has been stripped of his duties and is now in line to be fired. Weve arrived at the issue to terminate one of the deputies. Reporter believes that internal Affairs Investigation justifies the firing of deputy scott new. Two inmates said in march that new forced them to fight each other while deputies placed bets. According to marco remmy others involved no longer have contact with inmates. While investigations by the fbi and da continues. News Attorney Says his client may have committed some policy violations however, he says the fabulous tales of a Gladiator School concocted by these inmates is utter exaggeration. Could body cameras have helped sort out the truth . I think it could have been significant. Reporter it shows footage of his walk around city hall. He plans to buy 30 cameras for a Pilot Program. I believe that the national clamor where everybodys saying body cameras body cameras must also include prisons and jail. And its so thick with politics from the federal to the state to the local level that governor browns proposal is anything but clear either. Were grappling with a problem and people have different interests for wanting to say no. Reporter governor jerry brown attempts to control the faucet as he showed his new plan in oakland. Two efforts that at the outset appear to conflict. We have no choice but to engineer water works. Reporter tunnels with three intakes at the delta to divert water towards tracy is what brown deems necessary for the entire state. If we want a high quality of life for 39 Million People reporter water is a finite resource only exacerbated by the drought and Everyone Wants a drop. The bottom line is theyre trying to do a shuffle without having anything behind there to shuffle. Reporter opponents say water diversion will only further damage fisheries. But brown says realistic based on the budget. Were doing a hell of a lot. And that is to be applauded. Reporter but once the water ships out, opponents of the project fear it will be wasted. Sea lions on our streets may be a warning sign of things to come. Animal rescue workers were able to wrangle this guy this morning and take him to safety, but experts say it could be a worrisome trend. Wayne friedman is live at the Marine Mammals center to explain why. Reporter you hit it on the head. This is not a story about one sea lions. This is a story about a trend. And not a trend in local waters. Theyre saying this problem is global. Its a matter of expectations. Go to pier 39 wed be disappointed if we didnt see california sea lions. Theyre an attraction. But when one of them wanders into San Francisco and turns up on the street, the attraction becomes a distraction, a possible traffic hazard, and maybe a warning sign on a larger scale. Theyre telling us messages about the ocean and the environment they live in. Reporter a message about big problems. We may be seeing one symptom through a record season of distressed sea lion pups. The Marine Mammal center has treated more than a thousand of them in the first months of 2015. Thats more than they usually see in a full year. The sea lion captured this morning, a rare repeat customer. He even has a name. Rubbish. They figured that out when they saw his tag and went to his medical file. He was out for five weeks. So he was obviously able to find some food. Reporter records show rubbish lost 21 pounds in the five weeks since they released him. Hes another sea lion pup victimized by warming waters pushing the food supply out of reach. At this point experts have ceased calling it a seasonal weather trend
