Ended up rolling over here underneath an overpass. Weve got the sergeant from the chp with us here. Can you tell us exactly how did you how did you make this stop . I called the sheriff from the Dublin Area Office that they were in pursuit of a gold Nissan Pathfinder. Our units took over in the san jose area at the 101 area where we took primary with this vehicle. The vehicle had did not stop for a traffic violation, which the speed increased to 95 Miles Per Hour using the center median. The speeds this vehicle is traveling, we understand, close to 100 miles an hour at some points. At some point it did, yes. Reporter yes this was active freeway. He was passing cars all that time. We did utilize the air support unit to call out the primary for this pursuit. Traffic conditions and the speeds were highly take ep into consideration. Wanted to make sure the Public Safety as well as the safety of officers and the suspect drivers is taken into consideration as far as when you reporter no innocent drivers passing the scene were injured or had crashes because of the pursuit . No. Reporter tell me more about your visualization of what happened afterwards. The fact that the driver got out basically unharmed. Some cuts, i guess, and probably bad bruises. But not serious injuries. Correct. The vehicle obviously lost its front axle traveling here through the center median. It lost its axle and the vehicle spun around in a clockwise manner. At that point the officers conducted a felony stop. We took the suspect into custody without further incident. He was checked into the hospital for precautionary measures for his medical condition. This to make sure none of the cases has been tainted. Hes been meeting with District Attorney george gas cone who wants to go back as far as ten years. Hi dach i has already begun his review. Weve already identified. Just from the past 2 1 2 years. 120 cases involving two of the officers. We estimate that there will be as many as a thousand cases that will have to be reviewed. Public defender is asking for reforms in the Police Department following the offensive text messages. Released by the u. S. Attorneys office. They were made public during a bail hearing for former Police Officer ian ferm inger. He was convicted for public corruption. They were exchanged between several officers. All veteran cops. To illustrate his point that there is bias in the department adachi introduced a latino black 22yearold College Graduate who called police after his home was burglarized. The police accused us of drug dealing. And that was the reason they thought we were robbed. I felt like nobody was going to help us. Adachi created a Racial Justice committee which has been working on a tenpoint reform program. Members believe now is is the time to act. We welcome the opportunity that this crisis presents to begin a dialog with the Police Department to meet with the chief and even the rank and file. The Public Defenders Office is recommending more diversity training for patrol officers and stricter evaluations of their Field Training officers as well as this. We also believe that the San Francisco city should give incentives for Police Officers to live in those black and brown air ys in which they patrol. Well this afternoon a major Doctors Group is questioning the Gold Standard of heart evaluation evaluations. The stress tests. The group is saying the tests probably arent necessary and might be harmful. Mara schiavocampo explains why. The stropgly worded statement, a National Group of doctors says stress tests may be wasting your time and money. And possibly even putting you at risk. The American College of physicians saying stress tests are overprescribed in healthy patients saying its low value care because it does not improve patient outcomes. A lot of people are proactive and want to make sure that they nip Heart Disease in the bud. But unfortunately, these tests overestimate their accuracy. So this is where the problem comes in. The recommendation includes other common heart tests like ekgs and radioactive imaging. The acp warning these tests can even lead to potential harm. Like false positives which often lead to additional potentially costly followup tests and procedures carrying their own risks. Instead of these tests, the Group Recommends healthy patients with no symptoms of Heart Disease should instead focus on ways to improve heart health like quitting smoking, keeping their weight and cholesterol in check and exercise. Collecting the fees from new Ride Services like uber and lift has not been easy. San Francisco International has developed its own way to track passenger pickup fees. Reporter sergio kattan a joins us with more. That technology basically allows the airport to track those lifts and gps is embedded within the app that they use. The sfo says it this new technology is something called a gps geofence at midday we saw uber car after uber car. Each trip represents april 3. 80 passenger fee paid to the airport. Now, sfo has technology that helps collect that fee. Weve created a tracking system that allows us to keep tabs on any atbase transportation here at sfo. Doug says uber lift and sidecar recently signed agreements that allow their drivers to legally pick up passengers here. Until this new technology, the airport had to wait for the companies to report their ride data to collect the fee. Now, the Ride Companies will simply add this Technology Code to their apps allowing sfo to collect the ride data in real time. Cab drivers also pay an airport fee. Theyre issued a smart card. Get into the airport and getting out. We have to pay for each lift. 4. But this new Technology May be controversial for the taxi industry. In november several cabbies caused gridlock to protest legalizing there was hope it would be a temporary agreement but the new Technology May signal otherwise. The airport is now collecting passenger fees from uber and lift. Last september that was 550,000. This new sfodeveloped Technology May be worth more money money. As we were building it, we wouldnt be the only airport with the need for this type of information. That led us to look at licensing this. If airports follow sfos lead to make agreements with uber limit. And others sfo expects to collect about 350,000 in additional revenue over the next two years from licensing. Starting near fairfield in the north bay and south on i680 through the east bay until reaching san jose and back north on to 80 and in a crash in los altos. Very, very dramatic. The traffic is now back open in all four lanes. So the evening rush hour hopefully will not be bad. If you thought it was dramatic from what we showed you from sky 7 hd. You can only imagine what it was like on the ground. Take a look at this video. The driver of the Nissan Pathfinder was going at speeds up to 100 miles an hour as he raced down 680 in the east bay. The speeding suv must have startled drivers as he passed them. As he went down 680, the driver the police were in pursuit. They took the hov lanes on the grade. The divided lanes kept the bulk of drivers also going southbound on 680 out of harms way. Surprisingly, no vehicles were hit, no vehicles collided in the confusion of the pursuit. Now, as they were driving down towards san jose, they continued up to 80 where the freeways joined turning north up to peninsula. The pathfinder lost a couple of tires. That didnt stop the driver as the vehicle kept going on bare rims. The driver kept in the number one or fast lane as he left san jose towards Los Altos Hills using the shoulder at times to pass drivers in the hov lanes. As he approached or just past the foothill expressway exit and approached magdalena, the driver hit the media on the pathfinder and it rolled over several times eventually rolling back upright.
