Story. Its a case where the state governments rule makers. Were the rule breakers. Because of a whistle blowers tip, the state Auditors Office looked into the department of administrative services. Thats the state agency that manages government operations. What the audit found is that a former top attorney in the Branstad Administration was not qualified for the position that he was in. And was paid 22thousand dollars more than he should have been. Attorney ryan lamb left his job last year after a scandal involving secret settlements paid to former state employees. Essentially, hush money was given to employees with grievances. The auditors report shows lamb was paid for the nearly four months was serving in the Army Reserves as a lawyer. Even though he should have only been paid for 30days. There was no notice of a military leave in the persons employee file. That led to us questioning the rest of the time sheets for this particular individual. And lambs time sheets, according to the state auditor, were fudged. In this case at the time of employment the employee had only signed off on one time sheet. The rest of the time sheets were signed off by an individual that had duel control. The state requires the employee and supervisor to sign off on the time sheets. Finally, the audit found lamb had no resume on file. Thats what caused us to look a we discovered that the experience requirements for this particular position, attorney three, you need to have five years of experience and since he had only been licensed for a little over three years there was no way you could have that five years of experience. Theyre no longer employed by the state of iowa. What they had done is inappropriate and we just have full confidence that moving forward we arent going to have the issues that we had with the department of administrative services. This is definitely a unique situation but since it came to our attention we did have to report on it. Unique in that they make the rules and rules . Right. Quite right, yeah. The Attorney Generals Office tells us they just received a copy of the report, so its too soon to say what action, if any, will be taken. We did reach out to lamb. He did not respond to our request for a comment. The state of iowa will award nearly five Million Dollars to kraft heinz. For a new davenport plant. But its worrisome to the workers at the current plant. The incentives include a Million Dollar tax refund. And a three Million Dollar forgivable loan paid after the current factory is demolished. About 14hundred people work there right now. But the new facility. Will only employ about 500 people. We were able to get a state of the art facility. Non if us really know what that means at the end of the day for jobs, what we do is theyre going to have a presence in the future here. Debi durham says kraft heinz was looking at another state in which to build the plant. With a fraction of a Jobs Available at the new facility, workers at the current plant face an uncertain future. It could take more than a year before the plant closes. But some workers are getting ready now. That includes looking for other jobs. And getting a resume together. Job counselors will likely be at the plant in coming months, but the experts advise starting now with the job search.
