is facing problems with the storm. they are trying to clear a landslide that has cut off residents. amy hollyfield joins us live from scotts valley. >> reporter: they are in a hurry but they have to take another time. they don't want to trigger another rock slide. take a look at what they are dealing with. the site is about 200 to 300 feet wide. one woman caught it on her iphone. it's blocking nelson road in scotts valley. they are able to walk around it but no cars can get around it and about 25 homes are blocked is creating quite an inconvenience. >> the county seems to think it will quite a while to clear the rubble. it's a mess. i've never seen anything like this in my life. >> reporter: no one was hurt in the slide. a county geologist will try to figure out how to handle this. they want november it before the next storm rolls in. they don't want to move things so quickly they create more sliding, 57 people live in those homes in that are now blocked by all that debris. they are hoping for a quick resolution to all. this all the roads in yosemite national park are closed this morning because of snow, ice, mudslides, downed trees and downed power lines. weekend storm dropped nearly four feet. nine inches of snow has fallen in el portal outside the park. several highways are also closed and officials don't know when they are going to reopen. >> testimony will be underway this morning in an east bay courtroom where two men are on trial for the murder of chauncey bailey. yousef bey is accused of ordering the hit. a third man, andre brous sard that he gunned bailey down on an oakland street but he claims he was under orders from bey. >> they say broi sard is lying. bey ordered the hits because bailey says he was writing a story on blam muslim bakery. >> the jury has been selected, opening statements begin in the barry bonds' trial. it's first chance to see how press will lay out their strategy to convict the home run king on perjury charges. >> reporter: opening statements this morning and then federal prosecutors are expected to call their first witnesses, barry bonds will be back in court yesterday. yesterday he watched his attorneys and prosecution select the jury that will determine his fate. she facing four federal counts of perjury and one count of obstruction. the jury includes eight men and four women. they include a nurse and two retirees. two of jury members are african-americans, both women. the defense team says race and gender don't matter. >> we have so many men, so many red haired people -- that is not how we're looking at this. we have a fair and impartial jury who were selected after an on open process. >> reporter: one potential juror who was in the courtroom but later dismissed he might be reluctant a great athlete like mr. bonds. another that was dismissed he feels like steroids is like cheating and not fair. witnesses include his former trainer, greg anderson. also bonds' former mistress and federal agent who uncovered the steroid scandal. this trial is expected to last about four weeks. jurors' names will be kept secret until after a verdict. santa clara city council has voted 5-2 to hand off $4 million in redevelopment money to the 49ers for the new stadium project. it's meant to take money from redevelopment agency and put it in private hands so the state can't take it back. according mercury news, santa clara council members approved the transfer despite getting dozens of e-mails urging them not to so. >> portola valley residents are being asked to look out to for a mountain lion. residents are asked to avoid hiking or jogging in the area at dawn or dusk. there have been more than a half a dozen sighting across the peninsula in the last few months. >> it is now 6:06 and bay bridge looks pretty dry. >> if you are a mountain lion, an umbrella would be a good idea today? families of u.s. military personnel stationed in japan are returning to the bay area this morning. just minutes from now, the first two of military flights carrying those evacuees is scheduled to land at travis air force base in fairfield. their return is voluntarily but more than 500 family members made the decision to come home after the earthquake and tsunami ravaged japan. their depart is your wise because it helps reduce the demand for food and water. >> for the first time since the quake tsunami hit california, part of the santa cruz harbor has now reopened. it is now safe for smaller of the main system. let's find out when the main system comes in. 7:00 this morning, still the chance of a shower or two but by 2:00, the rain steadier rain comes ashore. by 5:00 just in time for the evening commute. some of the heavier rain hangs around and there is about 6-7 hour any rain, it will keep raining and front passes. that is when it becomes more showery nature tomorrow and for out how to clean up a rock slide in santa cruz county without creating another. it trapped residents in two dozen homes in scotts valley. amy hollyfield is live near the scene with the latest. >> people here are somewhat used to rock slides but this had the largest one they've seen in a while. 200 foot wall of trees, dirt, dirt and rock came down. it happened across nelson road. there is about 200 to 300 foot long area of debris and 1 a 50 feet wide, wiped out a power line and cut off access to 25 homes. it's from the main road. people can walk around it but no cars are allowed in and out. the slide stunned residents. one woman was able to pull out her cell phone and capture it. >> anyone who was there, that is going down. it's going down in minutes. >> -- oh, my god. >> reporter: no one was hurt. now geologists will be out this morning, they have to figure out how they can move it out of way without causing another slide. they have a small window in which to work. 25 homes are being blocked right now. so you can imagine the 57 people who live would appreciate a speedy fix. they are not in physical danger but can't get in and out of their homes. just when can they expect more rain to complicate the situation. let's turn that question over to meteorologist mike nicco. >> that is a great question. you see that tree just riding a rock wave like it was a wave of water. we do have some light showers out there right now, the key is they are voo v light. it looks like it's going to be light around walnut creek and lafayette and american canyon and vallejo. everything looks really quiet but by 2:00, it's going to be a steady rain that is going to last about six or seven hours. not worried about flooding but the one thursday, the rain is going to be heavier and come down faster, that is when we may have more problems. first, let's turn it over to kristen for the news. >> coastguard says it may be another day before dozen boats swept out onto a beach are moved. 17 vessels brook loose in richardson bay. one boat started leak go fuel. a few were towed away quickly because of concern about further leaks. they are giving the owners time to get the vessels off the beach. >> classes are expected to finally resume at contra costa college in san pablo. officials have been forced to cancel all classes since last thursday because of a power outage. they say they suspected of attempting to kidnap a 14-year-old girl. it happened yesterday as the girl was walking into 100 block of arch street. a man drove his car into a driveway blocking the path. he opened the door and ordered her to get in. she refused and he drove off. the man is only described as a white man in his 40s with gray hair, a heavy set build, driving a gray four-door sedan, newer model with dry-cleaning hanging in the driver's side rear window. >> a new court ruling could keep the landmark climate change law from rolling out. a judge has blocked the law because of a controversy over cap and trade. that part of the measure allows some businesses pollute if they can buy credits from non-polluting businesses. state plans to appeal. >> time to check the weather forecast with mike. it's see how the showers are very limited, temperatures in the low to mid 40s inland and mid to upper 40s out to the coat. by noon, watch the rain start to move in from the coast and temperatures hitting the low to mid-50s. then by 4:00, we are all dealing with rain. it will be heavy at times but more of a kind of a light to moderate rain that will last for a long time and drop quarter to half an inch mid 40s around the monterey bay and inland to salinas and 40 in gilroy. highlights, steadier rain coming in this afternoon. we'll have showers tomorrow and another strong system will come in thursday. away. today we're talking about this low. one coming down, sitting in the bottom of this trough and it adds energy to it. allows it to grab more moisture and that is why we'll have heavier rain this afternoon and tonight. through 7:00 in the morning, some of the showers, then look at the 5:00, heavier steadier rain moving in time for the evening commute. about a six-hour window it will be that way. 11:00, front starts sweeping across the bay and then with the steady rain, it becomes more showery in nature. a small break through thursday morning and been by 6:00 thursday morning, thunderstorms will roll in. rainfall amounts very impressive everybody is in the green, at least an inch, possibly two inches around the bay and four inches in our mountains. that is why i'm worried
