Thousands of officers were in the area already to try to keep the new years crowd safe. Authorities tell abc news 19yearold Trevor Bickford traveled from maine and ran at the officers with a knife. One of the officers fired their gun, Hitting Bickford in the shoulder. The nypd shared this image of the weapon used in the attack. The incident sent panicked revellers running from the scene for security. Its being investigated as a possible terror incident. Due to the method of the attack and online postings allegedly made by the suspect. Investigators say the recent online posts are indicative of islamic radicalization. Unprovoked, a 19yearold male approached an officer and attempted to strike him over the head with a machete. The male then struck two additional officers in the head. Authorities saying this knife was used in the attack against the officers, one of them a rookie who graduated from the academy just a day earlier. Law enforcement sources identifying the 19yearold suspect as Trevor Bickford. The fbi is searching the suspects home in maine today as investigators are poring over writings that sources tell abc news indicate a recent radicalization. I want to be clear that the fbi through the joint Terrorism Task force is working very closely with them to determine the nature of this attack and we will run every lead to ground.
