>> david: storms tonight and tomorrow. we're tracking this along with that hurricane. rob, thank you. we're also learning tonight about an eighth possible credible sighting of that convicted murderer who escaped the chester county prison west of philadelphia. it was one week ago, that stunning move caught on surveillance, using his hands and his feet there to scale those two walls and that narrow passageway to get to the roof and break free. tonight, authorities say the family of the ex-girlfriend he murdered is now terrified and under 24-hour surveillance. abc's trevor ault on the ground in pennsylvania. >> reporter: tonight, authorities investigating the eighth credible sighting of convicted killer danelo cavalcante. >> we're using people on foot, we have horses out there as well that are assisting with the search, tactical teams. >> reporter: it's now been one week since this remarkable moment -- surveillance video showing cavalcante using his hands and feet to crabwalk up that yard wall at pennsylvania's chester county prison. and since then, despite being spotted almost every day, he continues to slip out of investigators' grasp, and frustration is mounting. coni betzendahl lives in the same area cavalcante was spotted tuesday. her neighbors called police. >> i just don't understand. they were here two minutes after they called, so -- >> reporter: still got away? >> still got away. >> reporter: she says she pointed search teams to some of the paths through the heavy woods. >> i mean, he could be sitting right under there, all day long, nobody would find him. >> reporter: police say today's sighting near botanical site longwood gardens indicates cavalcante has been traveling back and forth, and is still contained in a search area of 8 to 10 square miles. >> i believe he becomes more desperate. he's already murdered two people, one in brazil, and one here in a very brutal manner. he's a very dangerous individual, and he remains so. >> reporter: the reward for information leading to his capture is now at $20,000. >> we want to end this as quickly as possible. we'll throw every available resource at it to do it. >> reporter: david, cavalcante was sentenced to life in prison for murdering his ex-girlfriend and her family, some of them still live in this area, you mentioned they're under 24-hour police detail. authorities say they are so terrified, they're barricaded inside their home, not leaving until he's captured. david? >> david: just awful. trevor ault with us again tonight. trevor, thank you. meantime, another escape, this time in washington, d.c. the manhunt there for a homicide suspect who escaped from custody at george washington university hospital yesterday afternoon. christopher haynes, charged with homicide, had been taken there for medical care. police say he slipped away from the emergency room because officers failed to secure him to a gurney as they changed his handcuffs. later releasing this photo of how he was last seen, adding he got away with those handcuffs around just one wrist. now to the scare onboard a passenger jet that took off from raleigh, on its way to fort lauderdale. the bird strike. the jet losing an engine. and the emergency landing that followed. here's whit johnson tonight. >> reporter: tonight, scary moments onboard a southwest flight after the pilot radioed the tower, declaring an emergency just after takeoff. >> we had a bird strike and we lost the number one engine. >> southwest 1954, roger. you want to come back around to land? >> affirmative. >> reporter: southwest flight 1954 had just departed raleigh-durham international airport bound for fort lauderdale, 144 passengers and five crew onboard. the plane turning around and landing safely. thankfully, no one was hurt. >> this is the reason that airline pilots are trained so extensively and continuously, because you don't want to have any question about what to do in a situation like this. >> reporter: the faa says bird strikes and other wildlife aircraft emergencies are on the increase in the u.s. and around the world. in june, a red-tailed hawk denting the nose of this southwest plane as it prepared to land at hollywood burbank airport in los angeles county. that plane also landing safely. and david, the raleigh-durham airport has had 62 bird strike incidents over the past year. that's an average of more than five per month. the faa is now investigating this one. david? >> david: yeah, that's an extraordinary number. whit johnson, thanks, as always. tonight, the well-known actor danny masterson from "that '70s show" sentenced to 30 years to life in prison after his conviction on two counts of rape. his victims confronting him in the courtroom, and what they said. here's abc's zohreen shah from california tonight. >> reporter: tonight, the maximum penalty for danny masterson. a judge sentencing the actor to 30 years to life in prison for the rapes of two women two decades ago. what message does this sentencing send? >> i think it shows that there is justice. >> reporter: it was a stunning fall from grace for the one-time star of "that '70s show." >> i love camaros, zeppelin, and french fries, in that order. >> reporter: prosecutors painted a portrait of a predator who spiked the drinks of his two victims so he could rape them. the women and masterson were all members of the church of scientology at the time. jane doe one today saying through tears, "i wish i'd reported him sooner to the police." the women claimed the church harassed them after they reported the rapes, something the church has strongly denied. jane doe two today telling masterson, "you relish in hurting women. it is your addiction. it is without question your favorite thing to do." prosecutors today grateful for the testimony. >> i know these victims have been waiting a long time for this day. it's been a number of years getting here. they've been through a lot. >> reporter: the 47-year-old actor showed no emotion as he was sentenced. but his wife at times sobbing. actress bijou phillips, who has stood by masterson, waved to her husband as he blew her a kiss before being escorted from the courtroom. and david, the church of scientology denies ever harassing masterson's accusers. they say they have no policy discouraging members from reporting criminal conduct. instead, the church says its policy demands that scientologists abide by all laws of the land. david? >> david: zohreen shah in california tonight. zohreen, thank you. from washington, d.c. late today, the guilty verdict. former president trump's senior white house aide peter navarro found guilty of contempt of congress. here's our chief justice correspondent pierre thomas now. >> reporter: tonight, a jury convicting former senior trump white house aide peter navarro of criminal contempt of congress for defying a subpoena from the january 6th committee. moments after the verdict, navarro outside of the courthouse, defiant. >> i said from the beginning, this is going to the supreme court. i said from the beginning, i am willing to go to prison to settle this issue. >> reporter: in the days leading up to the january 6th riot, navarro became a fixture on tv, spreading lies about the election. the committee wanted to know how that message may have inflamed trump supporters. but navarro refused to cooperate, saying former president trump had told him not to. the judge in this case determined there was no proof trump ever invoked executive privilege for navarro. and now he becomes the second ally of the former president convicted of criminal contempt of congress, following in the footsteps of trump's former top political adviser, steve bannon. when he's sentenced in january, navarro faces a maximum of up to two years in prison, and fines up to $200,000. he said today he will appeal his conviction. david?
