Paper mache is the comet. Comets can travel up to 300 miles per second so everything is really hauling here. This is such amazing stuff we are even seeing celebrity tweets. William shatner saying simply hooray. He posted this youtube video. Good luck, rosetta and philaes going to land on, i am so excited. A lot of people are excited. This remarkable achievement is the latest step in a mission that actually began a decade ago and culminated with cheers and hugs in a control room in germany. This celebration went on for a few minutes but the crew quickly got to work Monitoring Communications from the robotic probe. Philae was launched by rosetta which has been circling the comets for week. Researchers believe the comet holds clues about the dawn of our solar system, maybe even life on earth. A time capsule telling us what were conditions like when the earth itself was just forming. Thats huge. Officials say the aircraft may have bounced once before coming to rest. Scientists hope to learn more about the composition of comets and exactly how they interact with the solar wind. Reporter astronomers were on hand to explain what was happening and answer questions. They described how revolutionary this is and how getting to explore a comet is like opening a time capsule, that it will help shed light on how the sun and the planets were created. Comets are perfect treasure trove of preserved information. They have not changed since the beginning of the formation of our solar system. Reporter there were some moments where people had their fingers crossed. There was word that the probe lost its thrusters so that just made the successful landing even sweeter.
