Abc7 news starts right now with live, breaking news. And it is happening on the peninsula where a night sailing on the bay ended with one person dead and two others hurt. Right now police are investigating. Good evening. I am carolyn johnson. Dan ashley is off tonight. Abc7 News Reporter alan wang is live in redwood city with the latest. We have watched police comb over this yacht called the bella and they say the mast snapped off during a regatta earlier this evening and killed a sailor on board. The bella was out at 6 45 and got too close to a channel marker and one of the guide wires caught on the marker. The u. S. Coast guard said the mast broke off and crashed down on top of the cree. There were five sailors killing one and injuring two others. A small boat was nearby and rescued the crew. A witness saw them coming into the dock at the port of redwood city and it is where they unloaded the body of the dead sailor. They were frantic. They were telling everybody because there were people coming in with other sailboats. There were people driving saying get out of the way, get out of the way the moment they went up the emts raced to the bottom of the dock and they immediately started administering help. Yacht club members say this was a casual weekly regatta they hold every wednesday. It is all for fun and the competition is very light. Yacht club members say they have never had a serious injury or fatality in the clubs 75year history. So far none of the dead or injured have been identified. Yacht club members tell us that these weekly regattas have been post postponed for the next two weeks. Reporting live from the port of redwood city, alan wopping, abc7 news alan wang, abc7 news. We are following breaking news on the Central Coast where solvang has been ordered. Hundreds of people were told to leave their homes. Solvang is between san luis San Luis Obispo and santa barbara. The bomb team is helping local Law Enforcement with this. A disturbing scene in berkeley earlier this morning. A young gerl girl naked and hysterical and screaming for help. They believe she may be the help of 6 trafficking. Cornell bernard has the story now from berkeley. Cornell . Carolyn, the young gerl girl remains hospitalized. She was found on piedmont. Neighbors say she was naked and she was calling for help. They are investigating how she got here, but they believe it is linked to human 6 trafficking. Sex trafficking. Help, help, i cant see. She woke to the screams of a teenage girl outside her home on piedmont avenue. The girl had been pepper sprayed. She couldnt see anything. We brought her a bottle of water. It was cold. It was 5 00 in the morning. She poured the whole thing on herself. She was completely naked. The girl said she was raped. Neighbors called 911. Piedmont she is a female and she was pepper sprayed and naked. The girl was taken to the hospital. Police believe she was the victim of human sex trafficking. Police say she may have been raped, robbed and kidnapped and then left in berkeley. The use of the pepper spray looks to me and sounds to me like a buyer that has decided that he is going to take advantage of a minor that he has found. Vanessa scott says the case sounds horribly familiar. She is the founder of love never fails, a nonprofit debt dedicated to helping victims of sex trafficking and the bay area is ground zero for the underground sex trade. In the past year we encountered 306 exploited women, men and children. In the bay area . In the bay area. I want to know what happened to her. I wish her all the best. Cadaver dogs got a hit today in the rubble of the weekend fire in san jose that destroyed a former television studio. Crews removed the rubble where the dogs reacted and then brought them back to the same spot. The dogs again indicated a body might be buried beneath that rubble. Heavy equipment will be brought in tomorrow to dig deeper. 55yearold stillman sepper was brought in and charminged in charged in connection with the fire. He will be charged if human remains are found there. Sphie fire investigators are looking for the cause of a fastmoving fire of a fire that took the life of a woman and her son. They flew over the fire this morning. Some residents jumped out of the windows on the second floor to reach safety. The victims are identified as 32yearold ease sister and her son, santana williams.
