satisfied that naso understands the dangers and pit falls of representing himself. naso requested all of the prosecution's evidence so he can build his defense. >> a german tourist whose wife was shot to death is praising the police for arresting 7 suspects. stefan schroer is not looking for vengeance but wants to see the killers convicted. his wife was killed in a cross fire of gang shooting in august. schroer returned to san francisco last week with his two sons and told us in an e-mail, it was clear to us many people have not forgotten the death of my wife. i hope all work to insure that it is not easy for teenagers to get access to weapons. >> the debate about tacers intensified today. two professors published a paper that questions the safety of tasers. it has to do with who pays the bill. it is all about the research or in cases, research about the research. for that reason dr. byron lee a cardiologist made headlines today. >> research is done by humans and they can be biased. >> when the research looks at tasers it is controversial. he looked at taser international studies. he found results come out favorably 75 percent more awn than independent studies. >> we have seen this with cigarette companies and we are seeing it again with the taser companies. dr. lee is a noted crittic - critic against the tasers. critics including the aclu are saying we told you so. >> what it makes clear, those who are trying to convince san francisco for a while now that tasers are save and a good idea are playing with a stacked deck. >> for years taser companies are disagreeing with the study. they say tasers are safe 97 percent of the time. most funded research goes through a conflict of interest center in minneapolis, minnesota. they are subject to independent peer review and funded by the united states department of justice. critics object to how and when police officers use tazers. in this case peter mcfar land won a judgment after the sheriff deputies wrongly the cockpit. flight 431 in miami landed in las vegas. american rebooked the passengers on to other airlines so they could finish their journey to sfo. mechanics took the boeing out of service as they tried to find out what caused the problem. this jet made a scheduled landding this morning. the airport believes that the boeing 800 freighter is the largest plane to land in san jose. the massive jet pipe this year. it should reveal the defects like the weak wield that contributed to the rupture in san bruno. >> i think it would have found the faulty well. >> it was never tested after being put in the ground. pg&e was not required to. pipes are similar to 132 and have incomplete test records. the pressure test that pg&e has planned should remove doubt about a rupture on those pipes. >> you can never say never, i really think it will increase the reliability of the system. >> keifner is the leading expert in the testing. he wrote the book on testing. >> the commissioner said the best and brightest are working to prevent another pipe line accident. pressure tests are the first step. >> it took a little while to get there. but i think mr. campbell from pg&e said, we don't expect any failures. that is the answer i wanted to hear. now, if they happen, that is not a bad thing, because we found the problem before it happened. >> pg&e is pressure testing 150 miles in 95 separate supervision, while both parents are working. >> spending time in front of the television and video games and not only it is affecting the academic achievement but their health. >> the oakland department wants to change that. they will provide a free summer camp. 600 volunteers helped to build sand boxs and painted the courts and helped to clean up the park owned by the city of oakland. >> alienate the political basis. >> here's the issue. government spending mostly on medicare and medicaid and social security, and the military is outpacing money coming in. every month the government borrows 125 billion on average. currently, the debt is at 14.2 trillion, and the government's debt ceiling is at 14.3 trillion. if congress doesn't agree thatto raise that ceiling, the government will run out of money. >> the government will have to shut down or default on the national debt or something and do something extreme. >> the director of uc berkeley for the policy finance said don't worry about the government defaulting on the national debt. the consequences of refusing to pay interest to china would be catastrophic. imagine what would happen if you quit paying on your credit card. the option will be a partial government shut down to cap spending. >> the closest example is from president clinton's confrontation with congress. the government did shut down, but it didn't last long because voters got angry. >> it ended when congress saw it was not turning out well for congress and so they got back to work. >> both sides are trying to do that now and they share a goal of trimming trillions from the national debt. but the president's plan called for a trillion in taxes. that is a nonstarter for the house republicans. that and slashing the budget is dead on arrival to the democrats. >> the advantage to the demdeps is the presidency- democrats because of the presidency. it depends on whether president obama will act and use it the way clinton did in '95 and '96. >> this week we got signals. payment of military salaris and retiree and social security payments and unemployment benefits and tax refunds, all could be stopped eliminated or delayed and a message to house
