Live from the kgotv Broadcast Center this is abc7 news. On one side of the bay Police Continue to search for the gunman who fired on one of their own. While on the other, officers prepare to leave for a memorial to their colleagues in baton rouge. Good evening. Im eric thomas. In both cases the bottom line is officer safety. It is why local departments are on high alert. Abc7 News Reporter joins us live now with more on the story. Sergio . The officer who was fired upon last night in oakland has been released from the hospital. Unfortunately the person who fired at her is still on the loose. The radio calls from the Oakland Police officer who was shot at are startling. I just got shot at. I cant get out of the car. Witnesses describe a frantic scene after the officer crashed into another vehicle. And i can see people running toward the scene yelling hitandrun. Then you hear a gunshot. Police have not released details on exactly what happened. But the mayor describes an attack that is disturbing. This officer was involved in a collision and following that collision a person walked up to her car and began shooting into the police vehicle. Police tell us the gunman fired multiple shots at clark and then got away. We identified her based on her radio calls for help. She was not hit by gunfire, but she was rushed to Highland Hospital with unspecified nonlifethreatening injuries. Oakland officers were writing two per vehicle last few weeks, but Sergeant Clark was solo because she is a supervisor. It is something we maybe have to revisit. That still doesnt take away from the fact that this was a courtly attack on a Police Officer. It quickly raised concerns across the bay area. The San Francisco Police Dispatchers broadcast this message to those on the night patrol. There is no Single Person patrols. This comes as all departments are on heightened alert because of Police Officer murders in dallas and baton rouge. Three members of the south San Francisco Police Department flew there today for the funeral of the Baton Rouge Police man which is to be held tomorrow. It is tough times right now for Law Enforcement and it is a reminder to all of us that when we are out there doing our jobs. They deplore all violence against the police. But she said these attacks should not detract from recent scrutiny after multiple incidents across the country. Of police using deadly force against black men. Eric, back to you. German Officials Say the attacker blew himself up after being turned away from an outdoor Music Festival with around 2500 people in attendance. The man was a 27yearold syrian who had been denied asylum in germany. None of the injuries are considered lifethreatening. This attack comes two days after a deadly rampage at a munich mall that killed nine people. And an out of control wildfire in Los Angeles County exploded in size again today to 22,000 acres. The sand fire burning near Santa Clarita killed one person and burned 18 buildings. Some 1600 buildings are threatened. Fire crews urged people to take evacuation orders seriously. So we have very extreme fire behavior. I recognize for some of the citizens they have seen the fires before but these are not normal times. Parts of highway 14 are closed because of the fire. The commuter trains on the metro link system will not run because how close the fire is to some stations and tracks. And an out of control wildfire in Monterey County has grown to at least 16 square miles. Cal fire expanded mandatory evacuation orders to include palo colorado, rocky creek, old coast and bigsby creek roads. The blaze erupted and has burned 15 square miles. Firefighters say 1600 structures are threatened and it is just five contained. Abc7 meteorologist drew tuma is tracking the fires and what are the conditions like . Firefighters are getting help from Mother Nature at this hour. Conditions around the fire in Monterey County. We have Cool Temperatures and high relative humidity. They say they will wipe out green space thats widely used by families. Abc7 News Reporter lilian kim is live in pleasantons ponderosa neighborhood with the story. Lilian . Eric, the sign says police sen 10 pleasanton tennis and Community Park. But the emphasis will be on community and not tennis. Dozens of people who live near pleasanton tennis and Community Park came together for a neighborhood rally. They are angry they plan to rip up the green space to build two new Tennis Courts. I played football with my kid here. I played baseball with my kid here. I played pass with my kid here. Youre gonna take it away . Whats more . They say they were only notified about the project by a postcard. About the same time crews put up fences. They are building two Tennis Courts from the citizens. The park currently has 10 Tennis Courts. The new ones highlighted in yellow would make for a total of 12. Jerry thorn told us over the phone that the two new courts are part of the tennis master plan for decades. The neighbors say they were removed in a resolution 10 years later because a full Tennis Program could be offered without them. Police in the east bay city of newark turned the pokemon go craze to forge new relationships. Abc7 news was at Police Headquarters when the department lured pokemon go players by activating two poke stops there. Look at the crowd they drew. They publicized the event on facebook. Police say hundreds of players showed up to catch pokemon characters. Officers say it was a great opportunity to interact with people in a friendly setting. Christian garcia was working as a bouncer in a gainesville bar when he saw a man assaulting a woman behind the canteen gnaw where he was working. Garcia described what he saw when he confronted the 34yearold suspect and his 19yearold victim. I went back there and grabbed the guy by the shoulder and said get off of her. Get off of her.
